EC3 Wins NWA Worlds Heavyweight Title, Forces Tyrus Into Retirement

EC3 enjoys working in NWA and he has more reason to love the promotion after he defeated Tyrus to win the NWA Worlds Heavyweight Championship.

The bullrope match for the NWA Worlds Heavyweight Championship was the main event of night 2 of the NWA 75th Anniversary Show on Sunday, where EC3 began his first reign with the title after Tyrus tapped out. EC3’s win also meant that his opponent, Tyrus, had to retire from NWA, which was the stipulation heading into the match.

Tyrus had held the title since last November’s Hard Times 3 show, where he had defeated Matt Cardona and then champion Trevor Murdoch to become the heavyweight champion.

The former WWE star, who has made a few controversial statements in the past, was recently in the news for the wrong reasons when he advocated assaulting children if they used their preferred pronouns.

There was another major title change at NWA 75 as Kenzie Paige became the NWA World Women’s Championship after defeating Kamille, which was also on night 2 of the show. Kamille had successfully defended her title on Saturday against Natalia Markova, but her 800+ day reign as champion ended at the hands of Paige.

Paige, though, lost the NWA World Women’s Television Championship on Saturday night to Max the Impaler, while Blunt Force Trauma won the NWA World Tag Team Championship on night 1 after defeating La Rebelión on night 1 and retaining it on night 2, winning their match against Trevor Murdoch and Mike Knox.

EC3 And Adam Scherr To Announce TV Deal For New Pro Wrestling Company

EC3 and Adam Scherr (fka WWE’s Braun Strowman) have announced that their Control Your Narrative brand is launching as a new pro wrestling company.

Wrestling Inc. noted a few weeks back how Scherr and EC3 announced their “Control Your Narrative: Live” shows for Orlando and Dallas in March. Killer Kross is also working with the brand, and more names were to be announced in the coming weeks.

In an update, an additional announcement was issued today for the launch of the new pro wrestling company. It was also said that an announcement on a “CYN: Live” TV deal is imminent.

EC3’s original partner, Jedediah Koszewski, noted in today’s announcement that CYN has a new partner, and network distribution.

“The Whisper Campaign has begun. Yes, CYN has a new partner. Yes, CYN has network distribution. Yes, we are very excited to take CYN to the next level,” Koszewski said.

It was noted in today’s press release that the March 31 live event in Dallas is now a TV taping. The Dallas show is also where Kross will make his CYN debut.

Scherr noted that everything will be revealed at the Dallas event.

“No, we will not tell you anything further. You will learn everything you want to know at CYN: Dallas on 3/31,” Scherr said.

EC3 added, “In Control Your Narrative I speak about finding your purpose. This idea and this company will be bigger than any one person. I can’t promise anything other than my undying effort to create a platform for the right wrestlers to do what they love and provide the freedom they crave. For fans to have an intimate, unforgettable LIVE experience along with an artistic, action packed, emotional TV presentation. Control Your Narrative is my purpose.”

The names working with CYN mentioned in today’s press release include Impact World Champion Moose, Impact Digital Media Champion Matt Cardona, Jon Skyler, Matt Sydal, Marina Shafir, Westin Blake, and Matt Taven.

There’s no word yet on which network is set to carry the CYN product.

“Now that I have your attention, here’s the truth.” – ec3

The “Control Your Narrative” concept has manifested itself from an idea, to a movement, to a live touring/televised wrestling company.

“We, collectively as wrestlers, can no longer wait. We can not wait on companies that answer only to share holders. Companies where billionaires collect talent as “toys.” Companies that fire their entire roster for the mistakes their office made. Companies that are complacent in presentation.

Companies where talent sit in the back, and say “nothing matters.”

To create true change, you have to be bold. You have to bet on yourself. With CYN, talent bet on themselves.” -ec3

What has started as a self produced, independently crafted concept focused on character development/wrestling through a “cinematic lens,” Control Your Narrative and their “Free The Narrative” series was created by ec3 and his partner Jedediah Koszewski in April of 2020.

