Jerry “The King” Lawler Says He Will Continue To Wrestle Despite Needing A Double Knee Replacement Operation

WWE Hall of Famer Jerry “The King” Lawler revealed on a recent episode of his Dinner With The King podcast that he needs a double knee replacement operation.

Lawler said he will not undergo the surgery and he still plans on to keep wrestling, but he is undergoing other treatments to help with the constant pain.

Lawler talked about receiving the bad news from a recent visit to his orthopedic surgeon. They originally thought that he could undergo arthroscopic surgery to give him some relief but he underwent an MRI and x-rays, which revealed that he’s “bone on bone” and needs to have the replacement surgery on both knees.

“They’re not gone, you can still do whatever you want to do,” Lawler said of his knees. “You can still do whatever you want to do, it’s just very painful. There’s a lot of pain and the fact that your knee joints are bone on bone, instead of having cartilage or whatever that stuff is, that is supposed to cushion between your upper bone and your lower bone.”

Lawler said he will continue to wrestle and get shots to help with the pain. He joked, “I’m just going to suffer through it.”

Chelsea Green Suffers Injury During NXT TV Taping

Former Impact Wrestling star Chelsea Green wrestled at Full Sail University last night for the first time during the NXT TV tapings and suffered an injury in her match.

Green announced the injury via social media and wrote:

Today I had the opportunity to wrestle for the first time at Full Sail for WWE NXT, after years of dreaming of it! Wow, it was everything I had imagined it would be!!! Of course, with this job comes occupational hazards. Unfortunately, I broke my wrist mid-match & will require surgery first thing tomorrow morning. It sucks. I’m upset, I’m angry, I’m sore… but I’ll be back soon. This is just a tiny bump in the road to many goals I have set for 2019! Oh yeah…I won the match.

Chelsea Green signed with WWE in October 2018.

Jim Ross Applies For New Trademark As His WWE Departure Nears

On March 7, 2019, WWE Hall Of Famer Jim Ross applied for a new trademark with the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

Under Ross’s business entity, J.R.’s Blackhat Enterprises, LLC, which also owns the intellectual property behind Ross’s barbecue products, book, and stage shows, the professional wrestling veteran has applied to trademark ‘The Voice Of Wrestling’.

According to Ross’s application, the trademark is to be used for live and personal appearances, and podcasts, including video podcasts.

This news comes hot off the heels of Ross’s announcement that he will be parting ways with WWE at the end of March 2019. Moreover, in recent weeks, Ross has stated that he will likely begin a new podcasting project with pro wrestling superfan and entrepreneur Conrad Thompson, which will replace the current incarnation of Westwood One’s Jim Ross Report.

“It’s moving along well,” Ross said of the new venture on The Jim Ross Report recently. “It looks as if, unless something happens in the 11th hour, it’s going to be a go. If it goes like Conrad and I have strategized and gameplanned it, it will replace this format and I’ll keep you posted on that. It’ll replace this format and make it better, so I’m looking forward to that. Conrad has done a great job with Eric Bischoff and Tony Schiavone [on their respective podcasts].”

Tenille Dashwood’s ROH Contract Expiring Soon

Pro Wrestling Sheet reports that Tenille Dashwood could soon become a free agent as her Ring of Honor contract expires at the end of the month.

Sources close to the situation say Tenille is currently in negotiations with Ring of Honor to potentially ink a new contract, but as of this week nothing has been signed. That means her upcoming appearances in Las Vegas could be her last with the company.

Dashwood signed on to join the Women of Honor in February 2018.

Tenille — formerly known as Emma in WWE — started in-ring training recently to prepare for her return after undergoing shoulder surgery months back. If she re-signs with ROH, we’re told Dashwood’s in-ring return could take place at G1 Supercard.

