Glenn Jacobs Re-Elected As Mayor Of Knox County

WWE Hall of Famer Glenn Jacobs, AKA Kane, will remain mayor of Knox County, Tennessee for another four years.

Jacobs, a Republican, defeated Democratic nominee Debbie Helsley in the mayoral race Thursday night. According to The Knoxville News Sentinel, Jacobs led the unofficial vote tally by more than 4,400 votes when 63 percent of the nearly 43,000 votes were counted at 10 p.m. local time. The margin was reportedly enough to project Jacobs as the winner. The wrestling legend celebrated his victory with fellow GOP attendees at a watch party in downtown Knoxville, per his social media feeds.

“It has been the honor of my lifetime to serve as mayor for the past four years, and I am just so grateful that you have trusted me to work hard to keep our economy strong and to protect our freedoms and our way of life,” Jacobs said of his victory [H/T The Knoxville News Sentinel].

In his press conference, Jacobs appreciated the other candidates who ran in the mayoral race.

“In this day and age, as contentious as politics is, we should respect anyone who is willing to put their name on the ballot,” Jacobs stressed. “I promise you, and I don’t make many promises because they’re hard to keep. But I do promise you that I will continue to work hard every day for the brightest future possible for our Knox County.”

Jacobs was last seen on WWE TV at last weekend’s SummerSlam premium live event, appearing in a brief segment to announce the attendance of 48,449 for the show at Nissan Stadium in Nashville, TN. Earlier this year, Kane faced a lot of backlash on social media for his reaction to the United States Supreme Court overturning Roe v. Wade – the court’s landmark 1973 judgment that made abortion a constitutional right. A plethora of wrestlers from across promotions called out Jacobs for his comments.

The Undertaker Reveals Kane’s WWE Hall Of Fame Induction

Veteran WWE Superstar Kane will be going into the WWE Hall of Fame this year.

Kane appeared on WWE’s The Bump this morning and was surprised by The Undertaker with the announcement. You can see video from the appearance below.

Kane joins Khali, Molly Holly and Eric Bischoff as confirmed names for the 2021 WWE Hall of Fame Class. Rob Van Dam is also expected to be announced by WWE soon.

Kane, who has been with WWE since 1995, has not wrestled for the company since a surprise appearance in the 2021 Royal Rumble Match this past January. Before that his last match was a WWE 24/7 Title change with current champion R-Truth at the September 16, 2019 RAW in Knoxville. His last regular match was teaming with The Undertaker for a loss to WWE Hall of Famers Shawn Michaels and Triple H at Crown Jewel 2018. Earlier this week he announced his re-election campaign for Mayor of Knox County, Tennessee.

The 2020 and 2021 WWE Hall of Fame induction ceremonies will air on Tuesday, April 6 during WrestleMania 37 Week, via Peacock and the WWE Network. The 2020 Class features JBL, The Bella Twins, Jushin Thunder Liger, “The British Bulldog” Davey Boy Smith, and the nWo (Hulk Hogan, Scott Hall, Kevin Nash, Sean Waltman).

Kane to be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame Class of 2021

Kane is the latest inductee in the WWE Hall of Fame’s Class of 2021. The Big Red Monster was surprised with the news by his brother, The Undertaker, during WWE’s The Bump.

The Devil’s Favorite Demon will be enshrined in the hallowed hall during the 2021 WWE Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony on Tuesday, April 6, streaming exclusively on Peacock in the United States and WWE Network elsewhere.

Kane’s legendary career was intertwined with The Deadman’s from the very beginning. Long thought to have perished in a fire at their family’s funeral home, Kane emerged through hellfire and brimstone to haunt his brother in Fall 1997, infamously tearing the door off Hell in a Cell to confront Undertaker and begin one of WWE’s most truly heated rivalries.

To settle their score, The Big Red Monster and The Phenom clashed in every conceivable type of match. They battled surrounded by flames in the first-ever Inferno Match, were locked inside Hell in a Cell and even tried to bury each other alive. It’s surprising that they were ever able to get along, but they did, proving to be one of WWE’s most deadly tag teams. The Brothers of Destruction wreaked havoc on WWE, capturing the World Tag Team Titles and the WCW Tag Team Titles.

Kane has also embraced the lighter side of things in WWE, as best evidenced by his time as a member of Team Hell No with Daniel Bryan. The pair’s sojourn to anger management classes had WWE fans rolling on the floor in laughter, as did their infamous attempt to “hug it out” in the middle of the ring. Warm embraces aside, the duo was also a threat in the ring and captured the WWE Tag Team Titles.

When not part of a tag team, Kane also proved to be one of the most dominant Superstars in history. The Devil’s Favorite Demon captured the WWE Championship, World Heavyweight Championship, ECW Title, Intercontinental Title and won the 2010 Money in the Bank Ladder Match. Anyone with a resume like that is destined for the WWE Hall of Fame.

