Reby Hardy Contacts Lawyer Regarding Impact Drama, Matt Hardy On TNA Never Paying Senor Benjamin

Matt and Reby Hardy continue to battle publicly with Impact Wrestling regarding the ownership of the “Broken” gimmick. In an interview with the LAW earlier this week, which is owned by Anthem, the parent company of Impact Wrestling, Impact Wrestling president Ed Nordholm said that it was “unquestionable” that they owned the gimmick.

“I think it’s unquestionable that the ownership of the characters in the storyline resides in Impact Wrestling,” Nordholm said. “I don’t think even the Hardys would dispute that. They’ve all signed contracts. Their contracts are standard contracts. Not only in the wrestling industry, but in the entertainment industry, generally, the producer of the show owns the content and it doesn’t really matter who in the creative team came up with the idea of what the character should be. The person that owns the storyline and the character is the person who invested to take that idea and put it on TV. That’s what we did. Impact put those characters on TV, and the contracts with those people are indisputably contracts that provide their IP to Impact.”

Impact Wrestling Creative Consultant to Head of Creative Dutch Mantel, who has been bickering with the Hardys on Twitter lately, responded to Nordholm’s comments and thanked him for “clearing it up.”

Matt Hardy’s wife, Reby, responded to the former Zeb Colter (Dutch Mantel) and shared a text message that she sent to her attorney, as seen below:

Matt chimed in, noting that Senor Benjamin was never paid by the company despite being promised, and he never signed a release to allow the company to air footage with his likeness:

Matt Hardy Teases End Of ‘Broken’ Gimmick?

It appears the “Broken” gimmick for RAW Tag Team Champions The Hardys is officially done as Matt Hardy tweeted on his “CONDISHTION” being contained by the reaction they received at WrestleMania 33 on Sunday. As noted, Hardy has made brief mentions of the “Broken” gimmick on WWE TV this week. He wrote the following today:

Matt’s wife Reby Hardy also referred to the “Broken” gimmick being done. She wrote the following and also told a fan to tell WWE if they wanted to see the gimmick return. She wrote:

On a related note, Reby continues to take shots at Impact Wrestling and their parent company on social media. She tweeted the following last night after a “f–k that owl” chant broke out during the post-WrestleMania 33 RAW:

Reby Hardy Reveals Legal Proposal From Impact Wrestling, Says They Are Done Playing Nice

As noted, Impact Wrestling sent ROH and pay-per-view companies legal threats before ROH’s 15th Anniversary show last weekend. Reby Hardy posted several posts on Twitter regarding Impact’s legal battle with the Hardys, as seen below:

UPDATE: TNA sent an absolutely laughable legal proposal re: trademark, usage & ownership. Sigh.We tried to play nice. Truly.
Oh well.

They also seem real hurt about #f–kThatOwl. Awww.

Cute.

Fun facts ! Seรฑor Benjamin never signed one piece of paper stating TNA could ever use, broadcast or profit from his image/likeness.

Fun facts ! Maxel was never legally cleared to work/appear on camera. Wanna check them TV child labor laws & get back to me, TNA ?

Fun facts ! Nearly every notable attribute that makes #BROKEN Matt Hardy “Broken Matt Hardy” was developed by ME in a @WaffleHouse. Yummy !

Fun facts ! Trying to prevent someone from legally making money is torturous interference of business & a HUGE OFFENSE ! How bow dat C&D ?

Fun facts ! I filed for the #BROKEN trademark when all the shady business from JJ & Anthem got back to me, WEEKS before his contract was up.

If owning my husband was that important, why not file/apply – oh, I don’t know – BEFORE his contract was up ? BEFORE you found out I did ?

And the store I’ve been running for 5+ years, 100% by myself, with MY original designs & my sole effort/investment. Yeah, they want a cut.

Theme song I composed/recorded/graciously allowed them to use GRATIS when they were having licensing issues w/music. They claiming that too.

If the character is TNA’s, where are their format sheets ? (Don’t exist). Where are the scripts ? (Can’t be produced; don’t exist). And….

..Best part. Ready ? SURPRISE ! “The Hardy Show” was behind the scenes recording OUR entire creative process this whole time. See you soon !

And #f–kThatOwl

Reby also noted that all of the character terms (‘delete’, ‘broken’, etc.) were Matt’s idea except for “obsolete,” which she said she came up with. She also hinted that they have hired legal representation:

I’d suggest those who don’t know the 1st thing about image releases in television refrain from commenting on what is/isn’t “right”……it’s past a matter of opinion at this point. It comes down to law, something we never had to worry about til TNA brought it into things

They wanna get legal & specific ?
We can get legal & specific.
That’s what it comes down to.
Sad, but that’s what we’re forced to do.

From now on, someone will be speaking for us regarding the ridiculous situation we’ve been put in. And not on twitter. Thx for the support.

Maxel was 100% safe & well protected at all times. Dixie & Universal made sure of that. Not sure new mgmt would have; PART of reason we left

Getting technical NOW regarding releases & permissions to appear re: Maxel because we have no choice but to given the circumstances.

