The AJ Lee & CM Punk engagement rumors started after a fan talked to AJ at the Tampa airport on March 29th on her way to Washington, DC for RAW. She told the fan that this was the last time she would be flying out of Tampa because she was moving & now is engaged, then showed off her ring. The rumors were confirmed when AJ got backstage at RAW on Monday.

Steve Austin on his podcast predicts that CM Punk will return to WWE at WrestleMania XXX. Austin first made this prediction 2 months ago & on his latest podcast he says he sticking to his prediction. He says “Who knows if it will happen. We will know in about six short days when WrestleMania actually happens.”
CM Punk was not included in The Undertaker video package Monday night on RAW that was introduced by Paul Heyman. The line from Triple H to Daniel Bryan about not “taking your ball & going home” was an obvious jab at CM Punk.
There was was talk among talent Monday night regarding Punk’s appearance on AMC’s “Talking Dead” on Sunday night. Discussion was about how healthy he looked & if he can fly out to LA to be on the show, then he could have appeared in Chicago, at least for a backstage meeting.
Each of those links comes from right here on DTRT Wrestling.com and I want to commend Trevor on the thoroughness of his coverage on this topic.
Now my perspective. I SMELL A GOOD OLD FASHIONED WORK has been cookin’ – and I for one am not a bit happy about it.
First of all, look at the Pipebomb of 2011 from Punk:
Now please, don’t get me wrong, I enjoy when a superstar gets the opportunity to blast on things that are on his mind. Hell, even Fox News covered that pipebomb in 2011. Punk said things that you or I might have been saying, but he had a nationally televised platform.
So why am I upset that we can expect another one tomorrow? Well, to me it appears to make Punk seem to be a cry baby and I don’t believe that he is. It appears that every time Punk doesn’t get his way, he walks out – Vince begs him to come back or stay and gives him an open mic as his reward.
Pipebomb 2011 had a purpose.
Pipebomb 2014 smells rotten to me. All the coverage over the last several weeks, and here it’s all going to be resolved just in time for Punk to make his triumphant return in of all places – his hometown of Chicago and shortly before Wrestlemania.
I know that works are a big part of this business, but I hate being made feel like I’m a big sucker – and if this really is a work then I think the WWE has disrespected us fans, manipulated all those people who paid good money for shows and missed seeing Punk for the last several weeks, and tried to make us look like stupid sheep.
Vince McMahon commented on CM Punk’s WWE Status at today’s conference call with company investors. An investor asked about Punk’s WWE status & McMahon acknowledged that Punk is one of the WWE’s biggest performers & said – “He’s taking a sabbatical, let’s just put it that way.”
All mention of CM Punk appearing at the Louisville Comic Con in late March have been removed from the Wizard World website. The appearance is still listed on WWE’s website. Comic Con officials was asked by a fan on Facebook this weekend if Punk is still appearing & they replied, “we are waiting to hear.”
A few weeks into my return to DTRT Wrestling.com for the Wrestlemania season and I decided to just share some random thoughts on the business that I’ve loved for over 40 years now.
When I heard that the WWE Network was going to show NXT in the same time slot as Impact, I immediately flashed back to WWF vs WCW. Back when that was going on, I hated it because I wanted to watch both and I had to choose. I was a huge WCW fan, so they won out for me. Today with DVR’s that wouldn’t be a problem.
AJ Lee participated in a Q&A at the Wizard World New Orleans Comic Con earlier this week. Before she came out, the host told the crowd to please not ask any questions about a certain someone who may not be with the company. Read more at Wrestling Inc.com.
AJ Styles vs CM Punk. In my humble opinion, any Indy promotions willing to shell out the cash for that would more than recoup their investment if they held it in a place big enough to hold all the fans who want to see it. I even had a conversation with a couple of Indy performers who would love to see it happen.
Who is ready to see Roman Reigns turn babyface and get a huge singles push? Hint – this writer!!!
Is it just me or is MVP as the “Investor” a huge let down. Maybe it is just me, because the ratings the last two weeks have been very good.
Sting going to WWE after all these years – is it really going to happen or are they just messing with us? If he comes in as the General Manager, will we see him in black with a ball bat???? Just sayin’.
Who would like to see Zeb Coulter pull out his bull whip and turn all Dirty Dutch Mantell on Jack Swagger? Talk about some Memphis old school.
Seeing The Great Muta at Lockdown would be worth the price of admission.
Please tell me that we are not stuck with Orton vs. Batista for the main event at Wrestlemania XXX. I’m hoping that since the Super Bowl of professional football sucked so badly that the WWE will do something for the fans of the Super Bowl of professional wrestling (H/T to Trevor for the Super Bowl of wrestling line. I’m gonna steal it every chance I get).
Just think if a new MAJOR promotion was in the works and would sign these Free Agents – Sting; AJ Styles; Jeff Hardy; CM Punk (yes I know he’s still under contract). Competition is good for the business, and it’s long been my hope that another major promotion would appear on the horizon.
Finally, who is ready to hear me “lay the smack down” on Vanessa’s “candy ass” when the new DTRT Wrestling format hits the air soon? IF YOU SMMMMEEEEELLLLLL What Ed is Cookin’. (See I know I’m already pissing her off with The Rock references).
Wrestling Observer Newsletter is reporting that former Power Rangers star & MMA fighter Jason David Frank wants to fight CM Punk for the World Series of Fighting promotion. WSOF matchmaker & Executive Vice President Ali Abded-Aziz confirmed to Ariel Helwani of MMAFighting.com that Frank’s manager contacted them about such a fight & they said they would be interested in having Punk fight if he would like to. Bellator MMA promotion has also expressed interest in having Punk fight for them.
While CM Punk VS Triple H was planned for WrestleMania XXX, word is now that Triple H will be facing Daniel Bryan at WrestleMania XXX due to CM Punk’s departure.
Dave Meltzer noted on Wrestling Observer Radio that CM Punk told WWE that he was going home right before RAW started Monday night. WWE Apparently didn’t see this coming, but did expect him to leave in July when his contract expired. Punk admitted in a interview last week that “everything was up in the air” in regards to his future with WWE when his contract expires.
ProWrestling.net reports that CM Punk seemed very disinterested in the current WWE product at his Wizard World Q & A session in Portland this past Friday during Royal Rumble weekend. Punk was very upset about Batista getting the WrestleMania XXX main event. While he said he is friends with Batista he admitted that it was Daniel Bryan’s year.
Punk made the comment, “I show up. Someone tells me what to do & I just go out do it & leave.” He also implied his recent work was not good & that he was down to using two moves a match. Punk reportedly came off despondent & unhappy with WWE.
WrestlingInc.com reports that WWE has removed Punk from almost all of their upcoming live events & television tapings on the events section of their website, although he remains on the Elimination Chamber page. It is not known if Punk is injured or if something else is going on.
Here is the last tweet from Punk on Monday night.
Thanks for all the support. Keep being you guys, it's pretty cool.
