NWA TV Deal With The CW Reportedly In Flux Following Drug-Related PPV Spot Going Viral

It was announced in October, that the National Wrestling Alliance reportedly signed a TV deal with the CW. This was after NWA President Billy Corgan indicated on “Busted Open Radio,” that the NWA signed a TV deal with a Top 20 network. The deal would see the CW air “NWA Powerrr” and a reality television series. It now appears though, that their TV deal might be in jeopardy. According to an exclusive report from Haus of Wrestling, executives within the company were upset over what happened during last week’s Samhain pay-per-view.

During the show, there was a controversial segment that involved longtime manager, Father James Mitchell, “snorting cocaine.” Mitchell was the host of the Halloween-themed show. Per the report, the segment was the idea of Corgan. After it happened, The CW on social media received comments from furious fans.

While there hasn’t been any official statement about the backlash that the NWA received, the promotion did react to the show in general, tagging Mitchell in the process.

They wrote a few days after the pay-per-view on X, “Getting a lot of cool messages from people at #NWASamhain! We’re glad everyone had such a blast. Everybody’s excited and DEFINITELY wants to do it again … especially @MinisterReal [Father James Mitchell].”

Kyle Davis, who was one of the NWA Color Commentators during the segment, retweeted the video on X, with the caption, “We got a little out of control this weekend at #NWASamhain … And this is very much what the @nwa brand was in the ’80s FYI.”

Haus of Wrestling was also reportedly told that now, there is a “90% chance” that both the reality TV series — which was said in the report to have been “fully paid for by Corgan” — and “Powerrr” is going to be available on The CW app instead of on television.

Report – Billy Corgan’s NWA Signs TV Deal With The CW Network

NWA owner Billy Corgan announced last week that the National Wrestling Alliance has signed a television deal with a Top 20 network.

Haus of Wrestling is reporting that the National Wrestling Alliance has signed a television deal with the CW Network. While the logistics are being worked out, an announcement could be happening “relatively soon.”

The TV deal would reportedly entail two different NWA shows airing on the network, one of which would be NWA Powerrr, while the other would be a reality show about the day-to-day, behind-the-scenes element of the promotion.

Corgan has reportedly wanted to form a reality show about the process of running a wrestling promotion for a while. His plans nearly took off when he was running Resistance Pro Wrestling in Chicago about a decade ago when he signed a deal with A&E to produce the series.

Some content had already been filmed for the Resistance reality TV project, but A&E dropped the ball when all of the network’s unscripted content was scrapped. As a result, the show never aired.

While the content for the planned reality show is expected to be filmed and concluded before any new in-ring content starts filming, NWA Powerrr will likely make its debut on the CW Network before the reality series.

Additionally, NWA Powerrr recently underwent some production enhancements for its latest season and those upgrades were reportedly made in anticipation of the upcoming CW switch.

It’s unclear if NWA Powerrr will be a one or two-hour broadcast, however, the show is not expected to be a live broadcast.

The idea would be to pre-tape multiple episodes of NWA Powerrr similar to Impact Wrestling on AXS TV.

In terms of NWA’s YouTube channel, it is speculated that the returning NWA territories could serve as new programming.

Exodus Pro Wrestling was recently named as the first territory of the NWA, and two others are reportedly in the works.

WOW – Women of Wrestling also airs on the CW Network in syndication and recently kicked off its second season. The show outdraws IMPACT! on AXS TV regularly, drawing between 250,000-450,000 viewers per episode. The success of WOW has reportedly made NWA officials optimistic about building a decent audience on the CW Network.

NWA Announces A New ‘Official Territory’ Based In Ohio – Exodus Pro

NWA President Billy Corgan has revealed the introduction of a fresh territory where NWA champions will participate in the promotion.

During an Exodus Pro event, Corgan made the announcement while being accompanied by EC3, the NWA Worlds Heavyweight Champion and former WWE star, that Exodus Pro would become a new NWA territory. In the video, which was shared on NWA’s social media, Corgan stated that the NWA Exodus Pro Heavyweight Championship will be recognized by NWA.

“The company will be called NWA Exodus Pro,” said Corgan. “So what does that mean in real terms? The NWA Exodus Pro brand from Cleveland, Ohio, will now represent NWA champions coming to town, and very soon the NWA Exodus Pro Heavyweight Championship will be recognized as a title by the National Wrestling Alliance.”

EC3 established Exodus Pro earlier this year and held its first event in August. The former WWE star has stated that the promotion aims to help young talent by giving them a platform to “take initiative” and reach the highest level of pro wrestling. The promotion is an affiliate of cYn: Co-operative, as per their social media. EC3 launched Control Your Narrative [CYN] following his WWE release, which featured the likes of Braun Strowman. He revealed in an interview with WrestlingInc earlier this year that CYN isn’t a promotion but rather a place for young talent to learn and grow.

EC3, who officially signed with NWA at the start of the year, is the current NWA Worlds Heavyweight Champion, beginning his first reign with the title when he defeated Tyrus at the NWA 75th Anniversary Show.

Velvet Sky Reveals What’s Next For Her Following NWA Departure

While Velvet Sky recently departed the National Wrestling Alliance, she is still interested in doing more commentary work for another company.

Speaking on a recent edition of “Busted Open Radio,” the former Beautiful People member opined on what’s next for her, the NWA locker room being a breath of fresh air, and more.

