The Rock Comments On $17.5 Million Deal For Paige Movie

As noted, The Rock’s Seven Bucks Productions and WWE Studios are teaming up for a movie based on Paige and her family, “Fighting with My Family.” Game of Thrones star Lena Headey and actor Nick Frost have joined the cast, plus The Rock will be making a cameo in the movie. Rock wrote the following on a $17.5 million deal for worldwide rights that MGM has secured:

Crazy that this passion project I’m producing started years ago when I was in London filming and couldn’t sleep (clearly I didn’t have my tequila) so at 3am I turn the TV on in my hotel suite and watch a documentary on a UK channel about a local wrestling family. The doc was intriguing, unpredictable and heartfelt. I had a hunch the narrative would make an interesting movie.
And here we are starting production this week and fortunate enough to sign this kind of deal – I couldn’t be happier for everyone who’s worked so hard bringing this passion project to life.

Paige’s Life Story Being Made Into Film By The Rock’s Production Company

The life story of WWE Superstar Paige will soon be told on film … because The Rock just announced that he’s making a movie out of the 2012 documentary about her family.

Dwayne Johnson dropped the news today saying, “BREAKING: Our @sevenbucksprod is excited to announce production on a cool project we’ve been working on for years based on a very unique and gritty professional wrestling family and their daughter’s journey into the spotlight of the WWE.”

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Florence Pugh has already been cast in the movie … so she may be the one playing the role of Paige. They also claim Johnson will make a cameo as himself.

The Rock adds, “Pleasure to partner with WWE Studios and Film 4 to bring this cool story to life.
Paige and I both know what it’s like to come from a wrestling family who’s had it’s good and hard times. Her and I have talked about this project for years now and we’re all excited to bring her and her family’s story to life.”

Alberto Del Rio In Another Backstage Fight

Alberto Del Rio was reportedly involved in a backstage fight at Arena Naucalpan in Mexico this weekend, according to @Luchablog. Del Rio and Paige were in attendance for an IWRG show, likely to watch his brother wrestle in the main event.

While backstage, local lucha star Alan Xtreme (Rafy of Ninja Turtles) was nearby and while what happened next isn’t clear, it’s believed Del Rio thought Alan touched him or touched Paige. The two started hitting each other and a brawl broke out, spilling over into a hallway that connects the locker room to a fan entrance way. Many fans witnessed what happened. No word yet on Del Rio’s status after the fight but Alan’s face was said to be marked up. Luchaworld reports that Alan is in bad shape but stable condition.

Luchablog also reported that Paige and Del Rio were seen drinking before the fight.

Paige Comments On Her Neck Surgery

WWE Superstar Paige underwent neck surgery on Wednesday.

She revealed on Twitter that the surgery was done by Dr. Juan Uribe in Tampa, the same doctor that performed neck surgery on Tyson Kidd. Paige tweeted the following thanks to fiance Alberto Del Rio, Natalya, the doctor and The Bella Twins:

Suspended WWE wrestler Paige proposed to her boyfriend Alberto Del Rio Sunday night inside of the squared circle … then talked about the surprise engagement with a local reporter.

Del Rio wrestled tonight against Carlito in Puerto Rico for WWC and Paige hit the ring moments afterward to drop on one knee and ask for ADR’s hand in marriage.

Paige spoke with Pico’s Reviews afterward and said she felt good after popping the question — mainly because it would have been embarrassing if he had said “no” in front of a bunch of people.

Alberto is still in the process of going through a divorce.

WWE Reportedly Doesn’t Think That Paige Needs Surgery

As noted, Paige is scheduled for neck surgery next Wednesday. She mentioned in a TMZ Sports interview this week that she will need 6-7 months to recover but PWInsider reported that she’s expected out 6-9 months, putting her back in the spring of 2017.

It will be interesting to see if WWE is paying for the surgery as their doctors reportedly did not believe she needed the surgery.

