Sheamus Reportedly Out With A Concussion, Update On Daniel Bryan’s Status After WrestleMania Loss

Sheamus is currently dealing with a concussion, according to the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter. It’s believed to have happened during The New Day vs. Sheamus, Cesaro, and Drew McIntyre on the post-WrestleMania 35 SmackDown Live last week. He also wrestled on RAW the night before, teaming with Cesaro for a loss to Kofi and WWE Universal Champion Seth Rollins.

If that’s the case, both he and Big E were injured during the same match. For Big E, he suffered a torn meniscus that required surgery.

Sheamus did not appear on either of this week’s Superstar Shake-Up editions of RAW and SmackDown. The concussion would explain his absence from the SmackDown main event where Cesaro teamed up with Rusev and Shinsuke Nakamura in a losing effort against Kofi Kingston, Xavier Woods, and Kevin Owens.

Sheamus did tweet the following earlier today, his weekly fitness check in for the campaign he’s currently doing:

There’s no official update on Daniel Bryan’s status but word is that he is dealing with an injury coming out of the WrestleMania 35 loss to WWE Champion Kofi Kingston and the nature of his situation is being closely guarded, according to PWInsider. Bryan was not at RAW or SmackDown this week, and reportedly returned home last week after WrestleMania. He was not at SmackDown in Brooklyn last week and it was reported that he was to be examined by doctors, but there’s no news on what they found.

Backstage News On Daniel Bryan’s Heel Turn And WWE Championship Win

Last night on SmackDown Live, Daniel Bryan defeated AJ Styles to win the WWE Championship and turned heel in the process. Bryan attacked Styles after the match, and is now scheduled to face Brock Lesnar at Survivor Series in a champion versus champion match this Sunday.

During the most recent edition of Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer talked about the title change and Bryan’s heel turn, and said that Bryan had been pushing to turn heel. Bryan came up with the idea of turning heel several weeks ago, and Vince McMahon decided to go ahead with the turn on the day of the show.

Dave further noted that Bryan defeating Styles for the championship was decided last weekend. Meltzer mentioned that Vince wanted to get maximum impact with the change in plans, and decided to do the title change and the heel turn on the same night. Dave also speculated that while Bryan winning the title was decided before Becky Lynch’s injury, the injury might have influenced Vince’s decision to turn Bryan heel and make it the biggest talking point heading into The Survivor Series.

Bryan has talked for years about Lesnar being a dream match for him. Bryan and Lesnar were at one point scheduled to face each other at SummerSlam in 2014 when Bryan was the WWE World Heavyweight Champion, however Bryan was forced to vacate the title due to a neck injury. Lesnar went on to defeat Cena for the title at the show.

In a 2015 interview with The National, Bryan said that a Lesnar was his “number one dream match.”

“My number one dream match is Brock Lesnar,” Bryan told The National three years ago. “And I want that to be a WrestleMania match. I don’t know if the WWE will ever let that happen, because they might be afraid he might legitimately hurt me pretty bad. But I would like to do a major pay-per-view match with Cesaro. I’d like to to do a major pay-per-view match with Seth Rollins. I’d love do a major pay-per-view match with Stardust. We have so many talented people on the roster that I’d love to have a match on pay per view or we have a story to work through together.”

In a surprise end to SmackDown Live this week, Daniel Bryan defeated AJ Styles for the WWE Championship and will go on to face Brock Lesnar on Sunday at Survivor Series.

SmackDown kicked off with Styles cutting a promo about Lesnar. He was then interrupted by Paul Heyman and later Daniel Bryan. The two wrestlers ended the segment brawling and shortly after a main event title match was confirmed on commentary.

The match took place later in the night and ended after Daniel seemingly turned heel by hitting Styles with a low blow while the ref was knocked out to help him get the win.

After the match was over, he continued his attack on Styles.

Because Daniel is champion, he’s now been confirmed for the champion vs. champion match against Brock Lesnar on Sunday at Survivor Series — similar to last year when Styles defeated Jinder Mahal for the WWE Championship.

More News On Daniel Bryan Refusing To Go To Saudi Arabia For WWE Crown Jewel

Daniel Bryan was originally scheduled to face AJ Styles at WWE Crown Jewel for the WWE Championship, but rumors started making the rounds last week that Bryan had informed the WWE management that he wouldn’t go to Saudi Arabia. Once the company confirmed that the event would go on as planned last week, changes were made to the card, and Samoa Joe replaced Bryan in the WWE Championship match.

In the most recent edition of The Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer provided more information about the reasons behind Bryan’s refusal to go to Saudi Arabia. Meltzer stated that Daniel knew very little about Saudi Arabia until he performed at the WWE Greatest Royal Rumble pay-per-view earlier this year, and revealed that Bryan believed he couldn’t go back under those circumstances.