“The world was changing and everyone felt fear and anxiety. When you only have questions, and there are no answers, the best therapy is to create.” – Koszewski

“The talent that has reached out, wanting to create with us, wanting to control their narrative has been humbling. It’s an honor to be able to help tell their story.”

One of these talent is the former Universal Champion “Braun Strowman,” now known by his birth name Adam Scherr.

“I was so impressed with what Control Your Narrative was creating, that I told ec3 and JC how much it inspired me. How much I would like to create with them one day.

The next day I was released from my contract. Things happen for a reason. Preproduction of “Free The Narrative II: The Monster in us All” began immediately.

This is what’s next.” – Scherr

All talent featured in CYN have asked to be a part of the project. These competitors range from known to unknown and include names like Matt Cardona, Moose, Jon Skyler, Matt Sydal, Marina Shafir, Westin Blake, Matt Taven and more.

Opportunity awaits for up and comers through CYN’s “Project Initiation” (seminars hosted prior to CYN Live Events.)

On 3/31 CYN: Dallas, the much anticipated debut of Killer Kross takes place.

“If you want to Control Your Narrative, all you have to do is knock.” – ec3

At CYN there is no corporate hierarchy. There are no deep-pocketed investors wanting to use the sport simply to profit. There are no contracts, or political agendas. There is only passion to create with the platform for a talent to “become who they are supposed to be.”

The one thing missing for CYN to “become who they are supposed to be” was a proper platform and network distribution. That has been achieved.

“The Whisper Campaign has begun. Yes, CYN has a new partner. Yes, CYN has network distribution. Yes, we are very excited to take CYN to the next level.” – Koszewski

“No, we will not tell you anything further. You will learn everything you want to know at CYN: Dallas on 3/31” – Scherr

“In Control Your Narrative I speak about finding your purpose.

Control Your Narrative is my purpose.” – ec3

Adam Scherr (fka WWE’s Braun Strowman) has been announced for his first post-WWE booking.

Scherr, who became a free agent from his WWE contract on Tuesday, has been announced to face EC3 on the “Free The Narrative II: The Monster In Us All” event.

EC3’s “Free The Narative II: The Monster In Us All” will be released on Friday, October 1 at midnight. It can be pre-ordered now via Vimeo for $10. You can see the trailer for Scherr vs. EC3 below.

FTN2 is the sequel to the original FTN event, which featured EC3 vs. Matt Cardona. That event is now available at a reduced price of $4.99 via Vimeo.

EC3’s official announcement for FTN2 noted that many more wrestlers will be announced for the event. The original FTN event included Moose, John Skyler, Bill Carr, Matt Sydal, and others.

EC3 describes FTN as “a series that tells original and personal stories with some of professional wrestling’s biggest names, and those yet known. ‘Free The Narrative’ is completely independent of any wrestling promotion. Set to an original score, FTN blends professional wrestling, cinema, and harsh reality in what will become the true definition of ‘creative freedom’ for an industry that desperately needs it, and any performer that truly seeks it. To #ControlYourNarrative is to ‘Tell Your Story.’ In ‘Free The Narrative’ those stories are told.”

Scherr has posted several tweets today to hype the FTN2 announcement, his first teasers as a free agent. He continues to use the “My Life My Rules” catchphrase.

“It’s time to live you own life without worrying about the expectations of others!!!! #MLMR #MyLifeRules #Rise,” he wrote. Scherr added in a tweet with the FTN2 poster, “Take control of your own life!!! Live how you wanna live. #MLMR #MyLifeMyRules @therealec3”

Scherr, who was released from WWE on June 2, has been rumored to sign with Impact Wrestling and AEW, with Impact Executive Vice President Scott D’Amore actually teasing him for Bound For Glory in October. He recently teased that he will be using “Titan” as his post-WWE ring name, but for now the former WWE Universal Champion is just going by his real name.

