[Report] Possible Major Spoiler On When Goldberg Will Return To WWE

Goldberg’s last match took place against Drew McIntyre at the Royal Rumble. A new report gives us an idea on when he’ll return to WWE.

Goldberg will reportedly make his return to WWE programming very soon.

According to Fightful Select (h/t Ringside News), Goldberg will return to television on Monday Night Raw next week. Apparently, the plan is to run a program between the Hall of Famer and WWE Champion Bobby Lashley for SummerSlam, which will take place at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada on Aug. 21.

Last year, Goldberg revealed that his WWE contract consists of two matches annually, and it runs through 2023. The 54-year-old has already wrestled one match this year, losing to Drew McIntyre in a WWE Championship bout at the Royal Rumble pay-per-view.

SummerSlam is one of WWE’s marquee pay-per-views, so this would obviously be a smart time to use up Goldberg’s second match of 2021. Lashley will defend his title against Kofi Kingston at Money in the Bank (at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth) this Sunday. Even if the former were to lose the title, it doesn’t mean WWE can’t run a non-title program between Lashley and Goldberg.

Next week’s episode of Raw will take place at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas. This will be the first Raw show to feature fans since March 9, 2020. WWE spent over five months at the Performance Center in Orlando before launching the ThunderDome technology in August, which they used up until this week. WWE will return to touring this Friday, with SmackDown taking place at the Toyota Center in Houston.

Monday Night Raw suffered its lowest viewership ever last week. Clearly, WWE has some work to do when it comes to fixing the product and regaining the interest of fans. Goldberg remains a giant fan favorite and main event draw, and a program with Lashley could go a long way in enhancing the television product. Simply put, Goldberg’s is coming back at a very opportune time.

Goldberg Issued Challenge To WWE Champion Drew McIntyre On RAW For Title Match At Royal Rumble

Goldberg has his sights set on the gold, and he made his intentions clear during a tense confrontation with WWE Champion Drew McIntyre.

It all went down on this week’s edition of Raw immediately following the main event between Keith Lee and Drew McIntyre.

Monday night was a special one. It was “Legends Night” after all, and there were plenty of legends on the show, including Hulk Hogan, Mark Henry, Big Show, I.R.S., Mickie James, Torie Wilson and others. But there was one legend who waited until the closing moments of the show to make his presence known.

After McIntyre’s hard fought victory over a valiant Keith Lee, Goldberg claimed that McIntyre doesn’t have any respect for legends. He then demanded a title match with McIntyre at the upcoming Royal Rumble event. Drew’s response was less than enthusiastic.

“Fighting you would be like fighting my own dad,” the champ said … and then things got out of hand.

The WWE Hall of Famer shoved McIntyre to the ground. Drew got back on his feet and the pair squared off as the show went off the air.

Check out the tense confrontation below.

Goldberg To Appear On SmackDown This Friday

Looks like Goldberg will be stepping into the ring again soon, as WWE is promoting an appearance from the Hall of Famer on WWE Friday Night SmackDown this week.

During RAW last night, a commercial aired teasing that Goldberg will announce “who’s next” on Friday Night SmackDown.

The 53-year-old last wrestled at SummerSlam in a squash match against Dolph Ziggler. Prior to that, he faced-off against Undertaker at Super ShowDown in Saudi Arabia.

With the next Super Showdown taking place this month, it would seem to be a safe bet to assume Goldberg will be appearing at the event.

Goldberg On What Went Wrong In His Match With The Undertaker At WWE Super Showdown

Former multi-time world champion and WWE Hall of Famer Bill Goldberg was a guest on Booker T’s The Hall Of Fame podcast. During his discussion with Booker, Goldberg wasn’t shy about looking back at the match he had against The Undertaker at WWE Super Showdown 2019.

“I’m not going to make excuses, that’s for sure. I’m just going to answer questions and give facts,” Bill stated. “Facts are the reason why I had that match [with The Undertaker] and took that opportunity, was because it was an opportunity of a lifetime whether I was 22, 52 or 102, you know? Not that it was in Saudi Arabia but because it was against The Undertaker. He was the one guy that I never crossed paths with, and the heat – I knew going in it was going to be hot. In Georgia playing for The Falcons, or The Georgia Bulldogs, or the L.A Rams down in Los Angeles, it’s hotter than hell and you know it’s going to be hot. It’s one of those things you accept.”

Goldberg mentioned how with each new match he books, the preparation leading up to it varies. Bill ultimately regrets his attention to trimming down and getting in shape as opposed to weight training and getting bigger for Super Showdown.

“I had the perfect storm of crappiness because, for me, people don’t know all the things that go into everything,” Goldberg said. “At 52, going against The Undertaker and being Bill Goldberg in the short period of time that I had, I can either do one or two things – I can get in really good shape or I can try to get as big as humanly possible so I don’t look like an old Bill Goldberg against The Undertaker. So, it’s a compromise; it’s always a compromise. This last time, though I didn’t need the cardio, man, I didn’t concentrate on getting big at all for the 4 weeks that I had. I just tried to get in shape. I didn’t try to add a pound. I tried to lose weight this time. Every situation is different. It’s like trapping for a different team. I liken everything to football because I’m a meathead and was born into a football helmet.”

