“The Pope” D’Angelo Dinero announced on social media that he is leaving GFW.

Dinero worked for TNA as a wrestler from 2009-2013. He returned to the company in 2015 as a color commentator using the name, Da Pope. He returned to action on the April 5th episode of Impact Wrestling, losing to Lashley in a street fight.

Da Pope wrote the following on Instagram:

“The clock is ticking, never standing still, yet memories will come, in floods they will. This was no surprise as things began to click, when negotiations stalled because of arithmetics. In arriving hello is easy to say, in departing it’s different as some will sway. But no not me as I look towards the sky, for there’s a reason I’ve always walked with my head held high. Although the past will come trickling around and through, the future is bright with much things for me to do. So thanks to my friends and staff who showed me goodwill, because those memories are the only moments that makes the clock stand still.” ~PHS

GFW Main Event Plans Likely To Be Changed Leading Up To Bound For Glory

GFW will tape all episodes of Impact Wrestling leading up to their Bound For Glory pay-per-view this week in Orlando, FL. There is a good possibility that all main event plans will have to be changed, according to F4WOnline.

GFW announced this morning that Alberto El Patron has been stripped of their World Heavyweight Championship following the conclusion of the internal investigation of the July 2017 incident with Paige at the Orlando International Airport. According to the report, it appears El Patron will not be at television this week, thus triggering an overhaul of main event plans. A decision regarding El Patron had not been made over the weekend.

Anthem Wrestling Exhibitions President Ed Nodholm is the man with the final say regarding the situation with El Patron and even though El Patron was not charged in the airport incident, there have been concerns over his long-term behavior, according to F4WOnline.

El Patron spoke freely about his suspension on an episode of Busted Open with Bully Ray and Dave Lagreca earlier this month. He said the rules need to apply to everyone the same and that he agreed with GFW’s decision to suspend him and understood the reason for it.

Alberto claimed a date for his return to GFW had been set, something the company disputed in their statement today. GFW noted, “No decision has been taken as to the date on which he will be reinstated to the roster, the conditions of which are a private matter between the company and El Patron.”

GFW’s Impact Wrestling tapings will take place beginning Thursday, August 17 with the special Destination X episode through Sunday, August 20. All episodes through October 2017 will be filmed. Bound For Glory will take place on Sunday, November 5, 2017.

Breaking News: Alberto El Patron Stripped Of GFW World Heavyweight Championship

Alberto El Patron has been stripped of the GFW World Heavyweight Championship, the company announced in a statement on Monday. You can read the statement below:

GFW has concluded its internal consideration of the events surrounding the suspension of Alberto El Patron. While it is apparent that initial reports unfairly characterized El Patron’s involvement in the incident in the Orlando airport, we are nonetheless disappointed with the manner in which he dealt with this situation; we expect more decorum from all on the GFW roster, especially the World Champion. We have communicated with El Patron our decision to strip him of his championship title. No decision has been taken as to the date on which he will be reinstated to the roster, the conditions of which are a private matter between the company and El Patron.

Police confirmed that El Patron was detained following a domestic incident at the Orlando International Airport on July 9, 2017. He was not arrested and no charges were filed at the time.

TMZ reported Patron allegedly roughed up a female companion but did not mention his girlfriend Paige by name. There has been no indication that Patron got physical. In response, Paige tweeted this:

“WE got the cops involved. I’m crying cuz I found out bad fam news & a lady tries take a pic. She gets angry throws a drink on @PrideOfMexico,” tweeted Paige. “Please leave us alone. That’s it.”

Paige’s tweet was highly disputed by eyewitness accounts and reports that followed the incident. TMZ obtained audio from the incident where Alberto is heard telling someone, possibly Paige, to “call the cops.” Paige is heard crying and yelling, “Just stay out of my life. Leave me the f-ck alone. I’m trying to get away from you!”

A witness claimed El Patron and Paige were arguing and Patron told Paige he was pressing charges against her. A witness told Heavy.com that the couple were arguing on the airport tram system, with Paige screaming at El Patron that he had been doing cocaine for “two days straight” and she called him abusive. There were also claims El Patron smelled like alcohol.

