Alberto El Patron has had a storm of controversy around him for the past two weeks … and now he plans to step down as President of MMA company Combate Americas amidst the chaos.

Combate Americas CEO Campbell McLaren confirmed the news in an interview with MMAUno … but claims the decision was made because Patron wants to focus on wrestling.

McLaren explained, “I think he’s reaching a point in his career when he knows that the physical demands of wrestling are not what he wants to continue doing, but I think he knows he’s got a couple of years still left to keep maintaining his level of performance.”

He also emphasized that Patron will still be at Combate events.

Alberto is currently under investigation by the Orlando PD for a domestic battery incident involving his fiancé Paige, despite police already suggesting that she be charged with battery.

Former TNA World Champion Magnus is no longer with Global Force Wrestling, according to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.

The report states Magnus, whose real name is Nick Aldis, turned down GFW’s latest contract offer. He reportedly worked the most-recent television tapings in Orlando, Florida under a handshake deal so the company could “protect the lineage of the GFW title,” which he lost to Alberto El Patron.

The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that most of the new contracts GFW has signed with talent gives them ten percent of the independent date money the talent makes. In addition, it’s reported talent doesn’t get a cut of merchandise sold with their likeness if it’s sold directly by GFW.

Magnus first signed with TNA Wrestling in 2008. In 2015, he was one of the first talents Global Force Wrestling announced they had signed and that he was going to work under his real name. This was obviously before the merger between TNA and GFW.

In addition to being a one-time TNA World Champion and one-time GFW Global Champion, Magnus has had success internationally, holding titles in New Japan Pro Wrestling and Pro Wrestling Noah. When TNA did their partnership with Ring Ka King in India, Magnus held their world title.

Gail Kim’s New Role In GFW Revealed, Two New Female Signings Teased

Jeremy Borash did a media conference call on Wednesday, where he revealed Gail Kim will be transitioning to a behind the scenes role in Global Force Wrestling.

“This may be known but we are happy to have on board as an agent for Impact Wrestling, who will be helping with our Knockouts, Gail Kim. Who announced that she would be retiring at the end of this year,” said Borash.

“So she’s going to be taking on a more behind-the-scenes role. Everybody may not know but Gail and I had a very strong friendship for the last decade,” JB continued. “I obviously do stuff with her husband Robert Irvine, the chef. And she has an incredible mind and really somebody that’s going to take the Knockouts to the next level. So she’s in Orlando and Tampa training gals that you’re seeing.”

Borash also teased that GFW have signed two new girls that are known but did not reveal any further details.

JB noted that this week’s episode of Impact Wrestling will open with a fantastic Super X-Cup Match. He said this week’s show “kicks ass” and we’re really seeing an evolution of talent, guys that can really go in the ring.

Rey Mysterio Reportedly Has Contract Offer ‘In His Hands’ From GFW

Rey Mysterio was in Nashville, TN on Monday night to visit with his WWE friends who were in town for RAW, according to PWInsider.

According to the report, Mysterio met with Global Force Wrestling officials earlier in the day to discuss a deal that would bring him to Global Force Wrestling. Exact details of the meeting were not immediately available but PWInsider reported that Mysterio “has a contract offer in his hands.” Mysterio was in town with his long-time friend Konnan.

As noted, Mysterio is under contract with Lucha Underground through the end of season three, which will air in September. He’ll be a free agent after that but has a 90-day non-compete agreement attached to his deal.

Sports Illustrated first reported GFW’s interest in Mysterio, also noting WWE was hoping to bring him back.

Paige’s Family’s Promotion Strips Alberto El Patron Of Their Title, Doesn’t Mention Him In Statement

Alberto El Patron has been stripped of the WAW Undisputed World Heavyweight Championship. The title is the top belt of the World Association of Wrestling, which is owned by Ricky Knight, the real-life father of El Patron’s girlfriend Paige.

