Mauro Ranallo - Impact - Rebellion - Main Event

Mauro Ranallo Working The Impact Rebellion PPV

Mauro Ranallo working the Impact Rebellion pay-per-view is reportedly a one-off, at least for now.

Impact announced on Thursday that the former WWE and MMA announcer will join the Rebellion commentary team on April 25 to call the Title vs. Title match between Impact World Champion Rich Swann and AEW World Champion Kenny Omega.

PWInsider reports that Mauro is only coming in to Impact for this pay-per-view, at least as of Thursday evening. However, the door could be open for more work down the line. The gig came together over the last several weeks with the idea of Mauro adding to the grandeur of the Title vs. Title main event.

Mauro was at the Impact studios on Wednesday night, doing voice-over work for the “5 Ways To Win” videos for Omega and Swann, which you can watch below. Mauro also did voice-over work for the “This Is Rebellion” special that will air on AXS TV next Tuesday night.

“Swann vs Omega, champion vs champion, title vs title – this match represents everything I love about professional wrestling,” Ranallo said in a press release. “I have been fortunate to call these two superstar’s matches in the past and I’m very excited to be part of this historic encounter.”

Mauro and Impact Executive Vice President Scott D’Amore go back a few decades after working together in Stampede Wrestling. It’s possible that this is the connection between Mauro and Impact.

“This once in a generation title vs. title showdown deserves to be called by the once in a generation play-by-play announcer,” D’Amore added in a press release. “I’ve known Mauro for over two decades. There are very few people in the world who are as passionate about or know their wrestling history as well as Mauro. This is an historic main event, the world champions of two major organizations putting everything on the line. I’m thrilled that April 25th, at Rebellion, fans will have Mauro’s legendary voice proving the soundtrack to history!”

This will be Mauro’s first pro wrestling work since leaving WWE in August 2020. He has continued to work for Showtime Boxing, and worked the Mike Tyson pay-per-view from Triller last year.

Kenny Omega Announced For Title Vs. Title Match At Impact Rebellion

Before concluding last night’s go-home show before Sacrifice this weekend, Executive Vice President Scott D’Amore has announced that Rich Swann and Moose will defend both their Impact World and TNA World Heavyweight Championships in a Unification Match. The winner will go on to face the AEW World Champion Kenny Omega in the main event of Rebellion on Saturday, April 24 in a Title versus Title Match.

After a back and forth exchange since Hard To Kill, Moose has been targeting Swann for a World Title shot. Coincidentally, this feud arose just after they took a major loss to Omega and the Impact World Tag Team Champions, The Good Brothers, in that main event.

Moose, who originally brought back the retired TNA World Heavyweight Championship last April at Rebellion, has called himself the “Self-Proclaimed” Champion and has defended it countless times against TNA veterans. It wasn’t until last month that D’Amore sanctioned the title again. It’ll be interesting to see who will be the first in the company’s history to unify the top titles.

Omega, on the other hand, has been on a roll since winning the AEW World Championship off of Jon Moxley last December. This past Sunday at Revolution, Omega retained his championship against Moxley in a rubber match which saw both men compete in AEW’s first-ever Exploding Barbed Wire Death Match.

Sacrifice will be live exclusively on Impact Plus this Saturday.

Michael Elgin makes his way down to the ring. Elgin grabs a microphone, and says that last year at Rebellion, he came to Impact to make a statement – that statement was that he was going to become the next World Champion. He calls for a referee to come down to the ring. Next, he grabs ring announcer David Penzer. Now that he has both a ref and Penzer in the ring, he wants them to make a professional call, and announce him as the winner. As Penzer is about to announce Elgin as the winner, Moose’s music hits. Moose reveals that underneath his robe, he’s wearing the former TNA World Heavyweight Championship.

Moose tells Elgin that he understands his pain of waiting for a chance at gaining a title opportunity. Elgin thinks Moose wearing the former TNA Championship is hysterical. Moose says he has every right to wear it because he’s beaten several TNA originals. Then, we hear Hernandez’s music hit. Hernandez doesn’t say too much before he runs into the ring and all three men start fighting.

Brian Cage Talks Injury At Impact Rebellion, If He’ll Be Out Of Action

Impact Wrestling announced after last night’s Rebellion PPV the new Impact World Champion Brian Cage was rushed to the emergency room after sustaining an injury during his match against Johnny Impact. Earlier today, Cage joined Busted Open to give an update after taking a spanish fly from the ramp down to the floor.

“Right when we hit, I’m rolling and the pain shoots down through my leg,” Cage said. “It’s a feeling I’ve never had before in my life. I’m instantly thinking, ‘ruptured disc or whatever. My back is f—ed, I’m going to have to have surgery or something.’ Then I’m thinking, ‘Maybe it’ll go away,’ and just trying to enter the ring after that moment, I’m bleeding and what not.

“Rolling into the ring, turning my hip over hip and trying to get up, I felt like there was no strength there and the pain shot down my leg again, and I’m like ‘crap.’ But it felt almost a little bit better, so maybe it will subside here in a second, like a flash thing. Then I think was in the corner and I evaded Johnny, and there was no movement, like, I couldn’t. I felt so slow and robotic in my mannerisms and movement because of the pain.”

Cage then said he shouldn’t be out of action for long as he was diagnosed with severe inflammation and a bone bruise. At worst, a small fracture, but there’s not much he can do for that aside from rest.

“Yeah it doesn’t look like I’m going to be out,” Cage said. “[The Doctor] goes, ‘I think you’re going to be fine, you have severe inflammation and a bone bruise, there could be a small fracture there. I would like to rule that out, however, if there is a fracture, I don’t seeing it being any major fracture. Even then, you can’t do much more for that, just err on the side of caution.'”