GFW announced on July 12, 2017 that El Patron was suspended indefinitely. Over the course of the investigation, authorities determined Paige could face charges but none have been filed at press time. Patron has not worked for GFW since his suspension.

Both Paige and El Patron addressed the incident during a radio interview on Busted Open with Bully Ray and Dave Lagreca earlier this month. Each claimed they planned to return to work soon, with Paige going back to WWE and El Patron to GFW. Patron claimed a date for his return had been set but GFW clarified he was still suspended.

Matt Sydal Injured On GFW Impact

Matt Sydal received medical attention after last night’s GFW Impact main event due to his shoulder popping out of place during the match. Sydal said he knew it was out of place when it happened and the shoulder went numb. In the video, he’s told he shouldn’t wrestle for 6-8 weeks, so the ligaments in the shoulder can heal up. Sydal is scheduled to face Lashley next week at Destination X.

GFW cameras caught up with Matt Sydal after the show to ask him about the injury. Sydal responded:

“That might have been the last bump you ever saw from Matt Sydal, maybe not. That feeling of numbness that goes from here all the way down to your last fingertip. …I don’t break, I just bend like the little blade of grass that still standing when the storm has past and all the big trees – the big oaks – have toppled over. This little blade of grass is gonna be standing.”

Backstage Update On Rey Mysterio – WWE, The Vince McMahon – Konnan Story, Rey Going To GFW, More

According to Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated, Rey Mysterio would not be returning to WWE after the company had interest in bringing him back to help with the Latin market. Word was that Vince McMahon was not interested in working with Rey’s representation, specifically Konnan.

The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports this week that while Rey and WWE were talking, the discussions were said to be overblown in the first place as Rey was looking at signing with GFW because of the easier schedule and because it would allow him more freedom to do side projects. When word first got out about Rey talking with WWE, The Observer was told that it was actually GFW that Rey was talking with, and that there was nothing significant to the WWE talk. Rey is unlikely to sign a regular WWE deal at this point in his career, unless it was for a very limited number of dates, and the pay wouldn’t come close to what he could earn as an indie talent if the company offered him a non-talent public relations job.

Regarding Rey’s status with Lucha Underground, he had a very good deal going with them but the fact that he’s looking for work elsewhere as their biggest name is not a good sign for the promotion. It looks like Rey and LU are parting ways, and it’s been noted that he’s expected to receive a significant offer from GFW. Rey’s deal with LU would have made him one of the higher paid wrestlers in the world, working a limited number of dates and still having freedom to work other indies. The Observer notes that the money isn’t there for Rey to be offered what his prior deal was, due to various issues with the promotion – long delays in between tapings, no live event touring and no movie, which was never promised but was pitched. Rey reportedly ended up signing for less than the numbers offered when he was first told about LU’s interest, but it was still far more money than he could get from any other promotion.

Konnan noted that he had not negotiated with WWE on behalf of Mysterio, and that if Rey wanted to return to WWE and anyone saw Konnan’s involvement as a negative, then he would stay out of the talks and Rey would negotiate for himself. The SI story noted that the rift between Vince and Konnan goes back decades to when the company invested big bucks into the Max Moon character for Konnan. He ended up staying in Mexico to work as a top star and while he was recently welcomed backstage at a WWE event as a guest of Chris Jericho, SI noted that issues still exist between Konnan and the WWE office. The Observer noted that the issues over the Max Moon character were started 25 years ago and almost nobody involved is still with the company, except Vince. It was indicated that the Vince – Konnan story may have been overblown.

Regarding Rey and GFW, GFW Executive Karen Jarrett fueled the rumors last month when she posted a photo with Rey to her Instagram account. It’s worth noting that the photo has since been deleted. Rey is under contract with LU through the end of season three, which airs in September, but he does have a 90-day non-compete clause in the deal. He will be a free agent after that and it’s believed he will debut with GFW then.
