Renee Paquette Teases Return To Wrestling Broadcasting, Says AEW Is An Option

Former WWE broadcaster Renee Paquette (Renee Young) has revealed that her lengthy non-compete clause is due to expire soon.

Former WWE broadcaster Renee Paquette (known in WWE as Renee Young) has hinted that she may soon be returning to the world of professional wrestling broadcasting due to the imminent expiration of the lengthy non-compete clause in her WWE contract.

Renee addressed her current career situation in a recent interview with WrestlingINC.

My non-compete with WWE is nearly up,” Paquette said. “I don’t ever want to separate myself from professional wrestling. I know that’s where my fanbase comes from; I know that’s essentially going to always be my bread and butter — and I love that. I love professional wrestling, so I’m not looking to get away from it by any stretch,” she continued.

Despite being unable to immediately return to broadcasting Renee made the most of her time. After leaving WWE, she launched a new podcast called Oral Sessions, published a cookbook, and became a parent for the first time with her husband, AEW star Jon Moxley.

In the aforementioned WrestlingINC interview, Renee commented on the possibility of her once again merging her family and professional lives by linking up with Mox in AEW.

Looking at AEW, I think there are endless opportunities of other things I could be doing over there if that was to be something that came up down the line,” she said. “I’ve honestly not put much thought into it. That’s interesting to be like, ‘Oh, wait! I can do wrestling things again!’”

Renee Paquette would be an asset for whichever company she decided to work for, as she proved during her eight years with WWE.

The special episode will air during Royal Rumble Weekend on Saturday, January 30 at 8pm ET on FS1. A replay will air later that night at midnight, and another replay will air at 5pm ET on Royal Rumble Sunday, as a lead-in to the Royal Rumble Kickoff pre-show.

Renee Young Issues Statement On Departure

Renee Young confirmed ongoing reports of her WWE departure during last night’s SummerSlam Kickoff Show. The announcer and former commentator for RAW reportedly gave her notice to WWE just over one week ago and agreed to work through SummerSlam Weekend.

Since the announcement, Renee has taken to social media to release a lengthy statement about her time working for WWE.

“This November would mark 8 years in WWE. 8 years!!” Renee writes. “An opportunity of a lifetime with a global company to learn, grow, make history and do things beyond my wildest dreams before I left Toronto for this adventure. I made friends, family- literally family- I met my husband here (what a f–king dreamboat) and people that will be a part of my life forever. I did things I couldn’t have even imagined or dreamt up.

“From backstage interviews, a reality show, Talking Smack, being the first woman to be a part of a WWE broadcast in Saudi Arabia, being the first woman to sit at the commentary desk full time on Monday Night Raw, calling Wrestlemania, anchoring a brand new show with Fox Sports (which you guys will still be able to catch me on!) I’ve been so lucky,” Young continued. “But it’s also been a lot of my hard work, drive and passion that’s landed me in these amazing spots. I’ve had such an incredible run with WWE. It’s changed my life. But that all leads me to now. What’s next? Do I stay satisfied with what I’ve done? Or do I go in pursuit of new barriers and goals in mind? I always choose the latter.

“I have no idea what that means or looks like, but it’s time for me to go. Time to roll the dice again and shake things up,” she went on. “Time to light that fire again and forge on. Time to say bye to Renee Young and reconnect with Renee Paquette and remember why I started this journey to begin with. And as the ride slows down- as the world slows down, I see it as my opportunity to make a move. So I just wanted to say thanks to WWE and to the all the fans that have been so damn cool to me over the years. And send a crap ton of love to all of my people. I’m excited for the future! Thanks for everything.”

WWE stars of the past and present reached out to Renee with words of support. WWE Hall of Famer Beth Phoenix sent her a message, saying, “Renee Young broke barriers for female voices. She taught me SO much about the broadcast booth and supported me. She brings out the best in everyone around her. But most of all, she is a friend I treasure. Thank you for everything Renee!”

Multiple other WWE stars would follow suit, as seen below. Some would send her inside jokes, others, like Lacey Evans, stayed in character with their social media goodbye, and others simply gave her well wishes on her future.

Stay tuned for what’s next in Renee Young’s career. In the post below, she reveals that she will still be involved on Fox Sports in some capacity. She also has a new cookbook that is on the horizon.

Renee Young Reportedly Leaving WWE

Renee Young is reportedly leaving WWE.

Young reportedly gave her notice to the company one week ago, according to PWInsider. The news was first reported by OutKick.

There is no word yet on when Young’s final date with the company will be.

Young took some time off earlier this summer after testing positive for COVID-19. She has appeared via video for some WWE programming since then, and recently revealed plans for her first cookbook.

WWE first hired Young in 2012. She has worked on several shows since then, including as the host of Talking Smack and a cast member of Total Divas. She also hosted FS1’s WWE Backstage show earlier this year until it was nixed by the network. Young became the first full-time female member of the WWE RAW announce team in August 2018, before she was moved to SmackDown as a special contributor in October 2019.

Young is married to AEW World Champion Jon Moxley. There is no word yet on what her next move is, but it’s likely that she will continue to have interest from other wrestling and media organizations.

Renee posted a video to Instagram and noted in the caption that she handed over her manuscript today. She has been writing and booking for over three months while working on the book.

She wrote, “Announcement time!!!!! Finally it’s here and i can share it with you guys!! I wrote a cookbook! I finally handed over my manuscript today. Been writing and cooking my butt off for 3 months, and i couldn’t be more excited for the rest of the process to get this book to you lovely people!!”

Renee Young To Become Exclusive To WWE SmackDown?

Fox officials are said to be very high on Renee Young, according to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.

Renee is set to host the weekly WWE studio show on FS1, which will air each Tuesday night. The Observer described the studio show as the weekly WWE version of UFC Tonight.

We noted before that even the announce teams will be exclusive to RAW and SmackDown after the big fall changes are made. It was reported that Fox being high up on Renee could lead to her being exclusive to SmackDown, but that is still up in the air. Renee currently calls RAW action with Michael Cole and Corey Graves.

There’s no word yet on what brand Graves will end up on, but it’s believed that he won’t be calling both shows.

Renee Young To Join Crown Jewel Announce Team In Saudi Arabia

Pro Wrestling Sheereports that Renee Young has been given the green light to join the RAW announce team and is set to travel to Saudi Arabia for Friday’s event.

Sources tell Pro Wrestling Sheet that WWE began working to make this happen in September after the female announcer made history joining the Raw commentary desk.

It’s unclear if Renee will have certain guidelines or rules to follow because of the country’s numerous restrictions for women.

This comes after John Cena and Daniel Bryan refused to work the event due to the Saudi government’s involvement in the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi. Cena has been replaced by Bobby Lashley in the upcoming World Cup tournament.

As you may recall, women were not allowed to perform at Greatest Royal Rumble and the Saudi General Sports Authority even had to release a public apology after the event due to Bayley, Sasha Banks and Carmella being shown on the big screen wearing their ring gear.

Hall of Famer Lita additionally called WWE’s relationship with the Saudi Arabian government a direct conflict of interest at the time due to the company’s public push for female empowerment.