We didn’t bring legal garbage into this. TNA did. They want to bring the law into it, so can we. Simple as that. Anyone else questioning anything about my kid can pull a Maddox & dump your BS load elsewhere. Thanks

Impact Wrestling Sends Cease And Desist Letters To ROH PPV Providers Over Broken Universe

Impact Wrestling sent cease and desist letters to PPV providers in regards to Broken Matt and Jeff Hardy ahead of ROHโ€˜s event Friday night โ€ฆ but weโ€™re told the companyย doesnโ€™t want to permanentlyย stop the brothers from using the characters.

Sources with direct knowledge says the call to send legal letters came from the top brass at Anthemย and wasnโ€™t a decision thatย Jeff Jarrett had anything to do with.

Pro Wrestling Sheetย was told the cease and desists included direct verbiage from the contracts both brothers signed. According to reports that was enough to scare Dish Network, who pulled the show.

Impact Wrestling sources say Anthem isnโ€™t trying to recreate the characters without the brothers and they donโ€™t want to force Matt and Jeff to no longer use them either โ€” they want to work out an agreement for the Broken Universe IP. Oneย that gives Anthem a cut of future proceeds.

Nordholm also tweeted sayingย Jeremy Borash, Dave Lagana and Billy Corgan created the characters, which should give further insight into why heโ€™s standing firm.

Mattโ€™s wife Reby Hardy went public with their feelings on this over the past 24 hours.

Reby Hardy On If The Hardys Were Asked To Drop TNA Tag Titles

As noted, Reby Hardy appeared on Busted Open with Dave LaGreca today and discussed the Hardys leaving Impact Wrestling (highlights are here). Reby Hardy On If Matt Hardy Will Drop ‘Broken’ Gimmick, How Dixie Carter Treated Talent, TNA Contracts

Reby Hardy appeared on Busted Open with Dave LaGreca on Sirius XM this afternoon to discuss the Hardys leaving Impact Wrestling. You can listen to the full interview by clicking here, below are some highlights:

* She said that the rumors are true that the Hardys are leaving TNA. She said that Matt, Jeff and herself all had separate contracts with TNA, noting that they all signed at the same time. They didn’t know up until a few days ago if they were re-signing. She said that they received theirr contracts “like 5 days before” which was “a note of contention for [Matt and Jeff],” although she didn’t care.

* She said that TNA was “the perfect situation” for them because they had a limited schedule, the whole family got to travel together and that she got to bring her child to work. She said that things have been changing and it wouldn’t have been the same perfect situation if they re-signed.

* She said that she felt that someone in Matt and Jeff’s position should not have to be chasing anyone for contracts for six or seven weeks and that after a while it was like, “s–t, I’m not important.” She stated that during this time they were getting weird vibes and feedback. They were waiting until the last second for their new contracts, and noted that it takes time to review the contracts. It got so down to the wire that they felt almost rushed into signing. She pointed out that several things needed to be changed in the contracts that “were slipped in there as if we wouldn’t notice at the last minute.”

“It’s just all of this stuff with someone [for] as long as they’ve been in the business has never had to deal with, and should never have to deal with,” Reby said.

* When asked if the future was bleak for Impact Wrestling, Reby said that she doesn’t think so. TNA has a hardcore audience, which is why AJ Styles and Samoa Joe have such hardcore followings. She said that there is so much talent at TNA that they can succeed, although there is the other part of the audience that needs those big names. She said that the locker room is amazing and noted that 2016 was a hard year, but most of the talent didn’t care about the rumors and worked hard.

* She said that a lot of people like to put down Dixie Carter, but at least Dixie knew how to talk to people and give the respect that they needed.

“I’m not talking about me because I know I’m nobody, before everybody tried to f–kin’ jump on me,” Reby said. “I’m talking about the boys, and not just Matt and Jeff.”

* When asked if there was anyway the relationship with TNA can be salvaged, Reby said that it’s too late tonight and that “it’s over” at midnight tonight. She said that there was time for negotiations, but it didn’t happen. She said that if things would have been handled differently, “we wouldn’t be having this conversation.”

* As for the future of Matt and Jeff, she said that Matt is in love with the Broken brilliance and will not be dropping it.

“[It] is not about to let that go, I can confirm that for sure,” Reby said. “It’s kind of his baby, his brainchild. He took such a risk with it, even I was telling him, dude, this accent’s gotta go. Everyone was like, ‘you’re crazy, this is dumb, it’s insane.’ He kept on with it, it kept evolving. It’s his baby, so there will be ‘Broken’ wherever there is Matt Hardy.”

As seen at the end of last night’s Hardy New Year special edition of TNA Impact Wrestling, it was revealed that Matt Hardy and Reby Sky are expecting their second baby boy in the summer. Below is video from their gender reveal.

It appears the Brother Nero character for Jeff Hardy is no more. On last night’s show there was a segment where Matt took Jeff back to the Dome of Deletion and announced that he had repaid his debt by helping Matt reclaim the TNA Tag Team Titles. Matt then “restored” everything he had taken from Jeff. Matt also tweeted on Jeff’s gimmick:
