Alberto Del Rio was reportedly involved in a backstage fight at Arena Naucalpan in Mexico this weekend, according to @Luchablog. Del Rio and Paige were in attendance for an IWRG show, likely to watch his brother wrestle in the main event.
While backstage, local lucha star Alan Xtreme (Rafy of Ninja Turtles) was nearby and while what happened next isn’t clear, it’s believed Del Rio thought Alan touched him or touched Paige. The two started hitting each other and a brawl broke out, spilling over into a hallway that connects the locker room to a fan entrance way. Many fans witnessed what happened. No word yet on Del Rio’s status after the fight but Alan’s face was said to be marked up. Luchaworld reports that Alan is in bad shape but stable condition.
Luchablog also reported that Paige and Del Rio were seen drinking before the fight.
After much speculation, The Bullet Club revealed its newest member. Bullet Club leader Kenny Omega made the announcement at the NJPW World Tag Team Finals on Saturday that former WWE superstar Cody Rhodes is the newest member of the faction.
Cody was dubbed “The American Nightmare” and the video package featuring him also indicated that Cody would probably be appearing at Wrestle Kingdom 11. The event takes place at the Tokyo Dome on January 4th.
Cody made his first comments after the reveal on his Twitter with the following post:
Independent standout Chris Hero is reportedly “heading back” to WW. The current plan is for the man formerly known as Kassius Ohno to re-join the NXT brand.
Pro Wrestling Sheet says sources tell them thatthe current consensus behind the scenes seems to be that he’ll go back to using the KO name and this will be a continuation of his former character.
According to the Observer, Hero would still need to pass medical tests before his deal is finalized.
TNA creative head Jeremy Borash spoke with Sports Illustrated recently and discussed Hardys, Tag team Apocalypto and more. Below are some highlights.
The Hardys:
“TNA has had hundreds of talents come through over its history and Matt and Jeff are in a virtual tie for most uniquely gifted performers I’ve ever worked with. Jeff has always been a rock star. His creativity frightens me, like a Jim Morrison, Evel Knievel, and Andy Warhol lovechild. Matt’s “Broken Brilliance” only manifested this year and he has been called the most captivatingly innovative performer to come along in years. The combination of the two, a drone, a gardener, and an incredibly gifted wife and future king have turned the Hardys into television’s modern day Addams Family.”
Tag Team Apocalypto:
“Tag Team Apocalypto will be the most amazing match ever presented on television. Bold statement. Different than anything you’ve ever seen. Wrestling as we know it needs to evolve with the rest of entertainment, and this will be looked back at someday as a game changer. Early screeners have left people stunned. Books may be written on this match. With the secluded nature of our shooting, there will be a number of talents showing up you would never expect. Going to reserve comment regarding any specific contractual agreements at this time.”
Total Non-Stop Deletion being special:
“The buzz surrounding the “Final Deletion” landed Matt Hardy on every wrestler of the year award list. Promoting a show on his own compound and injecting guys like Lashley and Eddie Edwards into that unique world, not to mention any number of unexpected guests, Matt Hardy had a premonition that Total Nonstop Deletion will be his Citizen Kane.”
Borash also talked about being a live event host for Robert Irvine and more. You can read the full interview here.
Pro Wrestling Sheet reports that Silas Young just signed a new 1-year contract with Ring of Honor.
Young says the deal has now been finalized and it allows him to continue taking bookings with companies outside of the United States, as long as it doesn’t interfere with ROH.
The Last Real Man adds, “It will be weird to not be wrestling every weekend, but after almost 15 years it will be nice to spend some weekends with my family and let the body rest some.”
Silas announced in July that his previous deal had expired and it was reported that the two sides were in talks. No word on what took so long for the two to hammer things out.
Young says he will be fulfilling bookings that were made prior to his signing.
Billy Corgan’s lawsuit against TNA parent company Impact Ventures, TNA Wrestling, President Dixie Carter, her husband Serg Salinas and CFO Dean Broadhead was officially dismissed by the Chancery Court in Nashville, TN on December 5th, according to PWInsider. The suit was dismissed at Corgan’s request following the financial settlement with Anthem Sports & Entertainment, parent company of The Fight Network. Chancellor Ellen Hobbs Lyle ruled that Corgan would be responsible for paying all court costs and that the lawsuit was dismissed without prejudice. Corgan is free to re-file the lawsuit at a later date.
