Ole Anderson, founding Member of The Four Horseman, Passed Away at Age 81

A founding member of The Four Horsemen and one of the biggest heels from the territory area of wrestling, Ole Anderson, has died. Ricky Morton shared the news of Anderson’s death via his Instagram account last night.

“Rest in Paradise, Ole Anderson,” Morton wrote. “You taught me so much in professional wrestling. You were tough as nails. You will be missed, my friend.”

During last night’s “WWE RAW,” Michael Cole acknowledged Anderson’s death on air before a graphic was shown. Anderson famously hated Vince McMahon (and vice versa) after he took over GCW in 1984.

Anderson, whose real name was Alan Robert Rogowski, was 81 years old. Following his wrestling career, Anderson worked as a booker for Georgia Championship Wrestling and Jim Crockett Promotions, notably beefing with Vince McMahon over the takeover of GCW in 1984.

Eventually, Anderson would wind up as part of WCW’s executive team but kept to his word as far as McMahon goes, reportedly refusing to agree to participate in documentaries and WWE Hall of Fame presentations, still hanging on to the animosity stemming from McMahon’s territory takeover.

Anderson’s spot as an original Horseman next to Ric Flair, Tully Blanchard, and Arn Anderson, managed by J.J. Dillon, was ultimately ceded to Lex Luger in 1987. He was also part of the Minnesota Wrecking Crew, alongside his kayfabe brother Gene Anderson, replacing Lars Anderson (also not related) in the group upon his departure from the territory. In 2007, it was reported that Anderson had been diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis although there is no word as of yet as to an exact cause of death.

At the same time, WWE posted about Anderson’s death, as did AEW and NWA.

AEW and the wrestling world mourn the passing of the legendary Ole Anderson. Our thoughts are with his family, his friends and his fans.

Fellow Horsemen, Ric Flair said that he was “forever grateful for giving me the opportunity to become who I am today.” Veteran journalist Dave Melzter commented on the impact of Anderson on the pro wrestling industry.

Sorry to hear about the death of Ole Anderson. One of the major characters in pro wrestling of the 70s and 80s. Excellent talker and great heel.

The NWA Adds Another Promotion To Its List Of Territories

The National Wrestling Alliance has added a new promotion to its territories — Joe Cazana Promotions. The promotion announced its new working relationship on the social media site, X, formerly known as Twitter.

“Did you see the big announcement? JCP is now officially a territory of the National Wrestling Alliance! Now along with @ExoProWrestling, they’ll be a part of growing the Alliance and developing the next generation of professional wrestlers! @CazanaJoe @Billy,” wrote NWA.

The owner of the promotion and its namesake, Joe Cazana, who wrestled in the NWA and WCW in the late ’80s and early ’90s, also reacted to the news on X.

“I’m so very humbled and appreciative of @Billy and all the super talent that made last night possible. Special thanks to @drtomprichard @TheRealTMurdoch @MissaKate23 @JoeGalliNews @nwa and there in spirit @KyleDavisATL now it’s time to get to work. NWA/JCP Southeast,” wrote Cazana.

JCP was created in 2017 in the Tennessee area. The promotion and the NWA held a joint event this past Saturday, “How Coalfield Stole Christmas” in Coalfield, Tennessee. Scheduled to appear at the event were several NWA stars including the current NWA World Junior Heavyweight Champion Colby Corino, former two-time NWA World Heavyweight Champion Trevor Murdoch, NWA World Women’s Champion Kenzie Page, the former NWA United States Tag Team Champions Country Gentleman (A.J. Cazana and Anthony Andrews), and NWA World Television Champion Mims. It was at this event that the NWA first announced that JCP was going to be part of one of the company’s territories.

The NWA’s next big live event is PARANOIA, which will be on January 13, 2024, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

NWA Powerrr Quietly Added To The CW App – No Official Announcement Made

NWA Powerrr has been quietly added to the The CW App.

On Tuesday, eight episodes from the current 15th season were listed to the “Recently Added” list. As of now, no official announcement has been made.

Additionally, searching for the ‘NWA’ or ‘Powerrr’ does not bring up the show.

The following episodes are currently featured on the app:

* “The New Era”
* “New Era, Old Problems”
* “The Dark Carnival”
* “The G Gets The Love”
* “Keep Your Enemies Close”
* “When TV Stars Align”
* “Musical Chairs”
* “See You In Hell!”

For what it’s worth, “The New Era” is episode 124. This week’s episode, titled “Who’s The Turkey Now?,” is episode 135. So things appear to be out of order.

