State Of Louisiana Bans Blood & Piledrivers, What Could This Mean For WrestleMania 34 Weekend

Image result for WrestleMania 34 weekend

It is being reported that the boxing and wrestling commission of the State of Louisiana is going to put restrictions on pro wrestling matches including blood and piledrivers.

John Pollock of Post Wrestling tweeted the following:

John Pollock of Post Wrestling interviewed Russell Naquin of the Louisiana Boxing & Wrestling Commission to discuss certain statewide guidelines that professional wrestlers and promoters must follow. WrestleMania 34 will be taking place at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans, and there are a host of other wrestling events scheduled in the state ahead of the big event. Naquin noted that both blood and piledrivers are prohibited on pro wrestling events statewide, due to an incident which injured a competitor several years ago.

In addition, Louisiana requires any promoter who is holding an event to have a license. The state does allow existing promoters with licenses to loan them out to others.

Performers are also required to have blood work completed that cannot be more than six months old, to prove that they are HIV negative, and Hepatitis B and C negative. Pro wrestlers are not allowed to compete unless this information is submitted prior to them competing. In addition, wrestlers are subject to completing a ringside physical at the day of the show.

These restrictions bring up an interesting dilemma. The Undertaker is rumored to compete against John Cena at WrestleMania, and has been training to prepare for the match. With these restrictions, Undertaker might not be able to perform his Tombstone at the event since it’s considered a piledriver. Taker did hit a Tombstone on Brock Lesnar during their match at WrestleMania 30, which also took place at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome, however that may have been before the move was outlawed.

Since blood and piledrivers have been banned for years, this should not be a major issue for WWE. However, although Vince McMahon has promoted WWE as a sports entertainment company to prevent having licenses for every state, Pollock did note that a license for a wrestler within the state costs $25.

This ban on blood and piledrivers will have more of an impact on the other wrestling promotions running shows in the New Orleans area during WrestleMania weekend such as Impact Wrestling and ROH.

Current WWE Intercontinental Champion Roman Reigns vs. WWE Universal Champion Brock Lesnar has been planned for one of the WrestleMania 34 main events. The Wrestling Observer Newsletter notes that Reigns vs. Lesnar is still the plan but there’s no word yet on if Reigns will go into WrestleMania with the IC Title.

It is being reported that another top WrestleMania 34 match will see John Cena finally face off with The Undertaker. It’s believed that a big angle with Cena and Taker will be shot at the January 22nd RAW 25th Anniversary show in New York City as both Superstars will be there.

Stephanie McMahon used Twitter to offer model/TV host Chrissy Teigen an official invitation to WrestleMania 34.

Teigen tweeted earlier today saying she’s “never had more fun” than she had at WrestleMania XXIV, but for some reason she had to leave early and is still mad about it.

This prompted a response from Stephanie, who tweeted: “We’re sorry you had to leave early! Consider this your official invitation to  in  this year!  said to let him know if anyone tries to make you leave early this time! They’ll have a whole locker room to deal with!”

Chrissy responded saying, “This is THE greatest gift I have ever received!!” She then asked when the event was so she can figure out how pregnant she’ll be.

Backstage News On A Major Potential WrestleMania 34 Match

Image result for WrestleMania 34

It was recently revealed that the main event for the SmackDown-branded WWE Fastlane pay-per-view in March will be AJ Styles defending the WWE Championship in a five-way match against Randy Orton, Shinsuke Nakamura, Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn. While it’s not a lock, that would suggest that Orton, Nakamura, Owens and Zayn aren’t winning The Royal Rumble match in January, since it wouldn’t make sense for them to challenge for the title at Fastlane and then again at WrestleMania.

There had been speculation that Styles would be defending his WWE Championship against John Cena at WrestleMania 34, with the storyline being that Cena would be trying to break Ric Flair’s recognized record of 16 World title reigns. According to Dave Meltzer in the latest edition of The Wrestling Observer Newsletter , Cena will not be facing Styles at the event as Cena “is in a much bigger match than Styles.” He added that while he doesn’t know exactly who Cena will be facing, he was told that the match will be clear within a few weeks.

Meltzer noted that the only names he could come up with to be facing Cena were The Undertaker, Batista, Goldberg or Hulk Hogan, however it would be a surprise with Hogan given his controversy with his leaked racist rant, as well as his issues with his back. It is expected that some angles for the top WrestleMania matches will be shot at the 25th anniversary of RAW on Monday, January 22, 2018. The special will emanate from both the Barclays Center and the Manhattan Center in New York City, and will feature appearances by The Undertaker, Kevin Nash and Shawn Michaels, among others.

Backstage News On WWE’s Plans For Ronday Rousey And A Horsewomen Vs. Horsewomen Match

Image result for 4 horsewomen vs 4 horsewomen

WWE officials are still planning on doing the Horsewomen vs. Horsewomen match with Charlotte Flair, Becky Lynch, Sasha Banks and Bayley vs. Ronda Rousey, Shayna Baszler, Jessamyn Duke and Marina Shafir, according to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.

The match is now being planned for WrestleMania 34 in New Orleans. One reason the match has been pushed back until then is because there’s a RAW vs. SmackDown theme at Survivor Series, where the match was once rumored to take place. Another reason they’re waiting until 2018 to do the match is the feeling that the extra time will help them get Rousey, Duke and Shafir ready for the ring.

Baszler continues to train at the WWE Performance Center under her WWE NXT deal and Rousey was at the Performance Center this past week. No word yet on the rumored Rousey vs. Flair singles match happening in the future but it was once rumored for WrestleMania.

WWE Confirms WrestleMania 34 Will Be Held In New Orleans At The Superdome

WWE issued the following yesterday:

WrestleMania returns to New Orleans in 2018

The Showcase of the Immortals is returning to New Orleans in 2018.

As first reported by The Times-Picayune, WrestleMania 34 will emanate from the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans on Sunday, April 8, 2018.

A capacity crowd of 75,167 WWE fans filled the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in 2014 for WrestleMania 30. That was the year that The Undertaker’s WrestleMania Streak famously came to an end at the hands of Brock Lesnar, as well as the event where Daniel Bryan defeated Batista and Randy Orton in a triple threat main event to win the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.

WWE will hold a press event today in New Orleans to make the WrestleMania 34 announcement official. Check back to WWE.com today for full coverage, including photos and videos.

WrestleMania 34 Location Revealed – Official Announcement Coming

Multiple sources with direct knowledge told Pro Wrestling Sheet that WWE officials will soon announce that WrestleMania is returning to New Orleans in 2018.

The event was last held in the Big Easy back in 2014 for WrestleMania XXX and featured Daniel Bryan‘s memorable WWE World Heavyweight Title win. It’s also where Undertaker‘s streak ended.