Don’t miss Kane take his place in sports-entertainment history during the 2021 WWE Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony, Tuesday, April 6, streaming exclusively on Peacock in the United States and WWE Network elsewhere. The ceremony will feature the enshrinement of the 2020 Class, featuring The nWo, The Bella Twins, JBL, British Bulldog and Jushin “Thunder” Liger, as well as the 2021 Class, which includes Kane, Molly Holly and Eric Bischoff.

Mayor ‘Kane’ Chokeslams Man Through Table During Symposium

Knox County Mayor Glenn Jacobs busted out the iconic mask and signature move of his WWE character, Kane, during an event this week.

Jacobs, a Republican who was elected as mayor of the Tennessee county in 2018, delivered the opening remarks at the National Association of Sports Commissions Symposium at the Knoxville Convention Center Tuesday, according to the Knoxville News Sentinel.

As Jacobs welcomed the crowd and spoke about Knox County, he was interrupted by a man dressed as an event staffer.

“You know who I am, right?” Jacobs said as the man tried to get him off the stage. “Yeah, I’m mayor, but that’s not all.”

Suddenly, the lights turned red and Kane’s WWE theme music began playing.

Jacobs donned his Kane mask and proceeded to chokeslam the man through a nearby table.

“So, as I was saying,” Jacobs said to conclude the humorous skit. “Welcome to Knox County. I hope you have a wonderful time, and I expect to see you back here very soon…or else.”

Jacobs made his last appearance in WWE in November 2018, losing a tag team match alongside his storyline brother, The Undertaker, to D-Generation X. In a video published by WWE in April, Jacobs said he would not rule out a return to the squared circle.

The Undertaker and Kane take out Triple H and Shawn Michaels on RAW (Video)

Shawn Michaels was on RAW to talk about the Triple H vs. The Undertaker match this Saturday in Australia at WWE Super Show-Down.

Excerpt courtesy of WrestleView‘s Mike Tedesco’s RAW recap:

Michaels has the utmost respect for The Undertaker, but any day of the week and twice on Sunday he’d pick his best friend over anybody on God’s green earth. That upset The Undertaker. Undertaker made this personal. Undertaker has Kane in his corner, so Triple H has his brother in his corner. Michaels warns Kane about crowding the ring. If he does, he’ll be brushed back with some Sweet Chin Music.

Kane’s music hits, and the Mayor of Knoxville County appears behind Michaels in the ring. Michaels turns around, and Kane uppercuts him down.

The bell tolls, and Undertaker appears standing in the ring next to Kane! The crowd is going crazy. Undertaker stands over Michaels and signals for the end. Undertaker lifts him up for a Tombstone Piledriver, but Triple H’s music hits! Triple H comes down and punches away at Undertaker. Kane grabs Triple H, but he punches him back. Triple H goes back to punching Undertaker, but Kane grabs him by the throat. Triple H attacks, so Undertaker grabs him. Undertaker hits a Chokeslam on Triple H while Kane hits one on Shawn Michaels (who has a shaved head!). Undertaker and Kane stand tall in the ring before stopping when Triple H comes to. Undertaker then lays him out with a Tombstone Piledriver! Undertaker and Kane then walk up the ramp and pose.

kane wins mayor knox county

Glenn Jacobs is better known to WWE fans as Kane, but the citizens of Knox County, Tennessee will know him as Mayor.

Yesterday’s election for next Mayor of Knox County, Tennessee turned out in Jacob’s favor when he pulled in 66.56% of the vote. Early and absentee voting showed Jacobs leading over Democrat Linda Haney by a 2-1 margin. When all was said and done 22,595 citizens cast their vote for Kane.

Jacobs announced his intentions to run for Mayor of Knox County Tennessee as a Republican in April 2017. He won the Republican primary election on May 2nd this year by only 23 votes and was expected to win the general election due to Knoxville’s historically Republican population.

Kane said he could live anywhere he wanted to, but he decided to stay in Knox County, Tennessee. His campaign focused on committing to keep taxes low, a renewed focus on the quality of education, and attracting new jobs to the area.

“In my primary, I only won by 23 votes in that one, so every vote really does count and I want to make sure I get as many as I possibly can,” Jacobs told WATE 6. “Since May, we’ve been knocking on doors, continuing that. We’ve also continued the process of meeting with department heads, school board, county commissioners, that kind of thing.”

Jacobs has operated Jacobs Insurance Associates in Knox County, Tennessee for a number of years while performing as a WWE Superstar.