You can check out some highlights from the podcast below:

On if she wants to keep doing commentary: “I will say, I honestly had a blast at the NWA, in the commentary role. I like to try to be versatile in this industry, not just be known as Velvet Sky, the wrestler. When you put your whole youth into something and that part of of life comes to an end, it’s like, I’ve been in the industry since I was 20 years old. 22 years later, I’m still a part of it, even though I’m not active in the ring. I would like it to kind of stay that way, as far as being involved in the industry in some role. If I’m not, again, I’m totally fine because I’m totally at peace and I’m totally happy and satisfied with what I have done in the wrestling industry as far as being in IMPACT and my time in NWA as a commentator, which I really did enjoy. Joe and Tim, they took me under their wing, and I learned a lot from them. They showed me the ropes of commentary, and I still have a lot to learn. I feel like I was just getting my toes wet in commentary with the NWA. But good things had to come to end.”

On her time in the NWA: “I have nothing bad to say about the company, my time there. That locker room is a breath of fresh air. I wouldn’t mind trying commentary out again somewhere somehow. If it happened, great. If it didn’t, I’m more than satisfied with my time in wrestling and what I’ve done in wrestling, even though wrestling is in my blood, it’s in my heart, it’s in my soul. So of course I would always want to be a part of this industry in some way, shape, or form. So you never know. Never say never. But yes, I would honestly like to try out commentary somewhere or just being involved in wrestling as a whole would be great. If it doesn’t happen again, I’m cool. I’m good. I’m living life. I’m enjoying it. I’m good.”

Velvet Sky Announces Departure From The NWA

Velvet Sky has announced her departure from the National Wrestling Alliance (NWA). She broke the news on Friday in a statement on X, formerly known as Twitter.

“Going forward, I will no longer be a part of the NWA,” she wrote before thanking Billy Corgan, each person she worked with, and commentators Joe Galli and Tim Storm, whom she said she “learned so much from.” She wished the best for the promotion as she signed off, though she seemingly left the door open to a return, adding, “See you all down the road.”

Velvet Sky had been working with NWA as a color commentator, starting in March 2021, following her retirement from in-ring competition in 2017. She had also worked with Ring of Honor — pre-Tony Khan acquisition — as a non-wrestler in “The Allure” stable between 2019 and late 2020. She received a warm farewell in reaction to her announcement; Joe Galli described her as the “heart and soul” of the commentary team, saying that she is loved dearly and will be missed. Former Women’s World Champion Kamille, Natalia Markova, and Lady Frost all shared their support for Sky.

Sky is set to appear on Impact Wrestling’s 1000th episode, which was taped on Saturday to air on Thursday, September 14. Sky will be at ringside as her former teammate, Angelina Love, takes part in a 10-woman tag match. Love will team with Deonna Purrazzo, Gisele Shaw, Savannah Evans, and a mystery partner against Trinity, Jordynne Grace, Awesome Kong, Gail Kim, and a mystery partner.

EC3 Wins NWA Worlds Heavyweight Title, Forces Tyrus Into Retirement

EC3 enjoys working in NWA and he has more reason to love the promotion after he defeated Tyrus to win the NWA Worlds Heavyweight Championship.

The bullrope match for the NWA Worlds Heavyweight Championship was the main event of night 2 of the NWA 75th Anniversary Show on Sunday, where EC3 began his first reign with the title after Tyrus tapped out. EC3’s win also meant that his opponent, Tyrus, had to retire from NWA, which was the stipulation heading into the match.

Tyrus had held the title since last November’s Hard Times 3 show, where he had defeated Matt Cardona and then champion Trevor Murdoch to become the heavyweight champion.

The former WWE star, who has made a few controversial statements in the past, was recently in the news for the wrong reasons when he advocated assaulting children if they used their preferred pronouns.

There was another major title change at NWA 75 as Kenzie Paige became the NWA World Women’s Championship after defeating Kamille, which was also on night 2 of the show. Kamille had successfully defended her title on Saturday against Natalia Markova, but her 800+ day reign as champion ended at the hands of Paige.

Paige, though, lost the NWA World Women’s Television Championship on Saturday night to Max the Impaler, while Blunt Force Trauma won the NWA World Tag Team Championship on night 1 after defeating La Rebelión on night 1 and retaining it on night 2, winning their match against Trevor Murdoch and Mike Knox.

Wrestling Legend Stan Lane Proves He’s Not Congresswoman Lauren Boebert’s Father

The worlds of politics and professional wrestling continue to be linked in the most bizarre ways, with the most recent being the paternity of Colorado Congresswoman Lauren Boebert. In the past, both Boebert and her mother have accused retired pro wrestler “Sweet” Stan Lane of being the congresswoman’s estranged father. These accusations have now been disproven, with a press release given to PWInsider on behalf of Stane Lane saying that a DNA test has shown that he is not the father of the politician.

This conclusion comes after years of turmoil between both parties, one that Lane elaborated on in his press release. “We went through the legal system and completed a court-ordered paternity test. I was declared not to be the father and the case was dismissed,” The former NWA star explained, “In spite of the court verdict, the mother of [Lauren Boebert] has continued to stick to her original claim.”

Eventually, Lane allowed the congresswoman to oversee another DNA test herself, confirming, once again, that the former pro wrestler was not her father. “Once we both reviewed the results Lauren and I agreed that this matter is settled, and I accepted Lauren’s apology on behalf of herself and her mother,” Lane concluded.

Lane expressed his desire to return to his quiet life as a retired performer coming out of this situation. As a pro wrestler, “Sweet” Stan Lane was best known for his proficiency as a tag team competitor, with many wrestling fans knowing him for his time as a part of The Fabulous Ones with Steve Keirn and The Midnight Express with Bobby Eaton. However, Lane’s tag team success wasn’t confined to just two partners. Throughout his career, the wrestling legend celebrated 35 tag team championship reigns with six different partners across the United States.
