Final Competitor Announced For SmackDown Women’s Team At Survivor Series

The final women’s competitor for Team SmackDown at Survivor Series was announced on Saturday by Shane McMahon … and it’s not as surprising as speculation had hoped for.

Shane tweeted, “Individual competition drives every  Superstar. Even in defeat,  proved herself to be a fierce competitor and will be an asset to Team Smackdown’s 5 on 5  Team. Let’s go to work, Nattie.”

Natalya also tweeted saying, “Thank you ! I’ve bled blue since day one and I AM THE BEST as we all know [devil emoji] Smackdown  will win everything at !”

Now that Paige has reportedly been cleared to return, fans have been speculating as to how her comeback will go down. Many were hoping she’d be the final member of Team Smackdown, even though all signs seem to point towards the 25-year-old returning to Raw.

Who Will Induct Beth Phoenix Into The WWE Hall Of Fame?

WWE announced that Natalya will induct Beth Phoenix into the WWE Hall of Fame during WrestleMania 33 weekend.

“There’s nobody that I can think of that deserves to be in the WWE Hall of Fame more than Beth Phoenix,” Natalya told WWE.com. “She’s a pioneer for women in our division. Beth did extraordinary things for women in WWE.”

The Glamazon stood out in many ways during her incredible run in WWE, becoming a four-time champion and the second woman in history to enter the Royal Rumble Match.

“Beth broke down a lot of walls for women in the industry in the sense that she wasn’t a cookie-cutter-type female wrestler,” Natalya explained. “She was bigger than the other girls, she was muscular and dominant, she was strong. At different stages in WWE, that wasn’t always the ‘in’ thing. Beth did it her way and stayed true to who she was. She believed in herself and blazed her own trail.”

For Natalya, inducting Phoenix is an honor, though one she joked that she knew was coming.

“It’s not a surprise,” the third-generation Superstar said. “Beth knows I’d put her in the Sharpshooter if she asked anybody else.”

Kidding aside, Natalya can’t wait to present The Glamazon to the WWE Universe as a Hall of Famer for the first time.

“Beth is one of my best friends,” she said. “We’re close as sisters. It’s such a huge honor for me to induct her into the WWE Hall of Fame because I feel like we shared so many incredible memories on the road, traveling thousands of miles together. We did it all together. While Beth is getting this honor, I want to help share her journey and do her justice.”

Update: Natalya Not Leaving WWE

We noted earlier via PWInsider that people within WWE expect Natalya to leave the company once her current deal expires, mainly over how her husband Tyson Kidd is still out of action with a neck injury. Natalya took to Twitter to deny the reports. The Wrestling Observer Newsletter adds that there’s nothing to the reports and that Natalya is signed to WWE for a pretty significantly long period of time.

As seen at Sunday’s WWE Money In the Bank pay-per-view, Natalya turned on Becky Lynch after their tag team loss to Dana Brooke and WWE Women’s Champion Charlotte.

PWInsider Elite reports that Original plans had Becky turning heel. No word yet on why plans were changed.

On a related note, there has been a lot of internal speculation that Natalya may leave the company when her current WWE contract expires, due to the situation with husband Tyson Kidd being unable to wrestle. It should be noted that this is just speculation among people in the company and there’s been no solid word on Natalya looking to leave but people do expect her to go.

Natalya Wrestled 800th Match

Natalya hit a milestone on Friday night when she wrestled her 800th WWE match at the live event in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. She posted this message about family on Instagram:

A picture can say a 1000 words. Reflecting on this week, I got the chance to spend some time with my family in Calgary, Canada. I stayed with James, a family member who has been battling cancer for the last 14 months. His courage to live is beyond inspiring. It breaks my heart to see what cancer has done to him, but he still smiles and continues to fight with everything he has. What James cares most about is helping others even while he's struggling to stay alive. James has made me appreciate my life in ways he may never know. I also spent some time with @brethitmanhart … Bret's fighting spirit never waivers. He's positive and determined to beat cancer like the true champion he is. Following some invaluable family time, this past Friday, I wrestled a live event in Calgary at the very same arena that my grandfather, Stu Hart, used to promote Stampede Wrestling. And YES, I had my 800th match in #WWE at the CORRAL on Friday night. Before I went out through the curtain, I felt my grandfather Stu, Owen, Davey and my cousin Matt…cheering me on from Heaven.
