Bully Ray Gives His Thoughts On Randy Orton’s SmackDown Live Promo

Randy Orton took the microphone this week on SmackDown Live and cut a promo on the fans blaming them for his heel turn. He inserted real-life issues in his promo as well which amplified his point.

Orton created controversy last year when he commented on a meme chastising indie wrestling. The gist of the message was indie wrestling follows a formula and consists of one dive after another with little selling. The Viper was sure to mention that he doesn’t do any dives and questioned if this was why fans weren’t drawn to him during his promo this week.

Bully Ray was impressed when he watched Orton’s promo on SmackDown this week. The WWE Hall Of Famer discussed Orton’s segment on Busted Open Radio and praised the way he utilized his time. The third-generation Superstar utilized his words and tone to make the segment even more believable, but the success of his promo was a combination of many factors.

“I enjoyed a variety of things on SmackDown starting out with Orton’s promo which I think he knocked out of the park,” Bully Ray said. “I think he did a great job with it and it was a lot of things. It was the words he was saying and it was also the tone in his voice, the inflection in his voice and the way he delivered it.”

Orton’s promo on SmackDown Live touched on several aspects of the professional wrestling business. He gave fans a rare glimpse backstage as he discussed some issues seldom addressed on television.

Orton even took a shot at The Bullet Club, saying, “I’m not some indie darling that competed in run-down bingo halls and I didn’t steal some sweet hand gesture either.”

Bully went on to discuss the crowd’s reaction and how their silence was due more to anticipation than disinterest. This was a real moment in professional wrestling where Orton was able to exhibit his skills on the microphone. Orton created an honest moment on SmackDown Live where he genuinely seemed upset which only helped sell the angle even more.

“Randy Orton believed everything he was saying last night,” Bully Ray continued. “If you listened to the reaction of the people, there was hush over the crowd. That hush wasn’t that they were disinterested. It was a hush like, ‘oh my god Randy does sound pissed off and it sounds like he’s about to take out all his frustrations out on a lot of different people.”

Bully Ray appeared on Monday’s episode of Busted Open on Sirius XM and provided an update on his health after being taken to the emergency room after last Friday’s ROH Death Before Dishonorpay-per-view. Ray went to the hospital after the table shot below from Jay Briscoe:

The following day, Tommy Dreamer tweeted that he spent the night with Ray, and that he was “concerned for him.”

Ray also tweeted on Saturday, saying that he was having a rough day:

On Busted Open, Bully Ray did not sound well. Co-host David LaGreca noted that Ray didn’t even sound like his usual self and Ray stated that part of the reason is because the doctors have told him to try and not get excited or be around anything too loud. He said that he doesn’t remember much from the match and that it has been a very rough couple days since then, especially trying to get back home.

When asked about his future in professional wrestling and whether or not he will have any concerns going forward regarding his health Bully said, “so much so that I’m not even sure if my career should continue.”

Bully Ray Done With TNA

PWInsider reports that Bully Ray, who just returned to TNA as it’s authority figure, is already gone from the company.

PWInsider says that Bully told TNA he was finished and wanted to distance himself from the brand. Bull supposedly wasn’t happy with the current state of affairs in TNA. Bully had been working on a per-appearance deal.

UPDATE:

A TNA source told PWInsider that Bully couldn’t have quit, because he was never under a contract. The deal to have him as an authority figure was never a long-term idea, and that the angle had already been shot and wrapped.

Team 3D would Like To Return To WWE & Revitalize Tag Division

“Team 3D” Bully Ray and Devon recently did a interview with Sorts Illustrated’s Extra Mustard site to promote the upcoming House of Hardcore event in Toronto.

Team 3D talked about wanting to return to WWE:

Devon: “For us not to be back there, knowing that we’re in the best shape we’ve ever been in, I don’t understand it. We’re better now than we were ten or fifteen years ago. I understand that they want the future. But without the older generation that paved the way for these younger guys to come, you’re not going to have it. Wrestling is a lost art, so you need the older guys like us to help show the younger guys how it’s done. I don’t understand it, though I know it needs to be on their terms.”

Bully Ray: “Take the Dudley Boyz and put them back in WWE, and you’d add instant credibility to the tag division. The great thing about the Dudleys is we can work with any team and we can work any style. Not only will we help one team get over and learn and get better, but we can help all of them. It seems pretty simple to me – having the Dudleys back in WWE is best for business, so I don’t have a really great answer for why we are not there. Only they know. You would think the most decorated tag team in history of WWE would be able to go back into a company and breathe life into the tag division. It may never happen, but you never say never. It could be right around the corner.”

More On Bully Ray’s One-Off TNA Return, Destination America Unhappy With TNA

Dave Meltzer of The Wrestling Observer appeared on last night’s Live Audio Wrestling to talk about current issues in TNA. As noted earlier Bully Ray’s return was apparently a one-off deal. Meltzer noted that any long-term return hinges on TNA being able to give Bully a good financial deal which the company may not be in position to do right now. Bully’s big surprise return was done to help with ratings.

Meltzer noted that Destination America is having “buyer’s remorse” with their TNA deal, with the issue being with ratings and ad sales. While TNA programming does good ratings for the network, Destination America was expecting to get far more of the Spike TV viewership and thought TNA’s loyal fan base would follow them to another channel.

Bully Ray & Velvet Sky Returned To TNA Impact Wrestling

Bully Ray and Velvet Sky both made their return to TNA Impact Wrestling this past Friday on a live episode of Impact on Destination America.

It was good to see them back in TNA. I wasn’t able see Impact Friday because I don’t get Destination America on my cable, but I was able to view the show later over the weekend via On Demand.

Velvet made her return in a segment with her former BFF and partner Angelina Love. Angelina was in the ring running her mouth about how she is the greatest Knockout and how she is the only beautiful person in TNA. Angelina spotted Velvet in the crowd and asks why she is her because she was fired. Velvet had a new biker chick look with purple and red hair. Velvet was just staring at Angelina. Velvet entered the ring. Angelina tried to make nice and hugged her but Velvet wasn’t having any part of it. Angelina then accused Velvet of trying to upstage her and that Velvet is nothing without her. Velvet attacked Angelina choking her with her own hair. Security came in and pulled Velvet off of Angelina.

Billy made his return at the top of the show when Eric Young was in the ring demanding to know who the special guest referee was going to be for the TNA World Heavyweight Championship match. Bully’s music hit and he came out and delivered his classic line – “Do you know who I Am.” Bully announced that he is the special guest referee. Later during the main event, EY hit Bully with a low blow then attempted to piledrive him but Bully countered with a back drop. Bully continued to call the match fairly and eventually Kurt Angle locked in the ankle lock on EY making EY tap out. Bully raised Angle’s hand in victory.

I’m looking forward to seeing what plans TNA may have for Velvet going forward. I would like to see more of Bully in TNA but according to PWInsider, Bully’s appearance was a one-off deal and he hasn’t signed a new deal with the company. According to PWInsider, Velvet will be back in TNA on a regular basis.

Bully Ray Close To Signing Short Term TNA Deal

Bully Ray is reportedly close to signing a 2 date deal with TNA according to PWInsider. Bully’s second & final date would come on October 12th in Japan at TNA’s Bound For Glory pay-per-view, where he will be inducted into the TNA Hall of Fame along with Devon.

Devon’s last date with TNA would also be October 12th.