Below is the official statement regarding the title:

The WAW Undisputed World Heavyweight Championship has been declared vacant at last night’s Academy Show in Costessey, following a unanimous decision by the WAW Championship Committee. The WAWCC’s decision was announced by Zak Knight but no information was revealed regarding the crowning of a new champion. Since the announcement several individuals have announced their desire to compete for the title. Both European Heavyweight Champion Robin Lekime and British Heavyweight Champion Aaron Sharp have already revealed their desire to add more gold to their repertoire, as well as former World Heavyweight Champion Brad Slayer and former European Heavyweight Champion King Kendo. With four of WAW’s top competitors already eyeing up the most prestigious title will anyone else step forward in the hope of gaining public support?A 32 man tournament has been announced to determine a new Undisputed World Heavyweight Champion over the course of the rest of 2017 with the final taking place at Epic Studios, Norwich in December. The entrants into this tournament will be deliberated by the WAWCC over the coming weeks before brackets are announced.

It’s of note that Alberto isn’t even mentioned in the statement. This comes more than a week after an incident between El Patron and Paige at the Orlando International Airport.

Paige’s brother, Zak, stated on Facebook he’s worried about his sister and accused El Patron of domestic battery. El Patron is currently suspended indefinitely from Global Force Wrestling.

While no criminal charges have been filed, Alberto El Patron was detained by police just over one week ago at the Orlando International Airport. There have been varying accounts of what happened but recordings released by TMZ seem to indicate some type of domestic incident.

A witness told Heavy.com that the couple were arguing on the airport tram system, with Paige screaming at El Patron that he had been doing cocaine for “two days straight” and she called him abusive. There were also claims El Patron smelled like alcohol.

Rey Mysterio Negotiating Return To WWE, Also In Talks With GFW

Rey Mysterio is currently negotiating with WWE and Global Force Wrestling, according to Sports Illustrated.

Mysterio is under contract with Lucha Underground through the end of season three, which will air in September. He’ll be a free agent after that but has a 90-day non-compete agreement attached to his deal.

WWE is still searching for a big Latino star after failing to replace Mysterio in the first place. GFW had been pushing Alberto El Patron, who has had a lot of negative press from his tumultuous relationship with Paige. The current GFW World Heavyweight Champion is suspended indefinitely following a domestic dispute with Paige at the Orlando airport last week.

Mysterio, 42, left WWE in February 2015 but has been open to the idea of returning for over a year. His son, Dominick, is looking to follow in his father’s footsteps so Mysterio could opt to return to WWE in hopes that it helps his son’s future.

Lucha Underground could look to retain Mysterio but will likely have a difficult time out-biding WWE should they decide they want to bring him back. They have also not announced plans for a fourth season.

Jeff Jarrett Says GFW Is Looking At Taking PPVs On The Road, Will Add Another PPV To Their Lineup

Jeff Jarrett did a media conference call earlier this week to address a number of topics involving Global Force Wrestling. WrestlingINC.com owner Raj Giri was on the call and asked Jarrett if GFW had discussed moving pay-per-views out of the Impact Zone in Orlando, Florida.

“It has to make financial sense,” Jarrett said. “It goes without saying that, you know, taking Impact on the road several years ago was a financial disaster and so you have to methodically look at every decision and make sure that it makes financial sense.”

The then-branded TNA Wrestling saw growth from 2008 to 2009 before taking Impact on the road in 2010. They have tried to regain traction ever since.

“But you know, we’re going to start with our live events and again, I’ll say put our toe back in the water. We realize that we’re not going to put an event on sale and it’s going to go clean and sellout. Quite frankly, the WWE doesn’t do that for live events. But they’re out there, they’re touring. An organization, publicly traded, been around 50-plus years, so they’re brand awareness in every market they go they don’t have that situation.”

Jarrett explained that GFW has to build brand awareness, so it’s important to get back out in key markets.

“We’re obviously in a re-branding situation in every sense of the word,” said Jarrett. “And so we’re getting back out in the markets and we’ve got to make the right decisions. That’s why we’re excited to partner with NOAH, partner with AAA, get into these markets.”

Jarrett then revealed that they do plan on taking pay-per-views out of the Impact Zone and to add one more pay-per-view next year.

“Raj, to go back to answer your question, absolutely we’re looking at taking [pay-per-views on the road],” Jarrett said. “Not just Bound For Glory, but we’re looking at adding another live pay-per-view to our schedule in 2018.”