There is said to be a lot of “confusion” among those who work with the National Wrestling Alliance, as most expected there to be some sort of official announcement made. The belief among many was that Powerrr would always air before the planned reality show, but it wasn’t expected to happen until early 2024.

Finally, it was added that it’ll be “interesting to see how Billy reacts to this.”

In other NWA news, Mims will defend the NWA National Championship on next week’s episode of NWA Powerrr. You can check out the updated lineup for the show below:

NWA National Heavyweight Championship Match: Mims vs. Carson Drake
* Tiffany Nieves vs. Ruthie Jay
* Tim Storm & Jax Dane vs. Trevor Murdoch & Paul Burchill
* Bryan Idol & Natalia Markova vs. Thom Latimer & Kamille

NWA’s Billy Corgan Doubles Down On Having TV Deals With Top 20 Network

Before the recent announcement of WWE NXT’s move to the CW Network in 2024, there were talks of the NWA brand being picked up by The CW for its Powerrr series and a reality show. However, a controversial skit featuring cocaine with Father James Mitchell may have hindered the NWA’s chances of securing a deal with the network.

Billy Corgan stood firm about their TV deals with a top 20 TV network still in place during a recent interview on 102.5 The Bone’s Drew Garabo Live.

“Yeah, I like to say, first and foremost, we are a television content producer,” Corgan began. That’s really wrestling in the 21st century, television first and everything else second. That’s not to say the second is not important, but if you can’t drive from television down, you’re gonna have a hard time building an audience. Certainly being on national television in any capacity, digital or otherwise, broadcast network, that’s how you reach the most people.

Going into a market like Sarasota as we’ll be on next Saturday after next, having people have a routine way to reach your television product is part of what makes people want to come see the matches. We are free on YouTube, but the way YouTube works and the way people’s schedules are, unless they go looking for stuff, they may not even know you’re there.

So yeah, TV deals are at the core of it and there’s been a ton of speculation lately. I stand by what I said: We have two TV deals with a top 20 network, that’s all I can say for now. There’s lots of speculation that that’s not true but I can stand here and say, hand on heart, that is absolutely true.”

Billy Corgan Dismisses Report Of NWA Samhain Segment Upsetting The CW Executives

As we previously reported, a rumored television deal between the National Wrestling Alliance and The CW Network is apparently in jeopardy following a controversial segment that took place at last month’s NWA Samhain pay-per-view event. Dave Meltzer had an update on the NWA and Billy Corgan situation on today’s episode of Wrestling Observer Radio.

According to an earlier report by Haus of Wrestling, the segment featured James Mitchell partying with several women and snorting a white powdery substance that was hinted to be cocaine.

The controversial segment reportedly upset some CW higher-ups who have since been pushing for NWA programming to air only on The CW app instead of the main network as was initially planned.

NWA CEO and owner Billy Corgan has dismissed the report on the matter.

The NWA and The CW have yet to announce any type of streaming or network TV deal. And it appears the deal may now be off with WWE NXT coming to the CW Network next year.

NWA TV Deal With The CW Reportedly In Flux Following Drug-Related PPV Spot Going Viral

It was announced in October, that the National Wrestling Alliance reportedly signed a TV deal with the CW. This was after NWA President Billy Corgan indicated on “Busted Open Radio,” that the NWA signed a TV deal with a Top 20 network. The deal would see the CW air “NWA Powerrr” and a reality television series. It now appears though, that their TV deal might be in jeopardy. According to an exclusive report from Haus of Wrestling, executives within the company were upset over what happened during last week’s Samhain pay-per-view.

During the show, there was a controversial segment that involved longtime manager, Father James Mitchell, “snorting cocaine.” Mitchell was the host of the Halloween-themed show. Per the report, the segment was the idea of Corgan. After it happened, The CW on social media received comments from furious fans.

While there hasn’t been any official statement about the backlash that the NWA received, the promotion did react to the show in general, tagging Mitchell in the process.

They wrote a few days after the pay-per-view on X, “Getting a lot of cool messages from people at #NWASamhain! We’re glad everyone had such a blast. Everybody’s excited and DEFINITELY wants to do it again … especially @MinisterReal [Father James Mitchell].”

Kyle Davis, who was one of the NWA Color Commentators during the segment, retweeted the video on X, with the caption, “We got a little out of control this weekend at #NWASamhain … And this is very much what the @nwa brand was in the ’80s FYI.”

Haus of Wrestling was also reportedly told that now, there is a “90% chance” that both the reality TV series — which was said in the report to have been “fully paid for by Corgan” — and “Powerrr” is going to be available on The CW app instead of on television.
