Danhausen Signs With AEW, Debuts At Dynamite Beach Break

Former Ring Of Honor star Danhausen is officially ALL ELITE!

After months of teases, Danhausen is officially ALL ELITE! The former Ring Of Honor star made his AEW debut last night at Dynamite Beach Break and was confirmed as an official member of the roster shortly afterward by Tony Khan.

It all went down at the Wolstein Center in Cleveland, Ohio on Wednesday, January 26 for AEW’s third annual Beach Break-themed edition of its weekly flagship show on TBS. During the Lights Out main event between Adam Cole and Orange Cassidy, Cole tried to pull a steel chair out from underneath the ring … but there was no chair, only a very evil man by the name of Danhausen. Danhausen emerged from under the ring and pointed at Cole, who was visibly baffled. AEW’s newest acquisition then hobbled up the ramp and disappeared.

If you’re unfamiliar with his work, Danhausen is a spooky-looking guy with demonic face paint and an extravagant cape who walks around carrying either a cartoonish sack of “human money” or a regular jar filled with human teeth — or both! Danhausen speaks in an exaggerated high-pitched voice which sounds like a cross between Mark Hammil’s Joker and Conan O’Brien, from whom the artist behind Danhausen admits to drawing inspiration.

Danhausen’s addition means that CM Punk is no longer the only man on the AEW roster who uses the GTS as a finisher. Danhausen adopted the move for himself, but not before asking both Punk (and KENTA’s) permission.

So as Danhausen saw it, CM Punk, wonderful fellow, gave Danhausen the GTS as his finisher. Then Kenta got a little angry at him, but then said he doesn’t care who uses it besides CM Punk,” Danhausen said on an episode of Renee Paquette’s Oral Session’s Podcast. “So Danhausen got two blessings as far as he can see it, CM Punk and Kentahausen… Even named it Very Nice, Very Kneevil.”

Cody Rhodes Delivers Fiery Promo On AEW Dynamite, Takes Shots At WALTER Name Change

Last night’s AEW Dynamite featured a segment where the TNT Champion Cody Rhodes came out to the ring and set up a large ladder. He then delivered a promo where he started by bringing up CM Punk’s pipebomb promo when he was still with WWE, and how Punk’s return is the greatest of the decade. He pointed out that despite mentioning working with ROH and NJPW when he leaves WWE, Punk never actually did that. Cody, however, did make those dreams a reality.

He claims that he is the one that built the forbidden door before it was ever recognized as a term. He also talks about how things have gone off the rails since he left AEW two weeks ago to recover from COVID, pointing to the “Wednesday Night Wars” almost repeating themselves when The Young Bucks and ReDRagon almost came to blows last week.

He says that Undisputed Era is just developmental talent from WWE, and he also brought up WALTER’s name change, referring to him as Gunner McGillicuddy after his name was changed to Gunther Stark. This also recalls another name change WWE did in the past when they named Joseph Henning Jr. “Michael McGillicuddy” before deeming him Curtis Axel in WWE.

Cody talked a bit about Malakai Black and his new stable member, Brody King. He criticized Brody for coming into the company and keeping that name because of the legacy it holds with Brodie Lee. He also says that years in the future when Negative 1/Brodie Jr. is ready to compete, he’ll be there to claim his name.

He says the TNT Championship has been built on a great foundation of champions like Brodie, Sammy Guevara, Miro, and others, but people don’t give it the same respect because it doesn’t have the word “World” in the title. He explains how now that there is an interim TNT Champion in Sammy Guevara, the two men need to compete to determine who the Undisputed TNT Champion is.

He says Tony Khan sent him a contract in the mail, though it wasn’t the contract he was looking for — likely referring to reports that Cody is now a free agent in AEW. Tony apparently proposed a ladder match on next week’s AEW Dynamite to finally determine the undisputed TNT champion of AEW, which Cody accepts.

Jon Moxley Returns To AEW, Cuts Passionate Promo On Dynamite

Last night’s episode of AEW Dynamite kicked off with a powerful promo from Jon Moxley, who just returned to the company following a stint in rehab.

Jon Moxley is BACK! And he’s got a thirst for blood.

The former AEW Champion made his long-awaited return to AEW on this week’s edition of AEW Dynamite. It all went down in Washington, DC, on Wednesday, January 19. Mox’s music hit as soon as the show kicked, and the fans went wild. Mox hit the ring, grabbed a mic, and got down to business by dealing with a heckler who yelled some lame insult at Mox. Quick as a flash, Mox told the guy to “go f**k” himself.

Mox then cut a passionate, heartfelt promo. He addressed his demons, celebrated his ongoing recovery, and then put the AEW locker room on notice. “You thought I was dangerous before? These days all I drink is blood!” Mox said. The crowd popped and Mox left the area via the crowd as the opening segment drew to a close.

Later in the night, “All Ego” Ethan Page challenged Moxley to a match at Beach Break which goes down next Wednesday.