 It was noted by Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio that Paige’s doctors said she did need the surgery and that was a big issue between the two sides. Meltzer added that WWE might not pay for the surgery if they don’t think she needs it.

Paige told TMZ Sports that she would be Alberto Del Rio’s shadow “for the next six or seven months or so” while she’s recovering from her surgery, which would put her return in April or May of 2017. PWInsider reports that Paige is scheduled for surgery next Wednesday.

WWE Suspends Paige Again – Paige Comments

STAMFORD, Conn. — WWE has suspended Saraya-Jade Bevis (Paige) for 60 days effective immediately, for her second violation of the company’s talent wellness policy.

Paige Reportedly With Alberto Del Rio During Stabbing Attack

There’s a lot of speculation on the alleged Alberto Del Rio stabbing incident over the weekend in San Antonio, Texas. As noted via MLW Radio, Del Rio was stabbed several times by a man on Saturday after the man hit Del Rio’s car with his own car by accident. The two drivers exited their vehicles and had words, leading to the man pulling a knife. Del Rio reportedly turned to leave, as he had to catch a flight to Mexico for Sunday’s AAA show that he missed, but the man slashed him from behind. They ended up on the ground and Del Rio got the knife away from the man but he fled in his vehicle. Reports from Del Rio and MLW Radio were that witnesses saw the attack and got the man’s license plate, police were called and a report was filed.

According to Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Radio and Ryan Satin of Pro Wrestling Sheet, the San Antonio Police have no record of the alleged attack involving a high-profile celebrity. Meltzer says the local police aren’t saying the incident did not happen but they apparently don’t know about it.

Another interesting twist to the story is Del Rio’s girlfriend Paige. The report from MLW Radio did not mention the injured WWE Superstar being there but one account Del Rio gave Mexican media did. Meltzer was also relayed a story that mentioned Paige being there. Word is that while Del Rio and the man went to the ground with the man still stabbing Del Rio, she got involved and was thrown by the suspect. Del Rio went to check on her and that is when the man got away in his own car.

Paige being there also raises suspicion on Del Rio’s claim that he could not contact AAA until Monday morning because he lost his phone during the incident as Paige was with him and would have had a phone to use to at least start the process of notifying AAA.

Paige’s brother Zak noted on Facebook last week that Paige “hasn’t left [WWE]” and “is back on the road with WWE from” today. WWE announced last month that Paige had been suspended for 30 days for her first WWE Wellness Policy violation. The suspension was effective August 18th, so her suspension ended yesterday.

It was widely rumored that Paige would not be returning to WWE after her real-life boyfriend, Alberto Del Rio, gave notice and was granted his release from the company earlier this month. She had recently acquired legal representation, and Dave Meltzer reported in the latest issue of The Wrestling Observer Newsletter that she did quit WWE last week at one point, however an attempt was made to “mend fences” and things were settled.

Meltzer added that WWE had at one point made the decision to fire Paige before the announcement of her Wellness policy failure, however they changed their minds.

Paige: Not Medically Cleared To Return To WWE

WWE Superstar Paige has mended her relationship with the company, but won’t be getting back in the ring any time soon. As of Friday Paige is not medically cleared to wrestle, according to an exclusive report by Mister Saint Laurent of MLW Radio.

Paige’s rocky month has been well-documented. After being suspended last month for violating the company’s talent wellness policy, she effectively quit WWE and retained legal representation to get out of her contract. She was all but gone from the company and plans were in place to announce her release. Cooler heads prevailed and she’ll be back in the ring once she’s healthy.

Earlier this week, a statement was issued on Paige’s social media accounts denying she quit WWE and addressing the ongoing injuries. “I certainly look forward to returning back to action at some point, once my injury is treated and on a healthy return.”

Monday is the soonest we could see Paige back on television, as her 30-day suspension will be completed. But don’t expect to see her in the ring on RAW unless she gets cleared by show time.
