Sting To Wrestle One Match In WWE & Then Retire Next Year

Sting

There is a working idea within WWE that Sting will wrestle one match & then retire. Everyone presumes the match will be against The Undertaker at WrestleMania 31.

There is no confirmation that WWE will make this known at WrestleMania XXX or on RAW the next night. The only thing that’s said to be for certain as of right now is that Sting will do one last match.

Speculation About Sting Signing With WWE

Sting

PWInsider is reporting that there is people within WWE who believe Sting has just signed a deal with WWE & will debut at WrestleMania XXX. However there are also people who deny the report.

Is WWE Teasing Sting Coming?

Sting

Bill Apter wrote a column on WWE.com that looks at the many faces of Sting. Apter wrote:

“More than 25 years since he became a good guy, Sting is still a presence in the ring, as well as at numerous charity events. He’s a true legend with a constant drive to always be one step better than the day before. His best days may still be yet to come.”

WWE sent out the following tweet today plugging the column:

Update On Sting Signing With WWE

sting1-1766278

According to Wrestling Observer Newsletter the reason Sting has not signed a deal yet with WWE is because WWE is dragging their feet. WWE officials are in no hurry to get Sting signed for a match at WrestleMania XXX, but word is that Sting was hoping for a match against The Undertaker at WrestleMania XXX.

Sting lives in the Dallas area & he is willing to work out a match in private at Taker’s gym, over & over to get it right, which is what Taker’s opponents have done for the past several years. That is a big reason the matches have gone over so well. There is some concern that if Brock Lesnar gets the match against Taker at WrestleMania XXX, Lesnar may not be willing to spend the several extra days working with Taker to get the entire match worked out because of he makes big money for a limited amount of work & only has a certain amount of dates on his contract.

Ed’s Perspective: Random Thoughts

sting1-1766278

A few weeks into my return to DTRT Wrestling.com for the Wrestlemania season and I decided to just share some random thoughts on the business that I’ve loved for over 40 years now.

  • When I heard that the WWE Network was going to show NXT in the same time slot as Impact, I immediately flashed back to WWF vs WCW. Back when that was going on, I hated it because I wanted to watch both and I had to choose. I was a huge WCW fan, so they won out for me. Today with DVR’s that wouldn’t be a problem.
  • AJ Lee participated in a Q&A at the Wizard World New Orleans Comic Con earlier this week. Before she came out, the host told the crowd to please not ask any questions about a certain someone who may not be with the company. Read more at Wrestling Inc.com.
  • AJ Styles vs CM Punk. In my humble opinion, any Indy promotions willing to shell out the cash for that would more than recoup their investment if they held it in a place big enough to hold all the fans who want to see it. I even had a conversation with a couple of Indy performers who would love to see it happen.
  • Who is ready to see Roman Reigns turn babyface and get a huge singles push? Hint – this writer!!!
  • Is it just me or is MVP as the “Investor” a huge let down. Maybe it is just me, because the ratings the last two weeks have been very good.
  • Sting going to WWE after all these years – is it really going to happen or are they just messing with us?  If he comes in as the General Manager, will we see him in black with a ball bat???? Just sayin’.
  • Who would like to see Zeb Coulter pull out his bull whip and turn all Dirty Dutch Mantell on Jack Swagger? Talk about some Memphis old school.
  • Seeing The Great Muta at Lockdown would be worth the price of admission.
  • Please tell me that we are not stuck with Orton vs. Batista for the main event at Wrestlemania XXX. I’m hoping that since the Super Bowl of professional football sucked so badly that the WWE will do something for the fans of the Super Bowl of professional wrestling (H/T to Trevor for the Super Bowl of wrestling line. I’m gonna steal it every chance I get).
  • Just think if a new MAJOR promotion was in the works and would sign these Free Agents – Sting; AJ Styles; Jeff Hardy; CM Punk (yes I know he’s still under contract). Competition is good for the business, and it’s long been my hope that another major promotion would appear on the horizon.
  • Finally, who is ready to hear me “lay the smack down” on Vanessa’s “candy ass” when the new DTRT Wrestling format hits the air soon? IF YOU SMMMMEEEEELLLLLL What Ed is Cookin’. (See I know I’m already pissing her off with The Rock references).

Sting To WWE Update

F4WOnline is reporting that Sting has not officially signed a deal with WWE, but it’s almost guaranteed that he will sign soon. Sting is not expected to be rushed into a match at WrestleMania XXX, there has been discussions that he could be made the General Manager of RAW, which would keep him on TV & possibly lead to bigger matches down the road for 2014-2015.

Sting’s Message After Impact Match Suggests Turning To Prayer

Following his match on TNA Impact last night in which Sting put his contract on the line against the world heavyweight championship , and lost. Sting posted a cryptic message on his official Facebook page. “When contemplating what’s around the corner, try taking it all to prayer… it may help.”

That was soon followed by a new cover photo featuring an old quote from his time in WCW. “The only thing that’s for sure about Sting is nothing’s for sure.” written in white text with a plain black background.

This comes after growing rumors and reports from sources like The Wrestling Observer Newsletter that claim Sting has been in serious talks with the WWE for some time even to the point where they are coming up with “Monikers” for him such as “A man called Sting”.

If Sting were to sign with WWE this would be the first time the legend has ever worked with the company, as Sting has turned down offers dating back to the buyout of WCW in 2001.

The ultimate dream match for years has been a WrestleMania encounter between The Undertaker and Sting. As many feel Sting is similar to Taker in persona.

Here’s the match from Impact last night