Kane Receives Criticism For Still Wrestling While Running For Mayor

In March of 2017, Glenn “Kane” Jacobs announced that he was running for Mayor of Knox County, Tennessee. For the past two years, the 51-year-old Kane has been transitioning out of his near 25-year wrestling career into a career in politics.

During his campaign, Kane has made sporadic appearances for WWE, including attacking Roman Reigns during his steel cage match against Braun Strowman last October, commencing feuds against Braun Strowman and Finn Balor, and competing against Strowman and Brock Lesnar at this year’s Royal Rumble for the Universal Championship. He was also a part of the Andre the Giant Battle Royal on the Kickoff Show of WrestleMania 34 in April.

In May, Kane’s campaign led him to successfully winning (by a margin of just 17 votes) the Republican primary for mayor of Knox County, Tennessee. En route to the election in August, Kane made another WWE return by moving to SmackDown Live and reforming his Team Hell No partnership with Daniel Bryan.

While WWE fans were very receptive of Kane returning, his political opposition, Democratic candidate Linda Haney, felt that it was not a good strategy in hopes to become mayor.

“I was really stunned to find out he was still pursuing it,” Haney stated, according to the Knoxville News Sentinel. “I thought it was in the past. I thought in this crucial time he’d want to be here and be with the people. Being an entertainer doesn’t make you a political figure. It may get you some votes, but I believe people want someone with common sense and who is [ready to lead].”

Speaking to Newsweek, Kane defended his decision to resume his career as a professional wrestler.

“After I am elected mayor, I’ll be mayor,” said Jacobs. “I’m sure some people will say that (I’m not focused) and some others will say that’s the coolest thing ever. Again, you can’t make everyone happy. You just do what you can and that’s it… you’re always going to catch criticism no matter what you do.

“I may still do a few special things [in wrestling, if elected]. I’ve done it for 23 years now and have quite a history, it’ll always be part of my life. I think the question is if I am taking [running] seriously, and of course I am. I wouldn’t [be running] if not.”

At Extreme Rules, Kane will have an opportunity to add the SmackDown Live Tag Team Championships to his long list of WWE titles, as he and Daniel Bryan will be competing against The Bludgeon Brothers.

Team Hell No Reunited On SmackDown Live (Video)

Last night on WWE SmackDown Live as Daniel Bryan was getting beat down by The Bludgeon Brothers, Kane made his return to SmackDown coming to Bryan’s rescue. After some encouragement from fans with a YES! chant they hugged it out. Paige then announced that Kane and Bryan will face The Bludgeon Brothers for the SmackDown Tag Team Titles at Extreme Rules on July 15th. Team Hell No is officially back together.

Kane Hasn’t Ruled Out Wrestling As Mayor If Elected

During an exclusive interview with Pro Wrestling Sheet, Kane — real name Glenn Jacobs — indicated he’s not done in a WWE ring … even if he’s an active mayor!

“I never rule anything out,” Jacobs said after chuckling over the idea of “Mayor Kane” competing. “I think it would be great to have a PPV here in Knoxville. We haven’t had one in forever. If there’s a PPV, it would be an honor for me to take part in that.”

We haven’t seen Jacobs in a WWE ring since Wrestlemania. He was originally scheduled to compete at the Greatest Royal Rumble — just four days before the GOP mayoral primary. Despite rumors to the contrary, Jacobs says the reason he was pulled from the card wasn’t political but rather a slight injury.

Just days later, he’d win his primary race by a mere 23 votes. Knox County leans red, which means he’s the clear front runner in August’s general election.

Yes, folks — that means The Big Red Machine will most likely be a mayor.

Jacobs says he’s developed his leadership style learning from those around his during his 21-year run as Kane. He specifically points to his storyline brother.

“The most important thing about leadership is to set an example. Undertaker — talk about learning how to be a professional,” Jacobs said. ” This guy is always there, always worked hard, took a lot of pride in what he does.”

Naturally, Jacobs also noted learning from Vince and Linda McMahon. He praised the couple for their vision, turning ideas and concepts into reality. Jacobs says transforming a family-run, regional business into a socially-accepted global empire gave him a platform to lead the county he loves.

At one point, society looked down on wrestling. His election proves that’s changing.

“I don’t think that the wrestling thing is what it once was,” Jacobs said. “We’ve had some people that have been so successful like Dwayne [Johnson] and John Cena doing all the stuff that he’s doing that perception is changing and rightfully so.”

Jacobs says many see his hall of fame career for what it is — two decades as an accomplished business man and ambassador for the WWE. Even so, he met some people along the campaign trail who looked at him as “just a wrestler.”  The 3-time world champ took great pride in the election results proving doubters wrong.

“That gives me a lot of satisfaction,” Jacobs said. “Hopefully, I’ve done my little bit to destroy that unfortunate stereotype.”