SmackDown Live In-Ring Promo – Randy Orton Disses Indies, AJ Styles Defends Them

During a segment last night on SmackDown Live, Randy Orton wonders how this could be The House that AJ Styles Built. Orton says in 2002, he was making his WWE debut while AJ was wrestling for $10 per night in a local gym with 12 people in the crowd. In 2004, AJ was working bingo halls while Orton was becoming the youngest WWE Champion. In 2005, AJ was in Florida getting a tan with Dixie Carter while Orton was going up against The Undertaker. He did not name TNA or Impact Wrestling, just the Dixie name-drop. And every year after that, Orton was here in WWE at the top, winning titles. Orton says this is not the house that AJ built, it was built long before AJ stepped foot in it. Orton goes on until the music interrupts and out comes AJ to a pop.

AJ says for someone who looks down on the indies, Orton sure did follow his career closely. AJ says he’s proud he came from the indies. AJ says he’s heard guys like Orton look down on AJ’s world but that’s fine because Orton would not have made it in his world. AJ points to Orton’s signature pose and says he has a knock-off Diamond Cutter. Orton points to how AJ and The Bullet Club, his pals, ripped off the “Too Sweet” gesture. AJ goes on about how Orton had help his whole career, especially on as Triple H, Batista and WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair made sure he wouldn’t fail. Orton defends his accomplishments and goes over some highlights from his career. Orton says no one has ever had to help him get… AJ interrupts and reminds Orton of Evolution, Legacy, Rated RKO, The Wyatt Family. AJ says it sounds like Orton had a lot of babysitters over the years.

AJ says don’t get him wrong, Orton is who he says he is – he’s a viper who uses everyone around him and then tosses them to the curb when he’s done. AJ says that’s why he got the jump on Orton with the attack at Fastlane, because he won’t be Orton’s next victim. Orton says AJ has no choice as long as he wants to rent a room where Orton is the landlord. Orton says rent is due, b—h, and AJ can make the check out to three letters… RKO. Orton drops the mic and goes to leave but AJ says if Orton wants his rent, he can come and take it. AJ points up at the WrestleMania 35 sign as he says this. They stare each other down and Orton looks up at the WrestleMania sign. Graves wonders if Orton will accept the challenge. Orton exits the ring and stares AJ down as AJ’s music hits.

Kurt Angle Announces He’ll Wrestle “Farewell Match” At WrestleMania 35

Last night on WWE RAW, WWE Hall of Famer Kurt Angle in his hometown of Pittsburgh announced that he will wrestle his farewell match at WrestleMania 35 on April 7th.

Angle then wrestled one final match in his hometown, defeating Apollo Crews.

There is no word yet on who Angle will wrestle in his farewell match at WrestleMania.

Luke Gallows & Karl Anderson Reportedly Leaving WWE After Turning Down Deals

There’s now speculation on Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson possibly leaving WWE later this year.

Gallows and Anderson have reportedly turned down multi-million dollar contracts from WWE, according to PWInsider. Word is that The Good Brothers are now planning on leaving WWE when their current contracts expire.

It was reported back in December that they deals will expire in late September 2019, but then it was believed that they would be re-signing instead of returning to New Japan Pro Wrestling. This was before AEW potentially entered the picture.

We’ve noted how WWE officials have been approaching talents about signing new contracts as of late. Gallows and Anderson had multiple meetings with officials but word came out over the last few days that they turned down new deals. They are looking to leave WWE because they aren’t satisfied with how they have been used in recent years, according to the report.

It was also noted that Gallows and Anderson are brought to TV, but they aren’t currently being booked for non-televised live events. One source claimed to PWI that they were removed from the live event tours after initial contract meetings that didn’t lead to a new agreement between the two sides.

The Good Brothers are rarely featured on WWE TV these days. The former RAW Tag Team Champions lost to Rusev and Shinsuke Nakamura on the February 5 SmackDown episode and then they lost to SmackDown Tag Team Champions The Usos on the December 18 episode. They haven’t been used much since being brought to SmackDown from RAW after WrestleMania 34 last year. They had a “Botch Club” WWE Digital series premiere earlier this year but it was nixed after the premiere episode.

