Tonight’s WWE SmackDown on FOX will take place from the Intrust Bank Arena in Wichita, Kansas with fallout from Thursday’s WWE Crown Jewel event.
WWE is hyping that a new era of SmackDown will begin tonight as changes from the 2021 WWE Draft officially go into effect today. Several new blue brand Superstars will be featured on tonight’s show, including Drew McIntyre, The New Day, Jeff Hardy, Hit Row, Ridge Holland, Shayna Baszler, Sheamus, Xia Li, Shotzi Blackheart, Ricochet, Mansoor, Mustafa Ali, MACE, Jinder Mahal, Shanky, The Viking Raiders, Humberto Carrillo, Angel Garza, Aliyah, Drew Gulak, and RAW Women’s Champion Charlotte Flair. It will be interesting to see if WWE swaps the women’s titles between Flair and SmackDown Women’s Champion Becky Lynch, who is now on RAW.
WWE is also teasing Brock Lesnar for tonight’s SmackDown. WWE noted after Crown Jewel how Lesnar was heard saying he planned to beat WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns senseless as soon as he got to the show tonight.
WWE has not announced any matches for tonight’s SmackDown as of this writing.
WWE referee Jessika Carr made history at yesterday’s WWE Crown Jewel event from Mohammed Abdu Arena on The Boulevard in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Carr worked two matches on the Crown Jewel card – the Hell In a Cell opener between Seth Rollins and the winner, WWE Hall of Famer Edge, plus the King of the Ring Tournament finals between Finn Balor and King Xavier Woods.
With the matches, Carr became the first female referee to call a WWE match in the Kingdom.
Carr tweeted on the opportunity and said she was blown away.
“I am so blown away at the opportunity that I was blessed with tonight. Thank you #CrownJewel I’ll absolutely share more of this in the days to come,” Carr wrote.
Carr was covered up in her referee gear, due to local religious laws, as were the female Superstars competing on the show – Doudrop, Queen Zelina Vega, SmackDown Women’s Champion Becky Lynch, Sasha Banks, and Bianca Belair. Natalya was also covered up for her in-ring segment with Titus O’Neil as they presented four breast cancer survivors for Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Natalya responded to Carr’s tweet and wrote, “I am so proud of you @WWELadyRefJess. You’re truly a history maker!!!!!!!!!!! [zebra emoji] [two hearts emoji]”
Carr wrote back, “Love you Nattie [blue heart emoji]”
After a brief stint on the indies as a wrestler, WWE signed Carr to a deal in 2017, to work as the first female WWE referee since the 1980s. The first full-time female WWE referee in history came to the main roster from WWE NXT in December 2019.

WWE Hall of Famer “Hacksaw” Jim Duggan underwent an emergency surgery this morning.
Duggan’s wife Debra took to Facebook this morning and posted a photo of her husband in the hospital, noting that he was undergoing an emergency operation for an undisclosed issue.
“Back where we don’t want to be. Please pray for Jim and his doctors as he has emergency surgery this morning. Thank you, Debra,” she wrote.
The 67 year old Duggan has dealt with multiple health issues in recent years, and underwent a heart procedure in March 2019. He was also hospitalized in September 2019. Hacksaw appeared on The Wrestling Inc. Daily in January 2020 and said he was doing great after health issues the previous year, and dropped around 40 pounds after listening to his doctor. He also said at that time that he had wrestled his last match.
Duggan appeared to be in great spirits at the Hero Con in Ft. Myers, Florida this past weekend, as seen in the Facebook posts below.
