The world of professional wrestling reacts to the sudden passing of Chyna

Regardless of what your personal opinions may be on Chyna there is no denying she changed the game for not only women of professional wrestling but men as well.

She was in a league of her own. Last night moving into the early morning of today is a tough one for the wrestling world. It almost doesn’t feel real. Maybe it’s just because being such big Chyna fans we don’t want to accept it.

Right now the number one trend on Twitter is #RIPChyna as it should be. We here at WNB have took it upon ourselves to compile some of those tweets but really each one is a beautiful tribute and we encourage you to look through them:

Perhaps though the most heartbreaking tribute comes from Mick Foley as he took to his Facebook account this morning to pay tribute to his friend saying:

GOODBYE JOANIE

My heart is aching. My eyes are swollen from crying, having just talked to Joan Laurer’s manager Anthony Anzaldo on the phone and been told that Chyna, the 9th Wonder of the World was no longer with us; gone at only 45.

I will always be grateful for the friendship I shared with her, but particularly so for the kindness she showed my children, especially Noelle when she was younger. I will never forget those moments where Joanie would take Noelle by the hand at WWE events in the late 90’s – off to have her makeup done, her fingernails painted; bonding time between big, strong Joanie, and her tiny sidekick. A father doesn’t forget that type of kindness.

I didn’t know whether to post a classic photo of Chyna in her WWE prime or of Joanie from the last time I saw her – about 10 months ago at a convention on Long Island. I went with the photo from the convention because of the emotion; because it was taken at the exact moment I saw her for the first time in many years. I was told later that Joanie wasn’t sure how I would react to her, and that it meant a great deal to her to be accepted. Like I said, a father doesn’t forget. I called home on my way back from the convention – only about 40 minutes from my house. “I’m bringing a friend over to watch the pay-per-view” I said to my wife.

“Who’s that?”, my wife asked.

“Chyna”

“Chyna?”

“Yeah, Chyna!”

And that was pretty much that. A mother, you see, doesn’t forget the kindness shown to her child, either.
I am so glad we had that night with Joanie. A night to let her know how much we cared about her, whether it was politically correct or not. A night to let her know we loved her – and always would. RIP my dear friend. I pray that somehow in death, you can find the peace that eluded you so frequently during the latter years of your remarkable life.

As you can see the general consensus is that Joanie (Chyna) was a remarkable person, and she touched the hearts of everyone she knew.  No longer hurting and finally at peace. Long live the 9th wonder of the world

John Cena set to host new reality TV show: American Grit

When it was announced that John Cena would be taking some time off from WWE, some rejoiced while others were bummed. The question remained why? Was it an injury? Exhaustion? Personal issues?

Well now thanks to a tweet from the man himself we have the answer. “This just in I’m honored to host the new reality competition series #AmericanGrit – guiding 16 men & women as we work together to face a variety of military and survival-themed challenges. Coming soon to FOX!”

This is some exciting news. Cena has always showed his love and respect for the military so em announcement like this hardly comes as a surprise.

It’ll be interesting to see how the show plays out and if the show can do well based on just Cena’s star power alone, more over if the WWE will gain a new audience because of the show. Either way it’s a smart business move.

Lana issues statement on injury

It is being reported that WWE diva Lana sustained a wrist injury while training for her first in ring match. Word going around is that there was suppose to be a mixed tag match at Night of Champions pinning Lana and Ziggler to go up against the team of Rusev and Summer Rae. Now due to Lana’s injury that won’t be the case.

Lana took to Twitter and Instagram to address her injury. She had this to say: “I have dedicated my entire life to becoming the best sports entertainer I could be. Ever since I have debuted in @wwe I have continued to go to @wwenxt & come hours early before live events to train & learn how to fight. I wanted my first match to make the #WWE Universe proud. My wrist fracture is proof that WWE & professional wrestling is not fake but very real. This is a bump in the road & can be discouraging but for every person that has believed in me and has ever chanted #WeWantLana I will keep going. From here forward I will share every part of my journey to my first match. Thank you to every fan that has cheered for me & chanted my name, you all give me the strength to be brave. I will continue to give everything I have to becoming one of the greatest women in WWE & entertainment.”

