Impact Wrestling Features Released WWE Superstars In Slammiversary PPV Promo Video

Impact Wrestling released a new Slammiversary PPV video Tuesday night which starts out with someone in a hood pouring a drink into a glass and watching a “You’re Fired breaking news report” about over 20 plus superstars released from contracts amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.

The video shows brief clips of Eric Young, Luke Gallows, Karl Anderson, Rockstar Spud (Drake Maverick), Curt Hawkins, Mike Bennett, Maria Kanellis and EC3. There was also an apparent reference to Rusev as the Bulgarian flag was shown.

These wrestlers’ that appeared in the video are all under a 90-day non-compete clause with WWE so none of them can legally negotiate with another promotion until early July.

It should be noted, however, that each wrestlers’ non-compete clauses expire just a few days before the Slammiversary pay-per-view.

This year’s IMPACT Slammiversary takes place, live Sunday, July 18.  A location for the event has yet to be announced.

Rockstar Spud To WWE Update

Rockstar Spud is confirmed to be signing with WWE, PWInsider reported yesterday. As expected, he is pegged to be a part of the Cruiserweight division on 205 Live. Spud had been rumored to be joining 205 Live following his Impact Wrestling release. New details recently emerged on the former X Division Champion’s departure from Impact Wrestling.

In the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer stated that Spud’s release was not due to budget cuts within Impact Wrestling, but rather because Spud asked for it. Apparently there was a problem with his work visa, and with the current policies that are being enforced under the Trump administration it became difficult for Spud to get into the country.

Meltzer noted that Impact spent nearly $20,000 in legal fees straighten out any issues with the immigration offices in the U.K. so Spud can return to the U.S. Two weeks after he returned to the country, Spud asked for his release from Impact and was granted it in September.

Spud joins a list of superstars that includes Taryn Terrell, Eddie Kingston, Robbie E, Jeff Jarrett, Bram and Reno Scum, all of whom have parted ways with the company in recent weeks.

Pro Wrestling Sheet has confirmed Rockstar Spud is no longer with Impact Wrestling and was told his release was done at the wrestler’s request.

PWInsider first reported on his exit from the company this morning and we’re told his choice to ask for a release wasn’t done out of ill will. It was merely a business decision.

Spud started with Impact in 2012 after winning the first season of their British Boot Camp series and became Dixie Carter‘s “chief of staff.” He went on to have a memorable feud with Ethan Carter IIIthat ended in a hair vs hair match.

His last match for the company was a Street Fight against Swoggle in May.

No word on what the wrestler has lined up for the future.
