Scott D’Amore Comments On Launching Maple Leaf Pro Wrestling

Former TNA Wrestling executive Scott D’Amore announced the launch of Maple Leaf Pro Wrestling earlier this month, with the first shows set to take place on October 19th and 20th. D’Amore spoke with CBC on a number of topics, including growing up watching Maple Leaf Wrestling.

D’Amore said, “It was what came through on Saturdays on CHCH out of Hamilton. Every week they took a match from one of the Maple Leaf Gardens house shows, live events, and they showed it on TV, and the only place you got to see that was on Maple Leaf Wrestling.”

On launching Maple Leaf Pro Wrestling:

“Canadian talent has to work twice as hard, three times as hard as U.S. talent … I think we can give that platform for Canadian talent to go out there and compete with the best in the world and show how good they are.”

WWE’s Bobby Lashley Reveals He Recently Had Surgery After ‘Freak Accident’ In France

Bobby Lashley’s time with WWE has come to an end, as he and former associate MVP have officially been moved to WWE’s “Alumni Section” on its website. This means that his last WWE match didn’t even happen on TV. Lashley was last seen in the ring at a WWE Live event in France on May 5, where he managed to pick up a win over Santos Escobar, despite suffering an injury during the bout.

On the “Laboratory” podcast, Lashley opened up about what he’s been doing since his last match, revealing that he had to go under the knife following the injury. “I had surgery. So a little boo boo happened in France during the match, just a freak accident. After that, I had my surgery, they told me I wasn’t suppose to be back for like six months. Six weeks, I had the brace off, I’m working out, my physical therapist is like ‘you’re not supposed to be able to do that,’ and I said ‘I’m different. I’m different bro.’ Like I’m working out, I’m lifting, and I don’t even think I’m two months out of surgery now, and I’m hitting it pretty hard. So I think I’ll be ready clear in less than a month.”

Regardless of where Lashley wrestles his next match, his comments about working out extra hard correlate to the reports that he will continue wrestling even after leaving WWE. Rumors have already surfaced about a potential Hurt Business reunion in AEW, but at the time of writing, Lashley’s future has still not yet been confirmed.

WWE And AEW To Run Orlando Shows Directly Opposite Each Other In December

WWE has announced a new live event in Orlando for December 28, the same day as AEW Worlds End 2024. Tony Khan’s promotion will be running its final pay-per-view event of the year from the Addition Financial Arena on December 28, meanwhile, WWE has announced a “WWE Live Holiday Tour” show on the same date just 15 miles away at the Kia Center.

This isn’t the first nor most significant instance of WWE and AEW booking shows on the same date as one another, with “AEW Dynamite: Title Tuesday” running head-to-head with “WWE NXT” on October 8. And fans will remember that “NXT” used to go head-to-head with “Dynamite” on Wednesdays every week from October 2019 until April 2021, in what came to be known as the “Wednesday Night War” in reference to WWE’s former rivalry with WCW. But it is a rare instance for the promotions to run the same city and date. Later this month, both companies will be running major events from Europe. AEW will present the second iteration of what’s seemingly becoming its WrestleMania, All In, from Wembley Stadium in London, England on August 25. Then, on August 31 WWE will present Bash In Berlin from the Uber Arena in Berlin, Germany, its first Premium Live Event in the country.

AEW All In 2025 Date And Venue Announced

Shortly before AEW began its residency for “AEW Collision” and Ring of Honor in Arlington, Texas’ Esports Stadium, rumors began to swirl that AEW could be holding an even bigger event in the area sometime in 2025. Now, with only one show remaining in the residency before “Collision” and “ROH” head out on the road again, that rumor has become reality.

At a press conference held in Arlington, it was announced that AEW All In would next year be held in Texas, taking place at Globe Life Field, home to Major League Baseball’s Texas Rangers. The show will be held on July 12, and will be the first ever wrestling event held in the baseball stadium, which officially opened only four years ago.

All In being held in Texas next year will end AEW’s two year run of holding the promotion in London, England’s Wembley Stadium, which will host the second All In just a week and a half from now. It will not be the last, however, as AEW owner Tony Khan confirmed at the press conference that AEW would return to London for 2026.

Should All In fill up Globe Life Field, it would give AEW their highest attended event ever in the US, as the baseball stadium can hold up to over 40,000 people, with its record so far being 43,598 people for a Morgan Waller concert in October 2022. It’s also another sign of AEW’s vast ambitions for 2025, as the promotion is also rumored to be holding a stadium sized show in Australia, which would mark AEW’s first foray into the country.