Lana is expected to be out from anywhere between 4-6 months. We here at Wrestling news blog. Would like to send Lana positive vibes and hopes for a speedy recovery

Breaking news: Rousey vs Holm moved to UFC193

Tonight on Sports center UFC president Dana White made the announcement that Ronda Rousey will be defending her Batemweight title against Holly Holm at UFC193 from Melbourne Australia.

The fight was originally set to take place at UFC195 for the UFC’s New Years card on January 2nd in Las Vegas NV.

The original main event for UFC193 was scheduled to be Robbie Lawler vs Carlos Condit. However due to an injury Lawler will be unable to compete. Rousey and Holm are being brought in as a replacement to break what looks to be an all time attendance record.

The Revolution Begins

Nearly a week later and I’m still on a high about the happenings of Monday night Raw last week. Anyone who has been following this site for the past 3 years would know two things: I’m a huge WWE mark and I LOVE Women’s wrestling.
I’ve been watching the WWE ever since 1994, this year I turn 24 so that’s nearly all my life. As a WWE fan I’ve experienced the highs and lows, there’s been times where I’ve been down right ashamed to say “I watch the WWE” and there’s been other times where I’ve said “I’m FN proud to be a WWE fan. Last Monday was one of those nights.
If you haven’t guessed what segment I’m referring to let me catch you up to speed. For weeks on end The Bella’s and Alicia Fox have been tormenting Paige with 3 on 1 beatings and last week Stephanie McMahon had seen enough.
The segment started with Paige, The Bella’s, Fox and Stephanie all in the ring. Stephanie brings up the 3 on 1 attacks and mentions that all this time Paige has been alone and it’s time she got some help. Then out comes the Lass Kicker Becky Lynch!!!

“But wait” Stephanie says. “the numbers are still uneven,” then out comes genetically superior Charlotte!!!! This is followed by Naomi and Tamina making their way down the ramp. Naomi says that she won’t be forgotten about, but wait there’s only two of them, again making numbers uneven. Who could possibly side with Naomi and Tamina???? None other then the NXT women’s champion THE BOSS Sasha Banks!!!!

The ring is filled 9 amazing women wrestlers plus an Athority figure in Stephanie McMahon, that’s 10 women who have been changing the corse of women’s wrestling. Stephanie then goes on to say that this is an opportunity that their time is now and she wants to see who’s going to take it.
All the while the three teams are in an epic stare down to with the crowd erupts in a “this is awesome chant” Then a brawl breaks loose with all women gunning for one another and ultimately it ends with Sasha, Charlotte and Becky putting the i submissions (Bank statement, the figure 8, and the armbar) on The Bella’s and Alicia.
If you are a friend of mine on Facebook or at the very least follow my post you would’ve saw my status that said “I haven’t felt this way since Lita returned after being out a year and a half with a broken neck” AND I MENT IT.
For years the WWE has been producing underwhelming Women stroylines and then the good ones always get dropped way too soon or often become repetitive. This moment on Monday night Raw though showed that change is on the horizon and that the future is indeed now.
The response on social media has been all positive. The response that night was also proof that something was done right. From everything to the “this is awesome chants” to the huge pops each girl received. I mean it was so good that even Michael Cole used the term “women’s wrestling”

Mind you, living on the west coast and having time Warner cable I get a delayed Raw, so I knew what was going to happen AND I WAS STILL marking out and I even got the chills!
It was an awesome moment that myself along with fellow fans won’t forget for a long while. On Twitter Stephanie mentioned that women have been revolutionizing the world of sports and it was about time the WWE caught up. I couldn’t agree more and I believe that after this segment that door has swung wide open and these women are about to come rushing through it.
We used to live in a time where the women’s matches were used as bathroom breaks, but now that’s not the case. A meme on Facebook said it best: “Bathroom Break???, you better hold that sh**” I’m so thankful to Stephanie and Hunter for grabbing the bull by the horns, going against the grain and even agreeing to disagree with the all mighty Vince McMahon all to prove that women CAN carry a company, they CAN, put on stellar matches, they CAN get a crowd reaction and they DESERVE respect.
The future is a bright one and I am so damn excited.

