AEW Signs Former Impact Knockouts Champion Allie, News On Title Belt Design

On the latest Road to Double or Nothing it was announced former Impact Knockouts Champion Allie has signed with AEW. The above video features Allie meeting with Brandi Rhodes and getting ideas for her new wrestling gear with former WWE seamstress, Sandra Gray.

Allie spoke about how she first got into wrestling and how she’s looking forward to working with All Elite Wrestling.

“Going forward, I really want to make my mark here at AEW,” Allie said. “I feel like even though I’ve had those opportunities, I feel like now I really want to show people what I can do and I don’t know if I had that chance before.”

Allie originally appeared in Impact back in 2013 and signed a contract with them in 2016. Allie has already finished up with Impact Wrestling, according to PWInsider. Allie’s last appearance will air on tomorrow’s episode of Impact. The report stated she knew back in January the company wouldn’t be renewing her deal as they look to refresh the roster. Allie was said to be well liked and ended up keeping the news mostly to herself, so when yesterday’s signing broke that would be when many in Impact were made aware of her exit.

The video below also showed Brandi talking about the design for a new AEW championship title. She noted it will be as large as the Mid-South North American Championship. They are looking to make it unique to AEW, but the size will be in the same ballpark, below is a photo of what the Mid-South North American Championship looked like.

MLW CEO Court Bauer Discusses AEW & States That MLW Talent Can Work Anywhere But WWE

MLW CEO Court Bauer was a guest on Wrestling Inc’s WINCLY podcast. During the interview, he addressed a number of topics, including MLW’s relationship with other companies.

On Wrestlers Working Elsewhere: “We signed MJF and Lucha Bros… we’ve had these guys for a while so there’s a mutual coolness there,” Bauer said. “There’s not a problem. We don’t block anyone from working anywhere. We only have one company where they’re prohibited working for which is WWE.”By doing that, if they end up on national TV somewhere – that’s great exposure. Now people are familiar with you elsewhere and also here.”

On AEW Entering The Mix: “I am very interested in the seeing the direction AEW goes. My philosophy is tide rises all ships. As long as your business is running at a high level and clicking with your fan base, you’re gonna do fine and the fans will support it. The fans will go beyond just one product. If AEW does well…if MLW does well, then that’s great for fans and the talent. It’s great for anyone. For every success story in wrestling, that helps validate it to a larger audience. To licensing people. To TV people. To potential investors….You don’t want a landscape where just one or two companies are successful – that doesn’t indicate a healthy industry.”

On AEW/MLW Wrestlers Leaving To Join AEW Full-Time: “We have very healthy and open lines of communication with [AEW] and I don’t anticipate it being an issue…. Whenever you can find a way to work together and take the ego out of the equation, you find that life is easier and business is better. The business problem people have in wrestling is ego…. Just get over it. It’s important to stay humble but also to be strategic and see the bigger picture.”

AEW Files New Trademark Application

On February 28, 2019, All Elite Wrestling, LLC applied for yet another trademark through the United States Patent & Trademark Office. This time, AEW is applying to trademark ‘All Elite Wrestling – AEW’.

According to the filing, “[t]he mark consists of the term ALL ELITE WRESTLING AEW surrounded by rectangular border, with the words ‘ALL ELITE’ in smaller font on top, the stylized wording AEW in bigger font in the middle, and the word ‘WRESTLING’ in smaller font at the bottom.”

Moreover, the design is to be associated with AEW music and ringtones, merchandise such as posters and trading cards, mugs and glassware, toys and Christmas ornaments, clothing, bags and backpacks, various forms of retail sales, as well as the live streaming of events, among other things.

This filing comes hot off the heels of news that AEW’s prior trademark applications (the original AEW design and wordmark, ‘All Elite Wrestling’, ‘AEW Double Or Nothing’, ‘AEW All Out’, ‘Tuesday Night Dynamite’, ‘Fight For The Fallen’ and ‘Change The Universe’) all faced initial refusal from the USPTO on a variety of technical grounds. AEW has six months from USPTO’s February 19, 2019 letter of initial refusal to rectify its rejected trademark applications.

What is unknown at this time is whether the new trademark application has any impact on AEW’s previous filings. The February 28, 2019 application could be used to replace the prior AEW design; however, given the distinctive appearance and description of this most recent filing, it is most likely merely a variant logo design.

Cody Rhodes Explains How AEW’s Television Show Will Feel Fresh

All Elite Wrestling (AEW) executive Cody Rhodes recently took some time out for an interview with the folks from the New York Post. During the discussion, Cody explained how AEW will feel “fresh” from both a television and roster-building perspective. Featured below are some of the highlights.

On how AEW’s TV show will be fresh: “To me it’s treating it as live sports. The core to that is characters, and I think characters beam across your television set or devices in ways perhaps people have forgotten. Wrestling used to have these great enhancements matches, these squash matches where you would see these characters and the things he could do. He’d tell you what you had at the pay-per-view event and things of that nature.

“At the core of all wrestling, when it’s done right, is the characters and their connection to the audience. If you really think about it, we’re the only thing out there — the pro wrestling genre in general — we are the only thing out there with that type of engagement with the audience, and that engagement somehow affects what happens in the ring, especially when you are someone like a Chris Jericho and you can hear it, feel it completely in your bone. It’s really important that the character engage the audience. You don’t just want to be watching a show, you want to be participating.”

On how AEW will feel fresh from a talent and roster building perspective: “In terms of talent, that’s what matters a great deal to me. It’s one of the biggest factors in hiring is fresh. To give you an example: We’ve all watched a lot of wrestling where a lot of guys have been recycled and rehashed and reused, and there is always a lot of activation of the legend. I totally get that. I’m not anti it. I just think, if you’re starting a company and not many people have been starting a company in wrestling, you start with people they haven’t seen and people who haven’t gotten the opportunity and get to grow up in front of you and balance it out.

“Chris Jericho is a six-time world champion, cool. And that only helps the people he shares that locker room with, and that’s been a big thing. It’s ironic that it’s the ex-WWE guy saying it in me, but obviously we don’t just want to do, ‘He’s ex-WWE, let’s throw him the world and hope he comes hang out with us.'”
