AEW’s Adam Copeland Assisting FEMA Workers In NC, Cash Wheeler Starts Crowdfund For Hurricane Relief In Hometown Near Asheville, NC

As the Gulf Coast prepares for Hurricane Milton, those in South Carolina, North Carolina, and Tennessee are still cleaning up after Hurricane Helene ravaged the area, hitting towns like Asheville, NC unprecedentedly hard. On the pre-WrestleDream media call, AEW President Tony Khan says that his booking and travel woes caused by the hurricane were put in stark perspective by a conversation with AEW star and WWE Hall of Famer Adam Copeland.

“I talked to [Adam Copeland]…and I was dealing with a bit of a scramble with those [booking] issues and Adam called me, backstage at ‘Collision’ and he was with the FEMA workers and he was with them and he was helping them and they were digging [dead] bodies out,” Khan said. “Here I am, six cups of coffee and pulling my hair out because people’s flights got canceled.”

Khan said the conversation inspired him to think a little clearer, as realizing how small his problems were in comparison was all he needed to inspire a little creative problem-solving.

Copeland’s own family lives in the area, and his wife, WWE Hall of Famer Beth Phoenix, updated fans on the condition of the family following the storm. The couple’s daughter suffered an infection in the days after the hurricane but were able to navigate the flooded streets to get her medical attention.

Khan has given generously to the town of Asheville, home of AEW’s Cash Wheeler. Wheeler has led relief efforts within the wrestling world, which has seen numerous wrestlers donate to the cause.

Wheeler’s GoFundMe for Hurricane Helene victims has raised over $70,000 as of this writing with 534 donors. Former AEW World Champion MJF donated $1,000 to the campaign and Tony Khan donated $10,000.

Beth Phoenix Reveals WWE NXT Announce Team Departure

WWE Hall of Famer Beth Phoenix is moving on from the WWE NXT announce team.

Phoenix took to Twitter today to announce that Sunday’s WarGames event will be her final night on NXT commentary with Vic Joseph and Wade Barrett. She confirmed that she will remain a part of WWE, but she is stepping away from the weekly WWE gig to spend more time with family.

Phoenix thanked Joseph, Barrett, Nigel McGuinness, Tom Phillips, Mauro Ranallo, Triple H, Shawn Michaels, and Michael Cole. She also said the brand will always be a part of her.

“Ahead of WarGames, I wanted to share that this Sunday will be my final night in NXT,” she wrote. “While I will remain a part of WWE, I have made the choice to step away from the weekly broadcast booth to spend more time with my family. This was not an easy decision, as I have loved my three plus years and 135 episodes with NXT and am incredibly proud of the brand. I will forever be grateful to Vic Joseph, Wade Barrett, Nigel McGuinness, Tom Phillips, Mauro Ranallo, Triple H, Shawn Michaels, Michael Cole, and my entire NXT family both in and out of the ring for the amazing opportunity. NXT Announcers Recording From Home To Limit Travel During Pandemic

Mauro Ranallo and Beth Phoenix began recording their portion of NXT shows from home this week as an additional precautionary measure during the pandemic.

Sources confirms WWE’s production team put together a way for Ranallo and Phoenix to record from home in an effort to keep them as integral parts of the show on commentary while limiting the amount of travel they’d need to do for the time being.

We’re told this was able to be done with the NXT announcers because they appear on-screen less than the Raw and SmackDown commentary teams, which is why Tom Phillips joined them at the virtual announce desk from the taping.

The news of the duo recording from home was first reported on Wrestling Observer Radio.

WWE recently made the decision to adjust their filming schedule and pre-film shows in batches to increase the safety of everyone taking part in the tapings. This is also being done to help “flatten the curve” as much as possible while still producing shows.

During a recent conference call with WWE investors, it was additionally noted that there is extreme cleaning going on between each match and many medical precautionary measures being taken to ensure no one is entering the Performance Center sick during the COVID-19 pandemic.

WWE’s next round of tapings is set to begin on May 11.

The NXT announce desk has undergone a minor shakeup, as Beth Phoenix is now part of the team.

