Angelina Love Leaving GFW

6-time Knockout Champion, Angelina Love announced she asked for her release from GFW and it was granted.

Love first started with the company back in 2007, forming the popular Beautiful People stable and returned multiple times throughout her career. More recently, at Slammiversary XV, Love worked with husband, Davey Richards, as the two lost to Eddie and Alisha Edwards in a Full Metal Mayhem match.

Her husband Davey Richards announced his departure back in July from GFW to focus on becoming a doctor.

Matt Sydal Injured On GFW Impact

Matt Sydal received medical attention after last night’s GFW Impact main event due to his shoulder popping out of place during the match. Sydal said he knew it was out of place when it happened and the shoulder went numb. In the video, he’s told he shouldn’t wrestle for 6-8 weeks, so the ligaments in the shoulder can heal up. Sydal is scheduled to face Lashley next week at Destination X.

GFW cameras caught up with Matt Sydal after the show to ask him about the injury. Sydal responded:

“That might have been the last bump you ever saw from Matt Sydal, maybe not. That feeling of numbness that goes from here all the way down to your last fingertip. …I don’t break, I just bend like the little blade of grass that still standing when the storm has past and all the big trees – the big oaks – have toppled over. This little blade of grass is gonna be standing.”

WWE And GFW Assigned Trademark Attorneys For Matt And Jeff Hardy

WWE’s applications for trademarks relating to Matt Hardy and Jeff Hardy filed on June 19 were assigned to a trademark attorney on July 27, according to PWInsider. This means they’ll bypass the three-month wait period that applies to most applications.

Global Force Wrestling’s applications for trademarks relating to the Hardys were filed on April 28 and were also assigned to a trademark attorney on July 27.

WWE’s application for Matt Hardy received an initial refusal due to potential confusion with the “Broken Matt Hardy” application, which was filed first by Hardy himself. All other actions will be frozen until Matt’s application is finalized. A similar situation happened with GFW’s application.

Both of WWE’s applications also received an initial refusal due to WWE not providing consent from Matt and Jeff to trademark their respective names. They quickly responded with consent from both of them.

WWE’s application for a trademark on the Hardy Boyz name was filed in April and is set to be published for opposition to the public at the end of August.

Eddie Kingston, who hasn’t appeared on Impact Wrestling since April when the DCC broke up, is still with Global Force Wrestling. In the meantime, he continues to work independent shows.

DJ Z Says He’s Been Cleared By Doctors To Wrestle

GFW wrestler DJ Z has been suffering the side effects of a scary injury he sustained in April … but now the wrestler says he’s officially been cleared for action.

Z tweeted a photo of the doctor’s note which shows he’s been cleared and wrote, “after 4 months of struggles, anxiety and uncertainty, i am officially cleared to return to in-ring competition.”

It’s worth noting, however, that DJ had already been wrestling at indie shows without the clearance.

For those who don’t recall, the wrestler also known as Zema Ion underwent surgery in Mexico for a fractured colon and internal bleeding following a 450 splash gone wrong at a Crash show. Months later he revealed that he was having what felt like PTSD episodes related to the incident.

GFW Live Events Update For This Weekend

GFW issued the following:

Global Force Wrestling Announces Updates To Impact Live Events In New York On August 4-5, Including Rare, 5-Pack Trading Card Set

NASHVILLE – The first-ever five-pack trading card set released by Global Force Wrestling (GFW) will be distributed to all fans attending the Impact Live Event this Saturday, August 5, in New York City – and collecting insiders have already said that the set will be highly sought-after, extremely rare and hard-to-find.

Saturday’s Impact Live Event action will be held at Richmond County Bank Ballpark at St. George, home of the Staten Island Yankees, starting at 6 p.m. ET, with the gates opening to the general public at 5 p.m. ET. An exclusive pre-show meet-and-greet with select talent kicks off at 4 p.m. ET for Price Level 1 and 2 ticket holders.

GFW officials announced today that the five-pack trading card set will include Bobby Lashley, EC3, “Cowboy” James Storm, Allie and unified GFW/Impact Tag Team Champions New York City’s Own The Latin American Xchange (Santana and Ortiz). All five cards will be must-have collectibles for wrestling fans, collecting insiders said.

The Impact Live Event tour kicks off in the New York Tri-State Area, the night prior – this Friday, August 4, at The Sports Arena in the town of St. James on Long Island, starting at 8 p.m. ET – marking the first-ever live events for the new-look GFW. The Friday night show also marks GFW’s Suffolk County Long Island debut. The pre-show VIP talent meet-and-greet for Price Level 1 and 2 ticket-holders starts at 6 p.m.

In addition, GFW officials confirmed that Lucha Libre AAA star John Hennigan (known as Johnny Mundo in Lucha Underground and formerly John Morrison in WWE) will compete at both shows in six-man Main Event match. Joining Hennigan as special guests for the New York live events are Taya Valkyrie, an international superstar who has shined in AAA, and Mexico’s own Drago. Both live events also feature GFW/Impact Wrestling mainstays, such as Lashley, EC3, Low-Ki, Cowboy James Storm, Unified GFW/Impact Knockouts Champion Sienna, Eli Drake, Eddie Edwards and many more.

“We are excited for the Impact Live Events this Friday and Saturday in the New York City area,” said Jeff Jarrett, GFW Chief Creative Officer. “I know the fans will be very excited to see the GFW stars in New York and also stars from around the world, including Mexico’s Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide and Crash Lucha, plus local independent promotions. These Impact Live Events will truly be global events.”

The Impact Live Events in New York will also feature Impact Grand Champion Moose, reigning X-Division Champion Sonjay Dutt, and others, including Trevor Lee, Braxton Sutter, Mario Bokara, Fallah Bahh, New York’s own, KM, and more live in action.

Update On GFW – ‘Broken’ Universe Trademarks

All four Broken Universe-related trademarks that Global Force Wrestling filed for registration have been given an initial refusal by the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), according to PWInsider.

The trademarks, originally filed by TNA Entertainment (prior to the name change/re-brand), were refused for a variety of reasons.

Matt Hardy filed the trademark for “Broken Matt Hardy” first, which the USPTO could see as confusingly similar. If GFW is going to get it, they’ll have to prove there is no conflict between the two. They’ll also need to indicate whether “Broken Matt” refers to a living person and if it does, Matt will have to sign off. Since Matt filed the trademark first, his application will hold precedence.

The trademark for “Brother Nero” was refused because Global Force Wrestling failed to indicate whether or not it was to identify a living person. If it does, they will need the consent of Jeff Hardy, whose legal middle name is Nero.

The trademark for “Broken Brilliance” was refused because GFW failed to specify whether or not the term has any significance in professional wrestling or if it is just a “term of art” in the wrestling business.

It’s likely the trademark for “Vanguard1” was refused because it is confusingly similar to a non wrestling-related trademark.

Further, all four trademarks also received initial refusal because the wordings used for identification and classification of goods and services in the initial filing were too broad. The USPTO requested additional clarification.
