Lita, Gail Kim And Christy Hemme Launch Kickstarter For Dramatic Wrestling Pilot

Lita, Gail Kim and Christy Hemme have launched a Kickstarter to raise money to produce a pilot for a new show inspired by true events which blends scripted drama with pro wrestling.

In a video announcement on the page, the three wrestling stars explain the series is “about women, made by women” and will give them a chance to tell their stories.

“But this is still truly a wrestling show with some of the best talent in the world,” Hemme added while noting the show would feature in-ring action.

The press release further explains:

Part TV drama, part wrestling promotion, the show will effectively demolish the fourth wall between characters and audience for a viewing experience that wrestling fans have never seen before. In a traditionally male-dominated industry, KAYFABE is a dramatization and collection of female stories inspired by real life events.

“I think KAYFABE is a great feminist story about a group of empowered women who have—in the most literal sense you could imagine—taken control of their own narratives,” said Hemme, a fan favorite who wrestled for both Impact Wrestling and WWE.

Named after the wrestling craft term that refers to the strict manner in which performers were once forbidden from breaking character or sharing industry secrets, KAYFABE is the perfect name for the new show, which will be taking that term and turning it on its head.

“All the stories we’ll be presenting in this show are something that, in one way or another, happened in real life,” said Kim, a one-time WWE Diva and recent inductee to the Impact Wrestling Hall of Fame.

The producers—who all enjoyed storied careers in professional wrestling and each command a sizable and fervent following—have taken to Kickstarter to fund the creation of a pilot in an attempt to bring their vision to life without compromise. In addition to their on-screen careers, all three also share extensive backgrounds behind the camera – Kim being the first female wrestling agent in Impact Wrestling, Hemme becoming the first female talent to join the Impact creative team as director of the women’s division and Dumas, as the first female to become a producer for WWE.

Additional wrestling-related talent working on the show include:

  • Jimmy Jacobs
  • Former WWE writer Tom Casiello
  • Stunt coordinator Chavo Guerrero
  • David Sahadi, who worked in WWE and Impact
  •  Impact star Alisha Edwards

The project is looking to raise $400,000 by April 7 to get the pilot funded.

WWE Hall of Famer Lita is currently scheduled to face Mickie James at WWE Evolution next month, but the former WWE Women’s Champion made an unadvertised appearance at MCW’s Tag Wars event in Joppa, Maryland.

PWInsider first reported that Amy “Lita” Dumas was in Hunt Valley, MD for an autograph signing at the Monster Mania horror convention, and the WWE legend made a surprise appearance at the MCW event, during the six-man tag team match involving MCW Pro Wrestling Heavyweight Champion Dante Caballero and The Guns 4 Hire, as they faced the team of Joe Keys, Bishop Khan and Malcolm Moses.

In the video below, referees were incapacitated following a series of referee bumps, Lita came out in a referee shirt, and got into an altercation with Dante Caballero after a near fall. This led to Lita dropping the MCW Pro Wrestling Heavyweight Champion with the Twist of Fate, resulting in Joe Keys’ team picking up the win.

WWE Hall Of Famer Lita Calls Greatest Royal Rumble A ‘Direct Conflict Of Interest’ (Audio)

lita wwe greatest royal rumble conflict of interest

Lita is the first female WWE Hall of Famer to criticize the company for putting on a show in Saudi Arabia where women weren’t allowed to wrestle … calling it a “direct conflict of interest.”

WrestleZone‘s Nick Hausman interviewed Lita, aka Amy Dumas, ahead of her upcoming UFO show debuting online tonight and when asked for her opinion on Greatest Royal Rumble said:

“I understand that they are a business, a global business, and always looking to expand their global presence. However, I do feel it’s a direct conflict of interest with them maintaining any integrity or truth to the fact that they say they would like to push forward women and their roles and their representation in the industry as anything remotely resembling an equal to a male.”

Lita added:

“Make the money, that’s fine, but don’t try to cover it up and be like, “No, we are doing this because we would like to in the future be able to help progress their culture forward!” No, you wanted the money and that’s fine. You’re a business and businesses make money. That’s okay. From your perspective over there, I don’t own your business, so that’s ok. But, from a PR perspective, don’t try to be like “We’re doing it because we want to help progress that culture forward.” No, it’s a direct conflict of interest, in my opinion.”

A Man ‘Fixated’ With Female Wrestler Shot By Officer At WWE Performance Center

A man “fixated” with a female wrestler, believed to be WWE Hall of Famer Lita (Amy Dumas), to the extent that a court order had been obtained against him, though he hadn’t been served it yet, was shot Monday by a sheriff’s officer outside the WWE Performance Center in Orlando, Florida.

Lita wasn’t at the Performance Center at the time of the shooting.

The 29 year old man identified as Armando Alejandro Montalvo underwent surgery after what sheriff Jerry Demings described as life-threatening injuries.

According to the Orange County sheriff, two plainclothes officers responded around 1:30 p.m. to a call from a manager at the Performance Center that a man had come in and created “a commotion.” At the time, WWE staff told authorities the man “had some type of knife.”

So when the two officers arrived, they drew their weapons, fearful the man might go after them, police said.

And while it wasn’t clear if he was armed the man did charge at one of the officers in the parking lot. “And so the deputy retreats,” Demings said. The officer “was running backward trying to create distance between he and the subject, and ultimately the subject closes within just a few feet of him. And he fired the shot.”

Triple H tweeted the following about the incident:

Montalvo had confronted Orange County sheriff deputies in the past. Montalvo was arrested back on August 4th at the Performance Center when he had a sign that said “Lita I Love You”, a chair and binoculars.

A deputy wrote that when he was taking the man away by police that day, the man “kept asking if I saw Lita while I was inside the WWE building. Armando kept stating that he loves Lita and that she is attractive. Armando also kept laughing and stating that what was happening is awesome.”

Ed’s Perspective: WWE Class of 2014 Hall of Fame Makes Me Very Happy!

Lita

Take a look at those 4 pictures. There really isn’t a lot I can write that hasn’t already been said about the current 2014 WWE Hall of Fame inductees. I’m sitting at my computer, looking at these 4 and I can’t find words that do them justice.

Amazing, outstanding, trail-blazer, superstar, diva……… nope, none of them come close.

Fortunately for me, I will be co-hosting a special live show on DTRT Wrestling Radio while I watch the Hall of Fame ceremony live on the WWE Network. I know this, it will be very hard to be Ed the journalist and not Ed the fan.
