Playing Fair With Roman Reigns

Many fans were upset when Roman Reigns won the Royal Rumble. Some cited their reasons for being so upset with the fact that they believe the WWE was pushing him on them too hard. Some claimed that he wasn’t ready yet. He wasn’t that good on the mic and wasn’t that good in the ring. As a way to appease the fans, the WWE put Reigns’ spot in WrestleMania against Brock Lesnar (which he won by winning the Royal Rumble) for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship on the line at WWE’s Fastlane against fan favorite Daniel Bryan.

In the end, Reigns was once again victorious. While what fans have said about Reigns can be seen as true, it wouldn’t be fair to Reigns to win the Royal Rumble just to have it taken away from him. TVTropes.com defines this as Retcon. It’s a situation when past plot points are reframed to meet whatever the current needs are for the story. While it would have been a possible and plausible alternative, the boos didn’t seem to be as uproarious in the weeks following Reigns’ victory. It was as if fans learned to deal with it, and that would be the best thing to do, a thought that may be seen as an unpopular opinion.

If WWE would have followed this method more often, John Cena may have had only a few title reigns, even though he is such a talented performer. Persistent cries for change can make a difference, but the flame of hate towards Reigns seemed to die down. Sure, the Internet wasn’t happy when Daniel Bryan lost, but at least they can remember the joy when he won at WrestleMania as an underdog only a year ago. There’s other matches at WrestleMania and many events have double main-events. It’s not the end of the world. While he may not have been the guy many wanted at this time, perhaps the Lesnar/Reigns feud will be a surprise hit.

The Rock was booed unmercifully when he was new in the 90’s. Now he’s a legend of the business. Who know what’ll come of having Roman Reigns in the main event title picture at WrestleMania but even with the potential retcon hurdle along the way, plans are seeming to stay to as they were in January and hopefully we’re all in for a great surprise.

The Bella’s vs Paige and AJ at mania?

It’s that time again to take a trip into the rumor mill. The feeling backstage is that the divas match at mania will be the Bella’s vs Paige and AJ. AJ’s return this past Monday seems to almost have cemented that claim, so looks like my buddy Trevor may be on to something here.

AJ Lee had been absent for 3 months after dropping the tittle to the current champion Nikki Bella. In a backstage segment AJ said “since her enemy is now the enemy of her enemy that Paige and her are now friends”. Had a hard time keeping up with that tongue  twister? What AJ means is that she’s willing to look past the differences her and Paige may have had to take down a common enemy in the Bella’s.

A lot of people backstage where unsure of how AJ’s return would be recieved especially since Stephanie McMahon was legitimately upset and embarrassed over AJ calling her out in a tweet regarding the unfair treatment of the divas.

Putting all that aside though Stephanie knows that AJ’s return is “what’s best for business and knows full well that a match like this is needed at mania. All and all I hope this means that a lengthy divas match is set for mania. Paige and AJ are the wrestling communities darlings and the Bella’s have improved tremendously and right now the “Bella Army” is stronger then ever. Add these four women to a 15+ minute march and they will be sure to tear Levi’s stadium down

AJ Lee returns

Yesterday Monday Night Raw took place from Newhawk New Jersey. There was a divas title rematch from Fastlane which featured the champion Nikki Bella taking on the challenger Paige. To our delight the match was nearly 15 mins and the crowd got into it as well. At one point during the match it looked like Paige was going to become a 3 time divas champion by submitting Nikki via PTO but Brie Bella made sure that didn’t happen, breaking it up causing the DQ

As usual the Bella’s were looking to double team Paige which they succeeded in for awhile and this sent the crowd into a frenzy of “AJ” chants. The Jersey crowd soon got what they wanted when the familiar tune of “light it up” filled the arena and the hometown hero herself AJ Lee came charging down the ring. Yes ladies and gents instead of skipping AJ ran to the ring.

Once in the ring AJ started whaling away on Brie Bella but the numbers gain seemed to be to much as Nikki blindsided AJ getting the uperhand, that didn’t last forever though because  Paige then comes to the aid of AJ. The frenemies then do a little double trouble of their own to clear the ring and send the Bella’s running scared.