The WWE futures of Gallows and Anderson were a hot topic backstage at this week’s SmackDown. While a lot can change between now and late September, word going around the wrestlers this week is that Gallows and Anderson are determined to continue their pro wrestling careers outside of WWE.

Dick “The Destroyer” Beyer Dead At 88

This week, the pro wrestling world lost another legend.

Kurt Beyer, son of pro wrestling legend Dick “The Destroyer” Beyer, took to Facebook on Thursday to announce the passing of his father.

Kurt wrote the following:

“It is with a very heavy heart to let you know that Dad — aka The Destroyer, aka Doctor X, aka Dick Beyer, aka Coach — passed away shortly past Noon today. He was in bed at home, and was surrounded by all of his children and wife as he slipped peacefully away. I will have more to share later, but wanted you to hear this sad news from me first. Thoughts and prayers are most welcome at this time. Peace. (The Destroyer – Honoring A Wrestling Legend! The Destroyer (wrestler))”

Check out the complete statement via his Facebook page below.

Beyer had been in hospice care in recent weeks and was surrounded by loved ones as his health was diminishing.

Beyer, 88, had a career spanning over four decades that included over 8,000 matches in the United States and Japan. During it’s span, Beyer held the NWA North American Heavyweight Championship in both Hawaii and the Pacific Northwest, as well as the American Wrestling Assosication’s Heavyweight title. He’s also been a NWA United States Heavyweight Champion for the central states, a NWA World Tag Team Champion in Texas, a NWA International Television Tag Team Champion in L.A., and a NWA Pacific Northwest Tag Team Champion.

As part of the classic All Japan Pro Wrestling, Beyer held the Asia Tag Team Championship with partner, Billy Red Lyons and he also held the PWF United States Heavyweight Championship on four separate occasions.

Beyer was also inducted in to the George Tragos/Lou Thesz Professional Wrestling Hall of Fame in 2002, and he was officially inducted in to the Professional Wrestling Hall of Fame and Museum in 2005.

In the aforementioned Facebook post, Beyer’s son, Kurt wrote, “It is with a very heavy heart to let you know that Dad — aka the Destroyer, aka Doctor X, aka Dick Beyer, aka Coach — passed away shortly past noon today. He was in bed at home, and was surrounded by all of his children and wife as he slipped peacefully away. I will have more to share later, but wanted you to hear this sad news from me first. Thoughts and prayers are most welcome at this time. Peace.”

WWE has since issued out a statement on Beyer’s passing. The statement reads:

WWE is saddened to learn that Dick Beyer, a masked wrestling pioneer who was better known to ring fans as The Destroyer, has passed away at age 88.Beginning his career in the 1950s, Beyer thrilled fans and terrified opponents for three decades. He came to prominence in the Los Angeles territory, where he rivaled the likes of Freddie Blassie and Gorgeous George. Beyer famously defeated the latter in a Hair vs. Mask Match at the hallowed Olympic Auditorium in 1962, resulting in Gorgeous George losing his trademark golden locks.

Beyer achieved perhaps his greatest notoriety, however, in Japan, becoming one of the first foreign attractions in the country. His 1963 match against Rikid?zan, a former sumo wrestler and cultural icon in Japan, drew the eyes of more than 70 million TV viewers, making it one of the most-watched bouts in history. Beyer eventually became a beloved figure in Japanese pop culture himself and was even a regular performer on a top-ranked variety show.

Beyer also made waves in the now-defunct American Wrestling Association under the alias “Doctor X,” capturing the territory’s heavyweight title from Verne Gagne in 1968. As Doctor X, he wore a different but no less menacing mask, and his veiled countenance became immortalized when Blondie lead singer Debbie Harry was once photographed onstage wearing a shirt with his likeness on it.

A regional sports hero in upstate New York, Beyer wrestled and played football at Syracuse University before turning to the ring. His impact in sports-entertainment was felt long after his retirement, too, as Beyer is credited with training former WWE Tag Team Champion Mike Rotundo.

WWE extends its condolences to Beyer’s family, friends and fans.