Scherr was previously announced for Qatar Pro Wrestling’s SuperSlam 3 show on February 26, 2022 at the Lausail Sports Arena in Doha, Qatar. He will travel to Qatar this month to sign the contract with QPW Chairman Ali Al-Marafi. Other names announced for the QPW event include EC3, Jon Moxley, Brian Cage, Sammy Guevcara, Will Ospreay, and IWGP United States Heavyweight Champion Hiroshi Tanahashi.

EC3 Hospitalized With Infection

EC3 has been hospitalized with an infection.

The Ring of Honor star posted two hospital bed photos to his Instagram, noting the infection is “extensive.”

“Short version; An infection I neglected proper care for, put others people’s needs before mind, went straight empath, caught up to me and broke me,” EC3 wrote. “Long version; it’s extensive, I’ve been hospitalized 5 days and we’ll need longer. Anyways I will heal, if you want to help drop a comment or a thought or affirmation.”

The former TNA World Champion concluded the caption by asking fans and friends to show their support in the comments, and to refrain from texting him directly.

EC3 is currently signed to ROH, where he recently lost his grudge match against Jay Briscoe at ROH’s 19th Anniversary Show. Looking towards the future, EC3 has a special “Free the Narrative” event scheduled for Memorial Day Weekend, which he is currently slated to headline against Matt Cardona (fka Zack Ryder). There is no telling how long this hospitalization will keep him out of action or whether “Free the Narrative” will be delayed.

EC3 Says “I Have No Home” After Impact Wrestling Slammiversary Appearance

As Impact Wrestling Slammiversary came to a close, a video was shown hyping the return of EC3.

Released by WWE back in April, he previously worked in TNA / Impact from 2013 until 2018. During his run, EC3 won the TNA World Heavyweight Championship on two occasions.

While it looks like he’s returned or has come back to Impact, EC3 noted earlier today on social media that is not quite the case.

“I have no home. I’m not ‘back.’ I’m not here for ‘friends’ or ‘family.’ In reality, who I am, has never been here. ‘Nostalgia’ and ‘comfort’ do not interest me. This isn’t what you think this is. This is more. #ControlYourNarrative #FreeEC3”

By the sounds of it, maybe EC3 is planning on showing up in more than one promotion over the next couple weeks.

EC3 dropped his “Choose Your Narrative” video once his 90-day non-compete clause ended with WWE.

Impact Wrestling Features Released WWE Superstars In Slammiversary PPV Promo Video

Impact Wrestling released a new Slammiversary PPV video Tuesday night which starts out with someone in a hood pouring a drink into a glass and watching a “You’re Fired breaking news report” about over 20 plus superstars released from contracts amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.

The video shows brief clips of Eric Young, Luke Gallows, Karl Anderson, Rockstar Spud (Drake Maverick), Curt Hawkins, Mike Bennett, Maria Kanellis and EC3. There was also an apparent reference to Rusev as the Bulgarian flag was shown.

These wrestlers’ that appeared in the video are all under a 90-day non-compete clause with WWE so none of them can legally negotiate with another promotion until early July.

It should be noted, however, that each wrestlers’ non-compete clauses expire just a few days before the Slammiversary pay-per-view.

This year’s IMPACT Slammiversary takes place, live Sunday, July 18.  A location for the event has yet to be announced.

UPDATE:

Drake Maverick has re-signed with WWE.

EC3 Out of Action With A Concussion

EC3 is currently out of action with a concussion.

There’s no word yet on when EC3 will be back, but he suffered the concussion at the end of September, according to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter. It looks like his last match was at the WWE Main Event tapings on September 30, when he teamed with Eric Young for a loss to Lince Dorado and Gran Metalik.

EC3 remains a member of the RAW roster but he hasn’t been used much on the main roster.

News On EC3 Getting Punished For Crowd Reactions During WWE Matches Against Jon Moxley (Dean Ambrose)

Since making his debut on the main roster in February, EC3 has had a lackluster run where he’s often times been positioned in matches on WWE Main Event. Despite fans wanting to see more from EC3 (especially in the promo department), questionable booking decisions haven’t given him much to work with as of yet.