This moment was great and showed that when executed properly the divas can have some mark out worthy moments too. Now that AJ is back what does it say for the divas divison? Could this mean a Bella’s vs Paige and AJ match at mania? Would it mean that AJ and Paige can be the next legit women’s team aside from the Bella’s?(site owner Trevor Decker seems to think so) You know what they say keep your friends close and your enemies closer.

We must take into consideration that a program with Stephanie vs AJ has been something the WWE universe has wanted for quite sometime and with the exchange on Twitter that AJ and Stephanie had last week it would be great for WWE to capitalize on that.

Whatever is next for the WWE divas after last nights turn of events it looks like it’s going to be great. After all there was a backstage exchange involving both Paige and AJ where AJ said quote: “here to give divas a chance, can the AJ and Paige tag team that Trevor believes in to over more then their feud did and can it be what’s needed to take the divas to new highs? Looks like we’ll have to watch to find out

Madusa (Alundra Blayze) to Be Inducted Into WWE Hall Of Fame

It was announced on RAW that former Women’s Wrestling Champion Madusa (Alundra Blayze) will be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame Class of 2015.

It’s hard for me to refer to her as Alundra Blayze because to me she’ll always be Madusa. She competed in WWE as Alundra Blayze, so I understand why she is being inducted under that name.

Madusa was probably the first women’s wrestler that I seen that made me realize that women can perform in the world of professional wrestling on the same level as the men. Madusa helped make women’s wrestling what it is today.

Congratulation Madusa on this achievement, it is well deserved.

Royalty invades Ring of Honor

Yesterday  ROH heald their 13th anniversary PPV live from Las Vegas. One of the matches on that card was  the Young Bucks taking on the Tag Team champions reDRagons. During this match something very special happened, reDRagon had a certain queen acompony them to the ring and that Queen was none other then the Queen of Spades Shayna Baszler.

Anyone who has been following this site for the last year knows that Shayna is one of our biggest supporters and a good friend; so I speak for everyone here when I say it was indeed a huge mark out moment.

One thing that I loved was that the commentators made sure that fans knew who she was by highlighting the fact that she is a pioneer of WMMA and a catch wrestler. The match many great moments but here is a break down of Baszler’s involvement and what it lead to.

The crowd was upset at Fish for even kicking out.More Bang For Your Buck almost got the three, but Baszler pulls the ref out. The Bucks chase down Baszler, but Kyle comes out of nowhere and takes them out. A big tornado DDT sets up a top rope Falcon Arrow from Fish. Chasing the Dragon doesn’t get the pin as Matt Jackson pulls the ref out! ReDRagon keeps the advantage with a DDT/wheelbarrow suplex keeps the advantage, followed by Chasing the Dragon for the 3 count.

There you have it folks legendary Shayna Baszler had a hand in a great victory. Could this be a sign of more to come? We all know Baszler has a love for Professinal wrestling and I know I wouldn’t mind seeing her in the squared circle. Only time will tell.

One thing is for sure though we here at WrestlingNewsBlog couldn’t be any happier for Shayna and we are honored that we get to share this moment with you all

Vince Russo Opens Up About His Departure From His Own Website

As noted earlier, Vince Russo announced that he is no longer a part of Pyro & Ballyhoo, the website that he started last May. Russo released the 26 minute video above regarding his departure.

Russo started off by spoofing stories about his departure while taking with “Fast Eddie” on the phone, referencing his former writing partner, Ed Ferrara. At the 6:53 mark Russo starts to discuss what happened.

Apparently Russo had someone create the site and his Twitter account for him and he was told last Wednesday that there were issues with the site. On Friday evening Russo was going to post a story about the Hulk Hogan appreciation night at Madison Square Garden and realized he was locked out of the site. He had an idea it was coming, so he changed his Twitter password, only for it to be reset by someone else. He said that he has been locked out of his Twitter account since Saturday morning. His lawyer is working on it, and he expects to regain control of his Twitter account next week.

Russo added that subscribers to his website were automatically charged for their monthly subscriptions via PayPal, and that he hopes their money will be returned. He re-iterated that he is no longer part of the site and that he will not be providing any content for that site.