Jon Jones suspended indefinitely

After being involved in a hit and run Sunday morning in Albuquerque New Mexico UFC Light Heavyweight champion Jon Jones has been stripped of his title and has been suspended indefinitely from the UFC. Jones was arrested on Monday in Albuquerque on allegations of leaving the scene of an accident, which is a felony charge in New Mexico due to one of the drivers suffering a fractured wrist and arm. The injured driver, later identified as Vanessa Sonnenberg, was taken to the hospital because she is pregnant and felt like she might pass out at the scene.

UFC president Dana White made the announcement regarding Jones  via FOX Sports Live on Tuesday night. White Dana white said he had a chance to speak with Jones early on Tuesday before the promotion took any action against him. White had this to say.
“He didn’t say a lot. Obviously, he’s got to handle his legal proceedings,

“His lawyer didn’t have him say much. What we wanted to find out is what the facts were. There’s a lot of things that are being said out there about what happened that day, a lot of them are untrue, a lot of them are speculation, and we wanted to hear Jon’s side of the story and we wanted to hear what his lawyer had to say about it.”

Now with Jon Jones being out of UFC187 the new main event will now be Daniel Cormier vs Anthony Johnson for the light heavyweight title.

Dana white Also said that “Jones is obviously very disappointed about what happened. He wanted to go down as the greatest of all time but it is what it is and we had to make the right call.”

At this moment Jon Jone’s future with the UFC is up in the air. Jones has yet to speak out publicly on the situation but he did send out this tweet.

What are your thoughts on the situation? And further more who do you want as the new Light Heavyweight champion?

Kevin Owens injury

it was reported at wrestlinginc.com and various news sites that NXT champion Kevin Owens underwent surgery late last week to prepare a knee injury. The champion tweeted the following regarding his current situation

http://t.co/JH0WB7K5hE Yes, I had knee surgery. No, it won’t slow me down. Why? Because I’m Kevin Owens, silly! #SoonToBeBetterThanEver

— Kevin Owens (@FightOwensFight) March 16, 2015

It was also reported that Owens has already began rehab but there is yet to be a time table for his return.

All of us here wish Owens a speedy recovery.

AJ Lee Speaks out against unfair treatment of the divas

Earlier today we posted an article on the site discussing the Twitter trend #GiveDivasAChance and the importance of those words. Often times WWE fans are very vocal about the change they want to see but more often then not are ignored. What happenens though when one of WWE’s biggest stars speak up to the powers that be?

That’s exactly what happened today when former two time divas champion AJ Lee tweeted to Stephanie McMahon. The tweet read

“@StephMcMahon Your female wrestlers have record selling merchandise & have starred in the highest rated segment of the show several times”

Followed by

“@StephMcMahon And yet they receive a fraction of the wages & screen time of the majority of the male roster. #UseYourVoice”

Folks hell has frozen over because for once in a very long time I agree 100% with what AJ had to say. In fact before this tweet was even sent out my best friend and I had a conversation in which we agreed that if an AJ return is what it takes to get the divas back on the map then we’re all for it. However with AJ’s future in the WWE being unknown who knows when and if that’ll even happen.

Can this tweet from AJ be what sparks the catalyst for change? Is AJ Lee “the voice of the voiceless” of the divas division? Can this tweet lead up to a possible AJ vs Stephanie McMahon match in the future? So many questions are left to be answered.

One thing is Forsure though the powers that be can’t ignore so many screaming voices forever
