AEW stars (and real life married couple) Cody and Brandi Rhodes are set to star in their very own reality show on TNT.
A trailer for the upcoming “Rhodes To The Top” aired during the latest edition of Dynamite.
AEW later released more details via a press release.
“Tonight’s action-packed episode of “AEW DYNAMITE” delivered another special announcement for soon-to-be parents Cody and Brandi Rhodes. TNT has ordered a new unscripted series, ‘Rhodes to the Top,’ from Warner Bros. Unscripted Television in association with Shed Media, that will go inside the lives of Cody and Brandi as they navigate their growing family while building AEW’s global wrestling empire,” the company said.
“Each 30-minute episode will take viewers behind-the-scenes as the powerhouse couple manage their ever-busier lives inside and outside the ring, all the while surrounded by a colorful and often hilarious motley crew of wrestlers, family and friends who both support and test them at every turn,” the release continued. “Married in 2013, Cody and Brandi have been on an unprecedented path to wrestling greatness, but will now face their newest and possibly biggest challenge yet.”
Brandi and Cody were regular cast members on the now cancelled E! reality show “WAGS Atlanta,” so this won’t be the couple’s first foray into the world of reality TV.
WarnerMedia has confirmed an official All Elite Wrestling podcast hosted by Brandi Rhodes is currently in the works.
The media company made a slew of podcast related announcements today at an upfront for advertisers and one of the things mentioned was an official AEW podcast.
According to WarnerMedia, the podcast is currently in development with the wrestling promotion’s Chief Brand Officer as host and targeted to launch by the end of the year.
No additional information on the podcast has been made available at this time.
AEW Chief Brand Officer Brandi Rhodes revealed that she gets death threats and hate messages sent to her daily on social media.
In a series of tweets, Rhodes explained that social media is just flooded with hate and people wishing others would fail, die, or likely both. She went on to say that people that have a blue check on their social media accounts get preyed on for no reason and how they can’t even defend themselves.
In her last tweet she wrote, “And people feel okay with themselves at the end of the day. You’re sad, bitter and angry at all of the wrong people. People you’ve never met. Never had a conversation with. You hate us and wish we would die. How embarrassing that must be to know how shallow and selfish you are.”
After her tweets, someone replied to her, “I’m sorry but you are the same person who does the same thing?” After that Rhodes asked the user if they could point out where she wished failure and death upon someone on here.
Below is the Twitter thread:
The climate of hate is SO strong. It’s so sad. Social media is just flooded with hate and people wishing others would fail, die or likely both. Scary how bitter people have become to spew such vile things. I feel bad and sad for humanity. Disappointing world to be apart of.
I get death threats and hate spewed at me daily. I’m not alone. If you have a blue check you are just preyed upon for no reason. You can’t even defend yourself because “you’re better than that”. Better than everyone?! Is that why we are treated this way?
And people feel okay with themselves at the end of the day. You’re sad, bitter and angry at all of the wrong people. People you’ve never met. Never had a conversation with. You hate us and wish we would die. How embarrassing that must be to know how shallow and selfish you are.
Yesterday was a historic day in the world of professional wrestling as it was officially announced that AEW will be airing in prime time on TNT later this year. With the deal, AEW has become the first wrestling company outside of WWE to secure a television deal in the U.S. on a top 25 cable network since WCW folded.
At yesterday’s WarnerMedia upfronts in New York City, AEW Executive Vice President Cody Rhodes and Chief Branding Officer Brandi Rhodes spoke with WrestlingNews.co about the big announcement.
“This is serendipity how this is coming together,” Cody said. “My family moved to Atlanta 20+ years ago because WCW was going to Turner. Here we are talking about All Elite Wrestling in 2019 going to Turner. It’s just wild how it works and the number 1 thing I discovered is we build the best team. That’s what led to all of this. All In happened, me, Matt and Nick, Kenny joining and then Tony Khan being the guy to say ‘hey, I believe in you guys. I’ll invest in you guys, I believe in wrestling outside of one company.’ That has put us here so I’m really excited.”
AEW plans to offer a real alternative to WWE programming. One of the major criticisms about WWE has been their scripted promos. Cody claimed that “you might not see one scripted promo” on their television.
“When it comes to promos, if we invested you, we already know your voice,” Cody said. “We just want to put the voice out there for more people to hear. There’s great coaches we have, great collaborators. Guys like Jim Ross, guys like Billy Gunn, a bunch of guys I can’t name. We have these great collaborators, plus all of us who want to make this work. Collaboration yes, micromanagement no, scripted no, that’s the best.”