Goldberg also explained that his stiff connection with the ring post was something he and many others were expecting to happen. He apparently goes out of his way to try and make the spots he is a part of look as realistic they possibly can.

“But the ring post thing, hey man, that’s a spot that a couple of the bookers came up to me and said, well, we called it,” Goldberg said. “We knew you were going to do that because 50% of the time I have done that spot I have not had good results. Because here’s the deal, I don’t profess to be an entertainer on the level of Ric Flair that can go out and make people laugh. I mean, I can, but it’s not my way of doing things. My way of making people’s jaws drop is blurring the line of reality and fiction so everything I do has to be – it’s like the kick I took from Dolph Ziggler.

“The first kick that I took felt really good because I had to react to it because it was planted on me. It was perfect,” Bill continued. “That is the way I work, man, I am a reactionary guy. If I am going to be a Defensive Lineman that was an All-American, if I’m going to be a guy who played a couple of years in the NFL, if I am going to be a guy that was known to be a thrasher, I’m not going to run into a turnbuckle and miss it and act like it killed me. I can’t do that, so I have to make it look as close as killing me as possible, and sometimes, unfortunately, the circumstances are such that I go a little overboard. And when you accelerate at an age, your body can’t take that overboard as it used to.

Along with an intense heatwave, Goldberg noted how the timing between he and The Undertaker caused additional issues to take place during their match at Super Showdown.

“I can’t bounce back from it like I used to, and then the perfect storm of the heat, and the perfect storm of The Undertaker not having the timing and not going at the same time at one point or something. Hey, at the end of the day, there’s never been a freaking dude in the middle of the ring that I couldn’t pick up, period. It was an unfortunate deal that I shouldn’t have gone as hard as I went. And then there were a couple of people saying that he referee should have called it. Well guess what? The referee asked me 15 times how I felt and you know what I told him? Fifteen different answers. I felt different every single time that he asked me.”

Goldberg followed up the poor performance against The Undertaker was a crowd-pleasing victory over Dolph Ziggler at SummerSlam this past Sunday. When the subject of his storied career reaching it’s final chapter was brought up, Goldberg seemed conflicted on where his future is going.

“No, [I’m not finished],” Goldberg said. “I mean, I’d be content if I never stepped foot in the ring again. But I don’t know, it’s not something I aspire to do but it is something I aspire to do. I don’t know. I have no idea; I just don’t.”

Goldberg vs. Dolph Ziggler Set For SummerSlam

Goldberg made an appearance last night on RAW during a MizTV interview segment after it was explained that the contract Dolph Ziggler signed wasn’t for a match against The Miz as previously announced or against Shawn Michaels who was on hand for the segment.

Goldberg signed the contract and said to Ziggler – “Your’e Next.”

Just as the show was coming to a close …  Shawn Michaels hit Ziggler with some Sweet Chin Music.

WWE has also announced a 50-man Battle Royal and Triple H vs. Randy Orton for their return to the Kingdom.

Below is the full announcement on the event:

Backstage News On Bill Goldberg’s WWE Return, WWE Reportedly Concerned About Goldberg And AEW

WWE may have signed WWE Hall of Famer Bill Goldberg for the June 7 Saudi Arabia show to keep him from All Elite Wrestling.

It was noted in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that WWE reportedly approached Goldberg for the show, figuring he was the one star left who could potentially bring back lapsed fans if he were to work with AEW. The situation was compared to how Vince McMahon, without the benefit of hindsight, left the door open in the 1990s for WCW to sign names like WWE Hall of Famers Hulk Hogan, Randy Savage and Roddy Piper.

WWE officials did have a concern that Goldberg would eventually sign with AEW, according to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio.

There’s no word yet on who Goldberg will face in Saudi Arabia, but a Lesnar vs. Goldberg match has been rumored.

Brock Lesnar and The Undertaker had been expected for the Saudi show, but Goldberg came out of the blue. Goldberg is believed to be making major money from the new contract with WWE. The Saudi shows usually bring a big payday to the wrestlers, as high as seven figures for some, but the fact that Goldberg rarely wrestles says a lot. There’s no word yet on if Goldberg’s deal is just for the Saudi show, or for more dates, but WWE could have made a strong offer to Goldberg if they are serious about keeping him away from AEW.

Randy Orton joked about Goldberg’s pay for the Saudi Arabia show this week, as seen below:

Goldberg, Brock Lesnar and The Undertaker will be a part of WWE’s next event in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

WWE today officially announced that they will return to the King Abdullah Sports City Stadium in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on Friday, June 7th at 8 p.m. AST. In addition to Goldberg, Brock Lesnar and The Undertaker, WWE announced Roman Reigns, Kofi Kingston, Braun Strowman, Seth Rollins and AJ Styles for the event.

No matches have been announced as of this writing, although The Undertaker is rumored to be wrestling Elias. If Goldberg faces Brock Lesnar, it would be their fourth meeting on pay-per-view. Goldberg won the first two matches at WrestleMania XX and Survivor Series 2016. Lesnar, who recently announced that he would not be returning to the UFC, defeated then-WWE Universal Champion Goldberg for the title at WrestleMania 33 in 2017 in Goldberg’s last match for the company.

It will be WWE’s first event in Saudi Arabia since the controversial Crown Jewel show last November in Riyadh. WWE held the event despite backlash after Saudi Arabia was believed to have ordered the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi.