The likely reason for his quick decline after the call-up could be found in Jon Moxley’s interview on Talk Is Jericho. Moxley noted WWE was looking to have him lose to a number of people on his way out and found it surprising he was brought back to TV week after week in the months and weeks leading up to his exit.

In February, EC3 quickly defeated Moxley on RAW in his first main roster match. Positioned as the babyface, EC3 was scheduled against Moxley in house shows and fans ended up cheering on Moxley, which Moxley said would come back negatively on EC3.

“They put me against EC3, debuting from NXT,” Moxley said. “Great talent, great friend of mine. Excited to work with him. They have EC3 come in as a babyface, defeat me in two minutes. … The crowd does not like this, because it’s transparent what’s happening and this is not a—this is not good for EC3, because now he’s gonna get the backlash.

“So it was an unfair position for him to be put in. We get to that weekend, I’m working with EC3 on house shows, now I’m the biggest babyface on the show. I’m a heel, I’m thumbing him in the eye, I’m making fun of the town, it doesn’t matter, they’re violently rejecting him as the babyface and they’re cheering the hell out of me. It’s got nothing to do with him, it’s like anti-WWE.”

In this morning’s edition of Wrestler Observer Radio, this same topic came up and Dave Meltzer also confirmed “100%” that’s the reason EC3 is where he’s at in the company.

After EC3 initially won, the very next week on RAW, EC3 and Moxley had a rematch and Moxley ended up beating him. EC3 has not had a singles match on RAW since. In regards to the house shows, Meltzer noted that the basic thought was crowds are going to cheer the stars that have been around for years (heel or face) over the new NXT star that most of them don’t know, putting EC3 in a tough spot.

Moxley debuted for AEW on last weekend’s Double or Nothing PPV where he attacked both Chris Jericho and Kenny Omega after the main event.

Backstage News On Vince McMahon – Luke Harper, Braun Strowman Gets Heat At WrestleMania 35?, EC3

Vince McMahon has reportedly informed Luke Harper in writing that the company will not be releasing him from his WWE contract, according to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.

As we’ve noted, Harper announced back on April 16 that he had requested his release over unhappiness with how he’s been used. It was reported last week that WWE has added another 6 months to Harper’s contract for the time he spent on the shelf after wrist surgery. His contract was to expire in November of this year, but now he won’t be able to leave until around WrestleMania 36 time in 2020. WWE had plans for Harper to return and feud with Sami Zayn.

Vince reportedly saw Harper’s return match earlier this year and then made the decision not to use him. Vince reportedly said he didn’t “get him” and complained that Harper couldn’t even do a Southern accent, which stems from WWE wanting Harper to do a Southern accent four years ago.

Harper had been regularly pitching ideas to WWE officials while he was out with the injury, but they turned every pitch down. Harper was cleared to return to the ring back on February 6, but WWE wasn’t using him beyond the WrestleMania 35 Axxess tapings. Vince randomly wanted to know why Harper wasn’t in the 6th Annual Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal at WrestleMania, which is why he was added to the match. Apparently the end of the battle royal was a mess as winner Braun Strowman forgot his spots, which is one of the reasons why Strowman hasn’t had much of a push since winning the match.

Harper was to begin the feud with Zayn the day after WrestleMania 35, but he was then told that he wasn’t needed for the post-WrestleMania TV tapings in Brooklyn. Harper then went home, but was called to come back on Tuesday for a match with EC3. Harper was basically used as the dark match opponent to test out the wrestler/manager pairing of EC3 and Drake Maverick. The agents in charge of that match had set up several manager-related spots in the match. Vince watched the match and said he hated the spots with Drake. WWE creative then held a meeting on the first day of the 2019 Superstar Shakeup and when it was asked about which brand Harper would be going to, Vince commented on how he can’t even do the Southern accent and how the match with EC3 was bad. Harper ended up going nowhere in the Shakeup and that’s when he asked for his release.

There’s no word yet on if WWE will bring Harper back to TV, or if he will sit at home while they wait for his contract to expire next year.