“We’re honest when we say that we want it to be very sports-centric,” Brandi added. “In order to do that, it has to be focused on the bell-to-bell, the actual matches, less of the drama and the behind-the-scenes.”
Brandi also said that the company plans to keep their roster active and not sitting on the sidelines.
“We’ve obviously been cautious in building our [women’s] division because we don’t want people to be sitting weeks and weeks out of the year not being active, not being used, not being having stories, not having reasons for you to like them,” Brandi stated. “So we’ve been very careful to pick and choose competitors that we think we are gonna be able to keep moving in some sort of sense.”
Despite all of the major developments, AEW has yet to run their first show. AEW’s first pay-per-view, Double Or Nothing, will take place next Saturday night in Las Vegas. Cody said that the company plans to make the event a great one.
“Jim Ross has been really good about saying ‘it can’t be good, it’s gotta be great.’ He’s right and everyone in the group shares that sentiment,” Cody said. “We gotta make this great and it’s just the beginning. It’s the perfect jumping in point for a brand new fan. There’s nothing before this, just jump in now and you’ll love it.”
On the latest Road to Double or Nothing it was announced former Impact Knockouts Champion Allie has signed with AEW. The above video features Allie meeting with Brandi Rhodes and getting ideas for her new wrestling gear with former WWE seamstress, Sandra Gray.
Allie spoke about how she first got into wrestling and how she’s looking forward to working with All Elite Wrestling.
“Going forward, I really want to make my mark here at AEW,” Allie said. “I feel like even though I’ve had those opportunities, I feel like now I really want to show people what I can do and I don’t know if I had that chance before.”
Allie originally appeared in Impact back in 2013 and signed a contract with them in 2016. Allie has already finished up with Impact Wrestling, according to PWInsider. Allie’s last appearance will air on tomorrow’s episode of Impact. The report stated she knew back in January the company wouldn’t be renewing her deal as they look to refresh the roster. Allie was said to be well liked and ended up keeping the news mostly to herself, so when yesterday’s signing broke that would be when many in Impact were made aware of her exit.
The video below also showed Brandi talking about the design for a new AEW championship title. She noted it will be as large as the Mid-South North American Championship. They are looking to make it unique to AEW, but the size will be in the same ballpark, below is a photo of what the Mid-South North American Championship looked like.
Brandi Rhodes injured her collarbone wrestling in Japan.
Brandi tweeted:
Unfortunately I suffered a shoulder injury during my tour in Japan. I’ll admit my first thought was “time to go home”. However, my second thought was, “how can I fight with one (left) arm?” I figured it out and competed in 2 more tag matches w/ Oedo Tai. I love wrestling. pic.twitter.com/kgqrINLBEG
According to Cody he injury, which is a broken clavicle, will require surgery to fix two separate fractures.
Cody tweeted:
Just left the hospital. Long story short…Brandi Rhodes went to Japan and wrestled 4 matches, 2 with a broken clavicle. 2 separate fractures. She'll need surgery due the bone poking into the muscle.
Pro Wrestling Sheet reports Brandi Rhodes will be appearing as a cast member with ROH champ Cody on a Atlanta spinoff of the popular reality series WAGS.
Production sources say Brandi will be heavily featured in the upcoming season of WAGS Atlanta and her husband Cody Rhodes has been involved in the filming as well.
Her wrestling career will be one of the focal points of Brandi’s story arc and they recently filmed her match against Kelly Klein at the ROH tapings which took place at Center Stage.
If you do some further digging on social media, you’ll notice a not-fully official “Wags Tea” account has started commenting on her Instagram photos as well.
On Friday it was TMZ and TMZ Sports breaking the news that Brandi Rhodes had signed with Impact Wrestling. News spread all throughout the weekend and TMZ Sports even discussed this situation on Fox Sports 1. Earlier today the news became official.
Brandi Rhodes is a Knockout. In an exclusive interview with the voice of Impact Wrestling, Josh Mathews, Brandi talked about the process and how it feels to be a Knockout now competing on Thursday nights inside our six sided ring.
Brandi is no stranger to the bright lights of a thrilling wrestling event, but now Brandi will be in the action competing with the likes of Gail Kim, Madison Rayne, Sienna and Jade and looking to test herself against the best.
We look forward to the debut of Brandi Rhodes in the coming weeks on Impact Wrestling.
According to TMZ Sports, the former WWE ring announcer has signed a deal to wrestle for the promotion’s Knockouts division. No word yet on when she will be making herImpact Wrestling debut.
Brandi has been training at a wrestling school in Texas and even got physical with Crazy Mary Dobson at an independent show last week.