WWE Hall Of Famer Afa Anoa’i Passes Away At Age 81

WWE Hall of Famer Afa Anoa’i has died at the age of 81. Wrestling Observer’s Dave Meltzer broke the news on X, formerly Twitter, that Anoa’i passed away, claiming confirmation from the Anoa’i family. He leaves behind his wife Lynn and seven children. Reports of Anoa’i’s death spread the night before, based on a social media tribute from his son, Samu. Afa’s death comes nearly two months after the death of Sika Anoa’i, his brother and tag team partner.

“It is with deepest regret that we announce the passing of my father Afa Anoai Sr.,” his son Samu wrote on Facebook. “It was a peaceful transition and he was surrounded by loved ones. Please respect our privacy as we mourn our father.”

According to the Wrestling Observer, Afa had been recently admitted into hospice care and experienced two heart attacks while battling pneumonia in January.

“Our family has suffered another great loss with the passing of my uncle and WWE Hall of Famer, Gataivasā Afa Amituana’i Anoa’i,” Roman Reigns wrote on X on Friday. “We thank everyone for their support and are comforted by the fact that he now rests in peace. Afa and my father, Pola’ivao Leati Sika Anoa’I were loving brothers, the greatest tag team of their generation, and now they’re reunited together in heaven. Rest in Power Wild Samoans.”

Afa had his first match in 1971 after receiving training from Rocky Johnson and Peter Maivia. Afa then started teaming with his brother Sika. The two formed The Wild Samoans and went on to compete for Stampede Wrestling and numerous NWA territories. By the late 1970s, Afa and Sika joined WWF and were initially managed by Lou Albano. In April 1980, they defeated Ivan Putski and Tito Santana to capture their first WWF Tag Team Championship.

After leaving WWF to spend time in Mid-South, The Wild Samoans returned in 1983 and quickly regained the tag gold by defeating Chief Jay Strongbow and Jules Strongbow in a two-out-of-three falls bout. During his third stint that began in 1992, Afa managed The Headshrinkers, Samu and Rikishi. Afa’s last WWF match occurred in 1994 and The Wild Samoans were eventually inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2007.

Afa’s only worked a handful of matches since his initial retirement, with his last one taking place in 2014. Afa and Sika opened their own training facility and have been credited for their roles in training the likes of Hulk Hogan, Roman Reigns, and the Usos.

WWE issues statement on the passing of Afa Anoa’i:

WWE is saddened to learn that Afa Anoa’i Sr. — a WWE Hall of Famer and one-half of the iconic Wild Samoans tag team — has passed away.

Anoa’i was best known for teaming alongside his brother Sika Anoa’i as the legendary tag team The Wild Samoans. The siblings began teaming up in the 1970s, collecting accolades and championships in Stu Hart’s Stampede Wrestling promotion and the National Wrestling Alliance before debuting in WWE in 1979. The brothers dominated WWE in the 1980s, capturing the World Tag Team Championship three times and becoming known as one of the most feared teams in WWE history.

Afa returned to WWE in 1992 as the manager for The Headshrinkers, a team comprised of his son Samu and nephew Fatu, aka Rikishi, before retiring from WWE in 1995.

Afa and Sika later opened The Wild Samoan Training Facility, where the legendary duo would train future generations of WWE Superstars, including Batista. In 2007, The Wild Samoans were bestowed with the highest honor in sports-entertainment when they were inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame, where they will be forever enshrined as one of the greatest tag teams of all time.

WWE extends its condolences to Anoa’i’s family, friends and fans.

Report – AEW May Extend Contract Of Star With WWE interest

Previous reports suggest The Lucha Brothers (Penta El Zero Miedo and Rey Fenix) are expected to leave AEW for WWE when their contracts expire.

Penta’s AEW contract expires between August and September, while Fenix’s contract expires later this year.

Fightful previously reported that the Lucha Brothers may be interested in joining WWE as a tag team despite being offered a new deal by AEW. The terms AEW offers are similar to what Penta has conveyed that WWE is willing to provide.

According to sources within AEW, there were concerns that the Lucha Brothers did not adhere to proper business practices, which resulted in their departure from the company. Penta’s rejection of the reports is believed to have been a strategic move to facilitate Fenix’s departure from AEW without contractual impediments.

The Wrestling Observer Newsletter shared an update on the concern within AEW regarding their right to extend Fenix’s contract for an additional year due to his time off for injuries.

There was speculation about Penta heading to Orlando, FL, leading fans to speculate that he might be heading to the WWE Performance Center despite still being contracted to AEW.