Meltzer further noted that Bryan’s decision had little to do with women not being allowed to compete at WWE Crown Jewel, but that the Superstar had learnt about Saudi Arabia’s treatment of homosexuals, and about Saudi Arabia not allowing Sami Zayn, who is of Syrian descent, to perform on the show, which he felt was racist.

According to The Observer, Bryan wanted The Miz to win the number one contender’s match in Australia last month, although Meltzer was unsure if it was because Bryan knew the WWE Championship match would take place in Saudi Arabia, or if Bryan felt it wasn’t the right time for him to pick up a conclusive win during their feud.

There were talks about WWE not sending AJ Styles to Saudi Arabia either after WWE confirmed last week that the event would go on as planned. An alternative plan was reportedly discussed, with Bryan and Styles facing each other at a technology center near the WWE Performance Center in an empty arena match. Furthermore, according to Meltzer, WWE officials discussed the possibility of either taping the match ahead of time and inserting it into the show, or doing it live, with the idea being that WWE could make it look like the match was taking place in Saudi Arabia. However, WWE nixed those plans fearing more backlash, with the media possibly jumping on the story of Bryan refusing to go to Saudi Arabia if they went ahead with the empty arena match at the technology center.

Bryan and Styles faced each other on SmackDown Live for the WWE Championship earlier this week, which Styles won cleanly via submission. Joe then attacked both the Superstars, setting up a match between AJ and himself at Crown Jewel this Friday for the WWE Championship.

Daniel Bryan Written Out Of Crown Jewel With Early WWE Championship Match

Just like John Cena on Raw this week, Daniel Bryan was written out of his match at Crown Jewel during tonight’s episode of SmackDown Live.

Following an in-ring segment at the top of the show between Daniel and AJ Styles that ended with the two wrestlers wanting to fight, Shane McMahon came out to announce the title bout would occur early in the opening match — instead of at Crown Jewel.

Styles ultimately retained, but Samoa Joe attacked both competitors when the match was over. Later in the evening, AJ told Paige he wants to wrestle Joe at Crown Jewel and the match became official.

As we previously reported, both John Cena and Bryan allegedly refused to work the upcoming event in Saudi Arabia due to controversy surrounding the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi. Cena was written out of the World Cup Tournament on Raw and replaced by Bobby Lashley.

Major Update On Daniel Bryan’s Status For WWE Crown Jewel

As noted, Daniel Bryan was reportedly refusing to work Friday’s WWE Crown Jewel event in Saudi Arabia. Robbie Barstool of Barstool Sports first reported last week that both Bryan and John Cena would not be appearing at the show, despite being advertised.

Cena was scheduled to be a participant in the World Cup tournament at the event. On last night’s RAW, it was announced that Bobby Lashley would be replacing Cena in the tournament. The storyline reason for the change was that Acting General Manager Baron Corbin was pleased with Lashley’s performance against Finn Balor on the show so he would replace Cena in the tournament, since Cena never actually qualified for it. WWE originally announced Cena as the first tournament participant without needing to qualify due to his prior accomplishments.

Bryan was scheduled to challenge WWE Champion AJ Styles at Crown Jewel. Despite WWE taking out new advertisements to promote the match, Bryan will not be going to Saudi Arabia for the event either, according to PWInsider. WWE reportedly started making other plans regarding the match last week.

According to the report, WWE at one point had planned not to send Styles to Saudi Arabia either, and were planning on filming their match at the Performance Center in Orlando with it airing during the Crown Jewel broadcast. That idea was dropped yesterday while they were in the middle of production plans.

It’s not known how WWE plans to handle Bryan’s absence, although they are advertising that Bryan and AJ will be on tonight’s SmackDown to promote their match. They could always film an angle to postpone the match until Survivor Series, or have Styles face someone else this Friday. The PWInsider report noted that no final decision had been made as of last night on how to proceed.

John Cena’s Crown Jewel Replacement Confirmed During Raw

Image result for John Cena’s Crown Jewel Replacement Confirmed During Raw

It’s official! John Cena will not be participating at WWE Crown Jewel in Saudi Arabia and his replacement was confirmed this week during RAW.

As we previously reported, Cena allegedly refused to participate due to controversy surrounding the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi. Up until this point, however, we had only been able to confirm with sources that Daniel Bryan had also requested to be left out of Friday’s event.

That was until a segment on Monday Night Raw when acting GM Baron Corbin decided to give Bobby Lashley a spot in the tournament. When asked who he was replacing, Corbin’s response was simply: “You are replacing someone who didn’t qualify … John Cena.”

WWE has still not addressed Daniel’s request to be left out of the event and, at time of this posting, are still openly advertising Bryan vs AJ Styles for the WWE Championship. Seems safe to assume this will most likely be addressed in some way tomorrow on SmackDown Live.