As you may recall, Beth has been doing commentary more frequently in WWE. This includes the second Mae Young Classic and Mixed Match Challenge. She also recently returned to the ring at WrestleMania alongside Natalya when they competed for the Women’s Tag Team titles.

No word on what this means for Percy Watson’s role going forward.

WWE announced that Natalya will induct Beth Phoenix into the WWE Hall of Fame during WrestleMania 33 weekend.

Natalya to induct Beth Phoenix into the WWE Hall of FameNatalya will induct her best friend and former tag team partner, Beth Phoenix, into the WWE Hall of Fame on Friday, March 31, live on WWE Network.

“There’s nobody that I can think of that deserves to be in the WWE Hall of Fame more than Beth Phoenix,” Natalya told WWE.com. “She’s a pioneer for women in our division. Beth did extraordinary things for women in WWE.”

The Glamazon stood out in many ways during her incredible run in WWE, becoming a four-time champion and the second woman in history to enter the Royal Rumble Match.

“Beth broke down a lot of walls for women in the industry in the sense that she wasn’t a cookie-cutter-type female wrestler,” Natalya explained. “She was bigger than the other girls, she was muscular and dominant, she was strong. At different stages in WWE, that wasn’t always the ‘in’ thing. Beth did it her way and stayed true to who she was. She believed in herself and blazed her own trail.”

For Natalya, inducting Phoenix is an honor, though one she joked that she knew was coming.

“It’s not a surprise,” the third-generation Superstar said. “Beth knows I’d put her in the Sharpshooter if she asked anybody else.”

Kidding aside, Natalya can’t wait to present The Glamazon to the WWE Universe as a Hall of Famer for the first time.

“Beth is one of my best friends,” she said. “We’re close as sisters. It’s such a huge honor for me to induct her into the WWE Hall of Fame because I feel like we shared so many incredible memories on the road, traveling thousands of miles together. We did it all together. While Beth is getting this honor, I want to help share her journey and do her justice.”

How will Natalya honor her close friend? Find out when she inducts Beth Phoenix into the WWE Hall of Fame at the 2017 Induction Ceremony, live on WWE Network Friday, March 31 at 8 ET/5 PT.

Beth Phoenix To Be Inducted Into WWE Hall of Fame Class of 2017

WWE announced the following today:

Beth Phoenix to be inducted into WWE Hall of Fame Class of 2017Beth Phoenix, one of the most dominant female competitors in sports-entertainment, will take her rightful place in the WWE Hall of Fame when she is inducted as part of the Class of 2017 during WrestleMania 33 Week. The news was first reported by USA Today.

Phoenix first arrived in WWE in 2006, brutalizing Mickie James and aligning herself with fellow WWE Hall of Famer Trish Stratus. Unfortunately, a jaw injury forced Phoenix to the sidelines just weeks after her debut. She returned to Monday Night Raw more than a year later, ready to dominate the competition. Possessing great beauty and power, Phoenix dubbed herself “The Glamazon” and went right to work.

Within months of her return to WWE, Phoenix captured the Women’s Championship and dominated the division for months, muscling around the competition with ease before planting opponents face-first into the canvas with her patented Glam Slam. She also was part of an unlikely, yet infamous power couple with Santino Marella. The duo, dubbed “Glamarella,” found great success, often in spite of the wacky antics of The Milan Miracle. In fact, it was Phoenix who won herself a second Women’s Championship and Marella the Intercontinental Title in a Winner Take All Tag Team Match at SummerSlam 2008.

Phoenix went on to capture the Women’s Championship once more, as well as the Divas Championship before stepping away from the ring in 2012. On top of her championship glory, The Glamazon was a pioneer, truly showing what women could do inside the squared circle. Phoenix was the second woman ever to enter the Royal Rumble Match, eliminating the towering Great Khali in the 2010 edition of the 30-Superstar, over-the-top-rope melee. She wasn’t afraid to throw down in a hardcore match and even took part in the first ever Tables Match to feature women at WWE TLC 2010.

And now, Beth Phoenix is blazing a trail toward sports-entertainment immortality, as she enters the WWE Hall of Fame.
