WWE announced the following:

Shayna Baszler officially joins the WWE Performance CenterShayna Baszler already made history as a finalist in the inaugural WWE Mae Young Classic. Now, The Queen of Spades is ready to embark on her new career in WWE as an official member of the WWE Performance Center in Orlando, Fla.

Baszler, a former UFC fighter originally from Sioux City, S.D., began training full-time at the Performance Center last week.

“I’m looking forward to getting out there and twisting limbs off and breaking bodies,” she told WWE.com. “I can’t wait.”

The WWE Universe watched this past summer as Baszler used a rear-naked choke to submit four consecutive opponents and advance to the Mae Young Classic Final, where she lost to tournament winner Kairi Sane of Japan.

A member of the MMA Four Horsewomen and former training partner of Ronda Rousey, Baszler brings extensive catch wrestling expertise to the Performance Center. She learned the dangerous and hybrid form of grappling under former UFC Heavyweight Champion Josh Barnett and the late U.K. legend Billy Robinson, continuing a prestigious lineage that also includes Karl Gotch, whom Japanese audiences once dubbed “The God of Wrestling.”

Baszler described WWE as “the next step” in her progression as a combat athlete.

“It’s very serious to me and, in some ways, a lot more important [than MMA] based on where I come from,” Baszler said. “Waving the banner of my coaches is a heavy flag to wield, so it’s something I take very serious. Because of that, I wanted to start at the beginning and show that I’m willing to start at the bottom and prove myself and work my way up, so there’s no excuse when I get here and I’m breaking these girls in half. I didn’t get any ‘gimmes.'”

Shayna Baszler On Why Ronda Rousey And The Four Horsewomen Were At The Mae Young Classic

A pioneer of women’s mixed martial arts, Shayna Baszler is hoping to make a name for herself in pro wrestling when she competes in the upcoming Mae Young Classic. The “Queen Of Spades” spoke to TV Insider about the moment she got the call to join the 32-woman tournament.

“WWE is something I’ve had my eye on,” Baszler said. “After the call, I said to myself, ‘All right, it’s time to get it in gear.’ It fired me up to get into even better shape and get ready to go.”

Baszler competed in MMA for 16 years. She then transitioned to wrestling and worked the independent circuit. Baszler has been trained by former UFC heavyweight champion Josh Barnett and Billy Robinson, honing her kills in grappling and catch wrestling. She was also seen on Total Divas as a training partner for Nikki Bella at the WWE Performance Center.

Baszler is known in the MMA world as part of the “Four Horsewomen,” which includes Ronda Rousey, Marina Shafir and Jessamyn Duke. The four of them were in the front row during SummerSlam 2014. Baszler asked her “stablemates” for their support in the Mae Young Classic, and they obliged with no hesitation.

“We’re such good friends and training partners and teammates,” Baszler said. “I specifically called all three of them and said, ‘Guys, this is the most important thing I’ve ever done in my combat sports career. I’d love for you guys to be there because you were there at the beginning of all of this, and I would like you to be there for this.’ They were like, ‘Yeah, you got it. We’ll drop whatever we are doing. We’re there.'”

Things picked up though after Baszler taunted Lynch, Flair and Bayley — leading to an across the aisle face off, where both sides flashed fours at each other.

It remains to be seen what this will lead to, but a few years ago Ronda was interested in working a WWE match at WrestleMania with her friends — could the seeds be starting to plant here?

Guess we’ll have to wait and see.
