Backstage News On “WWE Main Roster Money” Offer ROH Made To Marty Scurll

It was recently announced that Ring of Honor will be bringing back the Supercard of Honor show for WrestleMania weekend.

An interesting name that appeared in the press release was Marty Scurll. “The Villian’s” contract recently expired, but he is a free agent who will be working with ROH and the NWA for the near future.

In the latest edition of The Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer reported that ROH is offering Scurll “WWE main roster money” in a deal that would have him working only 40 dates per-year, among other perks. There is no word on if he has signed it, but it is reportedly a better deal than the one they offered Matt Taven.

Taven, a former ROH World Champion, signed a new deal in September before his old one expired in October. The contract starts out at double the highest-paid wrestler in NXT, and can end up being about triple by the end of it.

Sin Cara Gets New Ring Name

This past weekend saw the debut of Jorge Arias, a.k.a. Sin Cara, in AAA in the promotion’s Guerra de Titanes event. Arias was recently granted his release from WWE with three years left on his deal. He is on a 90-day non-compete and is not free to wrestle elsewhere until March.

WWE has not given Arias the right to use the “Sin Cara” name since they own it. Now the former Sin Cara is going by “Cinta de Oro” and he revealed the new ring name on Instagram, which translates to “Gold Ribbon”.

Luchablog noted that Cinta de Oro is the name of the Ciudad Juarez legend who trained Arias, and he has been wearing a gold ribbon on his mask as a way to honor him the last few years.

Arias had filed a trademark on Cinta de Oro in Mexico this past July, but it has not been approved so far. Legal action may be taken however as Luchablog has found a Facebook post from a woman named María Zárate claims to have ownership of Cinta de Oro since 2016.

The people in Arias’ Instagram post are allegedly the sons of Cinta de Oro to show that he has the approval from the family to use the ring name. However, in the same Facebook post from Zárate, a profile of who appears to be Ciudad Juarez legend Ari Romero, or a relative of his, implies that the men in posing with Arias are not Cinta de Oro’s legitimate sons.

Ronda Rousey Documentary Finally Being Released Next Week

Lionsgate will release a new documentary on UFC Hall of Famer and WWE Superstar Ronda Rousey next Tuesday, November 19.

You can see the trailer for “The Ronda Rousey Story: Through My Father’s Eyes” above. The documentary will be available for digital streaming and on-demand, and has a runtime of 106 minutes.

The special was written and directed by former WBC International Light Middleweight boxing champion Gary Stretch. UFC President Dana White and several fighters, including Randy Couture, are featured, along with Gene LeBell.

This project was first announced back in late 2014, by Wrekin Hill Entertainment, and was then announced to be shown in theaters in 2016. It was then announced for a delayed theatrical release in 2017, but it looks like that never happened. A screening in Hollywood did take place in late 2016. It appears Lionsgate may have acquired the rights from Wrekin Hill, and are finally releasing the documentary on digital platforms.

Below is the synopsis for the doc:

“When Ronda Rousey became the first female UFC champion, she achieved more than athletic glory—she realized her late father’s belief that she would make her greatest dreams come true. The Ronda Rousey Story: Through My Father’s Eyes follows Ronda’s inspiring journey to superstardom, weaving revealing interviews with dynamic fight footage to create a portrait of a remarkable and fearless woman who overcame all odds to become a symbol of strength, hope, and female empowerment.”

Rousey is currently on a hiatus from WWE, but is appearing on the current season of Total Divas. She has been rumored for an upcoming return to the WWE storylines but there’s no word yet on when that might happen.

Master P Getting Into The Pro Wrestling Business With House Of Glory Ownership

Rapper and multi-millionaire entrepreneur Master P has announced that he is the new owner of the House of Glory indie wrestling promotion.

P, who appeared for WCW during the 1999 feud between the No Limit Soldiers and the West Texas Rednecks, announced today that he is taking over HOG, which is the New York City indie fed that was launched in 2012, ran by The Amazing Red and Brian XL.

The No Limit boss and head of the Miller family issued a warning to WWE Chairman Vince McMahon, as seen in the new Instagram video below.

“And we’re getting into wrestling! I’m just telling y’all,” Master P told a TMZ reporter while promoting his new ‘Miller’s Family Treasures’ lifestyle reality TV show. “Vince McMahon, you in trouble, cause I’m about to take over wrestling.”

He continued, “Taking hip-hop to a whole different league. HOG – House of Glory Wrestling. I’m hiring all the top wrestlers, come over here. WWE, come over here to us.”

The caption on the video reads like this: “TMZ @romeomiller @cymphonique Our new lifestyle of the elite and wealthy tv show is called ‘Miller’s Family Treasures’ and we are making history by bringing Hip Hop to wrestling. We don’t own the NFL, NBA, or MLB but we do own House of Glory aka “HOG”. Join the movement #weallwegot @hogwrestling”

It looks like the Miller family will feature HOG on their “Miller’s Family Treasures” TV show.

There’s no word yet on when Master P and his crew will begin running HOG, or what they have planned.

Chris Benoit’s Son David Benoit Says He Wants To Join All Elite Wrestling

David Benoit, the son of Chris Benoit, says he’d like to join All Elite Wrestling.

Benoit was interviewed for a recent episode of the Pro and Bro Wrestling Podcast with Fred Rosser.

At one point in the conversation, Benoit touches on his time training to wrestle with Lance Storm. Rosser – aka former WWE star Darren Young – asks if the 26-year-old has been training as of late and he replies, “I’m just messing around in the ring right now with a couple of guys from AEW.”

David did not get into specifics on who he’s been working with, but noted he has a close relationship with Chris Jericho and attended both Double or Nothing and All Out. Benoit also said he’s had gear made for when he eventually debuts somewhere.

“I want to go to AEW one hundred percent,” he told Rosser when asked where he’d like to wrestle. “I love AEW. I love what they do for the boys. Take care of them.”

Additionally, Benoit – who has posted many photos of himself at WWE shows over the years – also claims he’s no longer allowed backstage at their events. He does not explain why. The last time he attended one of their events back in March, however, he was seen wearing an AEW jacket.