Last November, Moxley entered an alcohol treatment program that necessitated a hiatus from the world of wrestling. As a result, Mox was forced to pull out of scheduled appearances with AEW, GCW, and NJPW.

At the time, AEW president Tony Khan took to Twitter to announce that Mox was undergoing treatment for alcohol addiction. “Jon Moxley has allowed me to share with you that he is entering an inpatient alcohol treatment program,” Khan tweeted on the evening of Tuesday, November 2. “Jon is a beloved member of the AEW family. We all stand with him and Renee, and all of his family and friends, as he shifts his focus to recovery,” he added.

Mox’s last match was against Jimmy Jacobs at an indie show on October 30. His last AEW match was a victory over Ten in the first round of the AEW World Title Eliminator Tournament on October 27.

The Briscoes Comment On Potentially Signing With WWE Or AEW

ROH World Tag Team Champions The Briscoes recently spoke with Busted Open Radio about the potential of them working for WWE or AEW. While the talk has largely been about them and AEW, the popular duo believes they could make an impact for Vince McMahon.

WWE

“I mean, I think that we would definitely survive,” Jay said. “Because at the end of the day you’ve got to get in that ring and ring the bell.”

Mark Briscoe added, “I think that we would survive and thrive. Vince McMahon likes money, and shoot when we get in-between those ropes, that’s what we are going to do, we are going to make your company money. I think that’s the bottom line, not trying to sound cocky or anything.”

“We are very confident in our abilities, especially right now we are at the top of our game,” Jay added. “So, really man, anywhere we go, we are going to definitely like he said, survive and thrive.”

The style of The Briscoes is very unique and certainly different from anything in WWE right now. However, the tag team believes that is what is needed right now. The fighting style is something they both think fans want

“When people are sitting around, and you’ve got a wrestling fan that has wrestling on TV, and he has his friends over and there not wrestling fans. What are you going to show them to get them to become wrestling fans? You can’t be showing them this clown s–t, man,” Jay stated. “You’ve got to show them something that they can get into, some real s–t.

“And professional wrestling as we all know, there’s so many different flavors of professional wrestling,” Mark added. “But you can’t have certain flavors showcased for such a high percentage of the time. You’ve got to have a fight, that’s what wrestling is, a fight. That’s got to be your staple, that’s got to be your backbone. Your backbone can’t be comedy or this that and the other you’ve got to have fighters out there.”

AEW

If they joined AEW. With the company having a huge roster, Jay made it clear that they wouldn’t be taking a backseat to anybody.

“That’s the thing man, if it does happen, when and if, everybody else is going to have to take a backseat. That’s just going to be the way it is,” Jay Briscoe said. “Once we get in there, ya’ll know what we’re going to do. Once they see we do us and FTR and we whoop their ass, they aren’t going to have no choice but to put us regularly on their television program.”

The Briscoes have been undergoing a war of words online with FTR recently. Despite the fact that they do not like Twitter, the duo admitted that they need to do it at this point in their careers.

“We’re just keeping it real, man. I don’t even like to get on the damn Twitter, man,” Jay Briscoe said. “It just sucks you in, I don’t like to get too involved but at this point in our careers, we’ve got to do what we’ve got to do. So, we just putting it out there and letting them know, ‘we’re here.’”

“Especially like, it wasn’t five minutes after the Ring Of Honor news hit. Back when it did hit, when your boy, Dax, Big Dax just tweeting Briscoes, nothing but Briscoes,” Mark added. “So we can’t sit there, yeah, ‘Briscoes, huh, Briscoes, what’s up?’”

The Briscoes also believe they will be sure to make a big impact if they do join the company. The team are confident due to the fact they’re trying to provide for their families. This means they will do whatever is needed.

“I think once we make that splash, they’re going to want to see it again and again,” Jay Briscoe stated. “So, I ain’t really too worried about that. At the end of the day we’re providing for our families. So we’ve got to do what we’ve got to do. But, I don’t think we’ve got to worry about riding the bench.”

Cody Rhodes Is Reportedly A Free Agent

AEW TNT Champion Cody Rhodes is reportedly a free agent.

Rhodes’ AEW contract reportedly expired at the end of 2021, technically making him a free agent, according to Fightful Select. Rhodes has been working without a contract since then.

Rhodes’ status as a free agent has been known by many within AEW for a few weeks now.

There is no word on when Rhodes is expected to sign a new AEW contract, but we will keep you updated. You can click here for what Rhodes recently had to say to Sports Illustrated about his future with the company.

Rhodes, who also works as an Executive Vice President for AEW, became a three-time TNT Champion by defeating Sammy Guevara for the title back on the Holiday Bash edition of AEW Rampage on December 25. He was scheduled to defend against Guevara in a rematch at Battle of The Belts on January 8, but was pulled from the show due to a medical issue. Guevara defeated Dustin Rhodes to become the Interim AEW TNT Champion at Battle of The Belts instead.

Rhodes is scheduled to make his return on this week’s AEW Dynamite from Washington, DC, but there’s no word on when the title match with Guevara will take place.
