Impact Wrestling Announces First TV Tapings In Mexico

Impact Wrestling is heading south of the border, as the company announced their first set of television tapings in Mexico will take place next month.

The tapings were announced in a press release:

IMPACT Wrestling today announced television tapings will take place on Thursday, Sept. 13 and Friday, Sept. 14 at Frontón México in Mexico City, Mexico, marking the first time the flagship weekly show IMPACT! will emanate from south of the border.

“We are excited about this historic trip to Mexico as we continue to expand our live event schedule globally,” said IMPACT Wrestling president Ed Nordholm. “We look forward to working closely with our promotional partners at Lucha Libre AAA and our broadcast partner 52MX to bring an unforgettable experience to our passionate fan base in Mexico heading into the final stretch for Bound for Glory this October.”

Wrestlers teased for the event include Austin Aries, Johnny Impact, Eli Drake, Moose, Eddie Edwards, Sami Callihan, Pentagon Jr. and Fenix.

Jeff Jarrett Files Lawsuit Against Anthem Sports

Jeff Jarrett and Global Force Entertainment Inc. have filed a copyright infringement lawsuit against Anthem Sports and Entertainment alleging the GFW merger never went through and Impact has been wrongfully making money off their IP.

Pro Wrestling Sheet obtained the full lawsuit — which was first reported on by PWInsider — in which Jarrett/GFW claim discussions to merge GFW into Anthem began in December ’16.

In May ’17, the two sides signed a term sheet regarding Jarrett’s employment as Chief Creative Officer of Anthem Wrestling and for the GFW merger. The term sheet, however, allegedly said GFE would retain all rights to the show they filmed called Amped.

Five months later, Jeff Jarrett was released from his position.

As we previously reported, Jarrett was fired from Impact Wrestling while on a leave of absence. The next day a promoter in Canada accused him of passing out in the locker room due to drinking, then insisting on wrestling a match.

Jeff subsequently entered rehab and months later was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame.

In the lawsuit documents, Jarrett and co. claim the merger was never officially completed yet Anthem “reproduced, distributed, publicly displayed, offered for sale, and sold the GFW Amped content without providing any compensation or royalties to GFE or Mr. Jarrett.”

Global Force Entertainment also has an issue with Impact’s Global Wrestling Network, pointing to the similarity of the logos and claiming Anthem doesn’t have a license to show the Amped footage.

GFE is seeking “an award of punitive and/or treble damages for at least three times the amount of Defendants’ profits or GFE’s damages, whichever is greater, due to the nature of Defendants’ wanton and willful conduct.”

They also want all copies of GFW content erased/deleted from Anthem’s archive.

Backstage News On Chris Jericho Being ‘Destined’ For Impact Wrestling

Chris Jericho is from Winnipeg along with other names from professional wrestling, and he might have more interest in Impact Wrestling now that they’re a Canadian-based company owned by one of his personal friends.

WrestlingINC reported last week, via The Wrestling Observer, that Jericho used his Winnipeg connection to help Anthem Sports owner Leonard Asper figure out what he should do about Impact Wrestling’s management. Jericho suggested Don Callis for the role, and he was also instrumental in helping Scott D’Amore receive a promotion. Jericho said that the company had previously been run by snakes and needed to put someone in charge who they could trust.

Jericho had teased last month that he would “of course” consider signing with Impact Wrestling. Meltzer reported in the latest issue of The Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the belief in the business now is that Jericho “is destined” to go to Impact Wrestling. He added that Jericho’s idea he once had of not upsetting Vince McMahon “isn’t nearly as strong as it was months ago.”

Jericho spoke about the idea of not wrestling for other promotions in the United States during a July interview with Inside The Ropes.

“It’s not a matter of just going out and doing indies – and like I said – I always felt like the unwritten rule is I don’t want to go into the states,” Jericho said. “I felt like that would be a real slap in the face of Vince [McMahon].

“Ya know if something ever went down with us, I probably would do a show in the states and we could probably fill the Cow Palace. Jericho and Kenny [Omega] rematch, or whatever it may be. “All In” I’d love to be a part of that, but ‘A’ it’s in Chicago and ‘B’…at the risk sounding like an asshole, but I can’t lower my value by working one of these shows. It’s about picking my spots with the right guys at the right places for the overall contract I’m signing.”

John Hennigan Injured During Photo Shoot

Impact Wrestling and Luchaground star John Hennigan (a.k.a Johnny Impact, Johnny Mundo, John Morrison) revealed on his Instagram that he suffered a dislocated elbow during a photo-shoot for Muscle & Fitness this week. Johnny wrote that he was apparently performing parkour when he fell and dislocated his elbow. He wrote, “turns out baby oil and parkour don’t mix well.”

WWE Interested In Pentagon Jr. & Fenix

WWE officials have made overtures to Fenix and Pentagon Jr., according to The Wrestling Observer Newsletter. The brothers currently hold the MLW Tag Team Titles and the PWG World Tag Team Titles as Los Lucha Brothers. They have also been performing for Impact Wrestling. Pentagon held the Impact World Championship earlier this year.

There’s no word yet on what came of the feelers but word is that both wrestlers still have three seasons left on their current contracts with Lucha Underground.

It was recently revealed that WWE has interest in another former Lucha Underground champion, Angelico. WWE has had interest in Angelico on & off for years now but the big hold-up was his Lucha Underground contract, which is no longer an issue.

Rich Swann has been pulled from tonight’s Slammiversary PPV due to a concussion he sustained during a Major League Wrestling event on Thursday night. Swann was originally scheduled to be in a Four-Way Match against Johnny Impact, Ishimori, and Rey Fenix.

According to F4WOnline, Swann had a rough spot during his MLW match where he hit his head on a guardrail. He was taken to the hospital and released later that same night.

Post-match, Edwards goes to hit Dreamer with a kendo stick, but decides to help him up. Dreamer gets a kendo stick and holds out his hand. He doesn’t want to, but his wife Alisha Edwards comes out and tells him to shake his hand. He does, points the kendo stick to Edwards, hands it off (like a passing of the torch), and Alisha heads to the back by herself.

Pentagon clips off Callihan’s hair and shaves his head. Crowd with a “Shave his beard!” chant, “No!” Callihan yells.

Impact announced Bound For Glory will be on October 14 in New York City.
