Jake “The Snake” Roberts Undergoes Successful Heart Surgery

Wrestling legend Jake “The Snake” Roberts is on the mend after undergoing successful heart ablation surgery—and if all goes well, he could be back on the road with fans before the month is out.

The WWE Hall of Famer and current AEW personality had the procedure on May 13 to address an irregular heartbeat. Roberts, who also manages chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), discovered the arrhythmia earlier this year while hospitalized for pneumonia. He first mentioned the issue on a February episode of his podcast The Snake Pit, saying:

“I got a problem with my ticker. But by going in, I caught it, and we got to go have a couple of procedures done, and it’ll be all hunky dory then.”

The heart ablation procedure—commonly used to correct arrhythmias by targeting problematic heart tissue—appears to have gone smoothly. His wife, Cheryl Roberts, shared the good news via Instagram shortly after the surgery, noting that Jake was already making strong progress and expected to be discharged soon. She added that following a week of recovery, Roberts plans to resume traveling and appearances.

Jake himself later chimed in with his own post-op update, letting fans know he’s doing well and eager to get back out there. His next scheduled appearance is at Iron City Comic Con in Birmingham, Alabama on May 31 and June 1, and all signs point to Roberts being ready to go for the event.

It’s nothing short of remarkable given Roberts’ past health battles and storied personal journey, and even more so considering he turns 70 later this month. As always, “The Snake” continues to prove he’s one of the toughest icons in wrestling history.

Jake Roberts Reveals Ricky Steamboat Is Not In Great Health Right Now

Jake “The Snake” Roberts has revealed that Ricky Steamboat isn’t doing so well, claiming the 69-year-old is having health issues at the moment.

Roberts was speaking on the latest episode of the DDP Snake Pit podcast when he discussed the infamous incident that saw him hit Steamboat with a DDT on concrete in 1986. He went on to disclose that Steamboat is having trouble with his health but did not provide further details.

“To be quite honest with you, I know Steamboat’s having issues right now,” he was quoted as saying by Wrestling Inc. “I hope to hell it wasn’t what I did. I really do man, because that haunts me. That’s beginning to haunt me a lot. Ricky, if you’re listening, you know I never meant to do that. I didn’t want to do that. I begged you not to do that. I just pray for you man. He’s a good dude man.”

Steamboat had to be hospitalized 12 years ago following an injury angle in which he was assaulted by The Nexus during an episode of Monday Night Raw. He was reported to have suffered from brain bleeding after a capillary burst.

He made an appearance for MLW recently, showing up at their SuperFight event in Charlotte in February.

A decorated wrestler with promotions such as WCW and Jim Crockett Productions, Steamboat was a one-time Intercontinental Champion with WWE. He was inducted into the latter’s Hall of Fame in 2009.

Steamboat has worked as a trainer with NXT and was also part of the talent relations department alongside Triple H until 2013, when his son Richie Steamboat was released. He transitioned to an ambassador later.

Lance Archer Arrives In AEW As Client Of Jake “The Snake” Roberts

Lance Archer made his AEW debut Wednesday night as the client of Jake “The Snake” Roberts.

It all went down during the opening match on Dynamite when Archer and Roberts walked out as Cody wrestled against Ortiz.

The duo then sat in the front row and watched on as the two wrestlers went at it in the ring. Archer teased jumping over the railing at one point in the match, but Jake stopped him from doing it and they instead left before the match was over.

The former WWE, Impact and NJPW wrestler’s signing was announced by All Elite Wrestling last month.

Jake “The Snake” Roberts Appears On Dynamite, Teases Client Coming To AEW (VIDEO)

Cody Rhodes appeared on AEW Dynamite last night to call out MJF for cheating in their match at Revolution, but Jake “The Snake” answered his call instead by walking to the ring.

“The Dark Side” will apparently be coming to AEW soon with Jake “The Snake” Roberts, and it sounds like they’ll be targeting Cody Rhodes first.

Roberts said he hated to spoil the party, but he was tired of hearing Cody’s crying/bitching. Jake then explained that he wasn’t there to praise Rhodes, he was there to slay him … and mentioned having a client. “The Dark Side will be coming to AEW,” Roberts added. “And once my roots have taken hold it will be like a phoenix rising from the ashes.”

Jake also noted that he’d be on the outside of the ring for his client’s matches, and that Cody could bring “that one trick pony” Arn Anderson.

Earlier this month, there was an incident between WWE Hall of Famer Jake Roberts and New Japan Pro Wrestling star Harry Smith (aka Davey Boy Smith Jr.) at WrestleCon in New Orleans. The two exchanged words and Smith threw a hot cup of coffee in Jake’s face. Security quickly cleared the area and police were called, but Smith left the building before police could speak with him.

According to F4WOnline, it now looks like Roberts will be dropping charges against Smith after the two spoke on the phone, which was set up by Bret Hart.

Smith wasn’t happy about things Roberts had said about his Father, Davey Boy Smith (aka The British Bulldog), during a podcast with Roddy Piper.

Both apologized privately, but Smith also apologized publicly earlier today.

TMZ.com is reporting that Davey Boy Smith Jr. (former WWE star DH Smith), the son of WWE legend the British Bulldog, is now wanted for battery by New Orleans police following an incident with WWE Hall of Famer Jake “The Snake” Roberts over WrestleMania 34 weekend.

According to the TMZ report, Smith reportedly threw coffee in the face of Roberts and the New Orleans Police Department is now investigating the allegations.

Pro Wrestling Sheet is reporting that Smith is now “wanted for battery in connection with this incident”, an incident Smith reportedly admitted to openly.

A rep for the New Orleans Police Department told Pro Wrestling Sheet:

The NOPD is investigating a simple battery incident that occurred on April 7, 2018 in the 500 block of Canal Street. The victim told police that at about 11 a.m., he was signing autographs at the location when he was approached by a known subject, later identified as Harry Smith (DOB: 08-02-1985). The victim told police he attempted to shake hands with Smith, at which time a verbal argument ensued. Smith then allegedly threw a cup of coffee at the victim’s face and fled the scene. No major injuries were reported by the victim.

Roberts informed police Smith threw coffee at him, with Smith saying that Roberts refused to apologize for negative comments he had made about his father, the British Bulldog (who passed away in May of 2002) and refused to step outside to settle their differences in a fight. Smith says Jake told him to “f*ck off” at that point, so he threw coffee in his face.

The penalty for a simple battery in Louisiana can be up to 6 months in jail and/or a fine of up to $1000.

WWE Hall of Famer Jake “The Snake” Roberts recently spoke Joshua Maloni of Niagara Frontier Publications to promote his weekend appearance at the Niagara Falls Comic Con. The full interview is at this link.

Inventing the DDT:

Yeah, it was an accident. I was in the ring wrestling. I had a front facelock on a guy. He stepped on my feet and we fell backwards. He went on his head. I went on my back. And the fans went “OOOOHH.” I went, “Wait a minute; I’ve got something here.” And I started working on it, and come with it, and named it after the poison that everybody outlawed. I picked up the paper one day, and the front page was “DDT outlawed.” I was like, “Wait a minute. Very cool.” They had … “DDT poison to the brain.” I said, “Way cool.”
