The Young Bucks Spotted Backstage at AEW Dynamite—When Will They Return?

2025 has been a whirlwind year for All Elite Wrestling, but one major question has lingered for months—where are The Young Bucks? The AEW Executive Vice Presidents, Matthew and Nicholas Jackson, have been noticeably absent from AEW programming since the October 30, 2024 episode of Dynamite, where they were last seen shredding documents and telling Christopher Daniels they planned to “work from home.” Since then, the former AEW Tag Team Champions have remained out of the spotlight in AEW, leaving fans wondering when—or if—they will make their return.

Young Bucks Backstage at Dynamite

While their absence has fueled speculation, a new report from Dave Meltzer in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter has provided an update. According to Meltzer, The Young Bucks were backstage at AEW Dynamite in Oceanside, California on February 26, sparking further questions about when they might officially return to AEW programming.

Meltzer noted that plans are being worked on for their comeback, but as of now, no official date has been set. Interestingly, despite multiple AEW events taking place in their home state of California, the Bucks have yet to reappear, surprising many who assumed they’d make their return in familiar territory.

However, given their high-ranking position within AEW, Meltzer emphasized that The Young Bucks won’t find themselves in a situation where they’re medically cleared but creatively sidelined—a predicament that has plagued several AEW stars in recent years.

A Brief Return to NJPW

Despite their AEW absence, The Young Bucks haven’t been completely inactive. The brothers returned to Japan in January to compete at NJPW Wrestle Dynasty, where they won the IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team Championships for the second time in their careers. Their reign lasted 37 days before they dropped the belts to Tetsuya Naito and Hiromu Takahashi at The New Beginning in Osaka on February 11.

The Bucks later revealed that these trips to Japan were something they desperately needed for their own mental health, further hinting that their AEW hiatus may have been about more than just creative direction.

What’s Next for The Bucks?

With AEW’s biggest show of the year, Double or Nothing, on the horizon, it’s only a matter of time before The Young Bucks make their highly anticipated return. Will they pick up where they left off, or will their time away signal a new chapter for the EVP duo?

Update On AEW’s Young Bucks, Elite Storyline Following Tag Title Loss

Former AEW World Tag Team Champions The Young Bucks were last seen shredding documents and hightailing out of Wednesday’s “AEW Dynamite,” following their loss of the titles to Private Party. The dramatic exit, as well as The Bucks shaking Private Party’s hand after the match has some wondering what the future of Matt and Nick Jackson looks like. In a new update on PWInsider, Mike Johnson said the EVPs are saying goodbye for now, but not for good.

 “Yes, last night was the end of the current Young Bucks storyline. We are told they are not planned to return to TV for some time,” Johnson wrote, addressing a number of questions the PWInsider team received about the storyline developments. “NO, they are not done with the company. They signed a new AEW deal awhile back, which was announced publicly at the time.” The Bucks signed a new contract that only required a limited number of appearances each year, and word back in August was that AEW President Tony Khan had no interest in paying them for extra appearances, leading to the Bucks not being heavily involved in the build to August’s All In event. 

The Bucks are set for the upcoming Wrestle Dynasty event in the Tokyo Dome on January 5, possibly to face Hiroshi Tanahashi and their former friend Kenny Omega in Omega’s return to NJPW. Set for the night after Wrestle Kingdom, the event will see wrestlers from NJPW, CMLL, ROH, and AEW compete in the historic venue.

AEW’s Young Bucks Are Giving Away A Pair Of Their Reebok Pump Superkicks

The Young Bucks may not be the most popular fellows in AEW these days, what with their attacks on AEW owner Tony Khan and fellow EVP Kenny Omega, as well as their continued appearance that their EVP power has gone to their head. But the current AEW World Tag Team Champions have shown a softer side when it comes to their Reebok Pump Superkicks sneakers, a trend that continued on Monday morning.

In a video posted on TikTok, Matthew and Nicholas Jackson revealed that, due to the ongoing success of their sneakers, they have decided to give away a free pair of shoes to a lucky fan, signed by the duo. Not only that, but the Bucks are also giving fans the opportunity to customize the shoes. The caption below the video provided further details, saying that fans could enter to win by following the Bucks or AEW on TikTok, and tag two friends in the comment section. The contest winner will be revealed this Friday.

First announced in the middle of May, the Bucks Reebok shoes have proven to be a big mover, reportedly selling nearly 2,600 pairs out of 3,000 available when they were made available last week. Those within Reebok have noted that this was the fastest selling shoe the footwear company has produced in some time, and discussions are already ongoing about further collaboration between the Bucks and Reebok for next year.

The Bucks’ work with Reebok is the second time the AEW EVPs have ventured into the sneaker business. The brothers had previously collaborated with Diadora back in 2022 for a sneaker sold through Champ Sports, while they were suspended from AEW following their backstage altercation with CM Punk at AEW All Out.

Jack Perry And The Elite Destroy Tony Khan In Closing Segment Of AEW Dynamite

After an eight-month absence from AEW television, Jack Perry returned on “AEW Dynamite,” hitting the ring in the main event segment to ask AEW President Tony Khan to shake his hand, reinstate him, and “continue to change the world together.” Perry got all that he asked for and more, punching Khan in the stomach and setting him up for further damage at the hands of The Elite.

Perry, who was last seen in AEW at All In in August of 2023 before Sunday’s surprise appearance at Dynasty, showed up with The Young Bucks and Kazuchika Okada at the start of tonight’s show, walking into the arena through the back and eventually ending up in Khan’s office. Later in the show, it was revealed that Perry and Khan would meet in the ring, setting the stage for the latter’s first physical involvement in the company’s five-year history.

Beginning the segment by addressing the Jacksonville crowd by saying he’s had some of the best times in his life there, Perry pivoted in saying that they had business to handle and that he wanted to do it face to face with Khan. After Perry admitted that the two have had ups and downs, not always seeing eye to eye, the former Jungle Boy said, “I swear to God, the only thing I have ever wanted is what’s best for AEW.” The two would then embrace, raising each other’s hands before Perry’s attack, and ultimately, The Young Bucks finishing Khan off with none other than the TK Driver.

As the show went off air, a slew of AEW stars rushed toward the ring and to Khan’s side, along with Shahid Khan, Tony’s father, and AEW co-owner, who looked stunned and concerned for his fallen son.

Backstage News On How Hard Tony Khan Is Selling Attack From The Elite On AEW Dynamite

Fightful Select reports that its sources in AEW say Khan didn’t simply sell the attacks on-camera, but has since been selling his resulting storyline injury as well. The upcoming Parking Lot Brawl between Trent Barretta and Chuck Taylor was filmed early on Thursday, and their sources say Khan was on set during the match, seen wearing a neck brace. Some have also questioned if Khan will be seen with the brace in the coming days during the NFL Draft, but for now it’s unknown if he will do so.

Khan’s involvement in the angle seems to have positioned Perry as an even bigger heel than he was before his suspension. Interestingly, while his heel turn was originally welcomed, he still received a significant amount of criticism. Since his return to wrestling and embracing his role in CM Punk’s AEW departure, it seems like fans are now warming up to him as a believable villain, especially after last night. Bully Ray and Tommy Dreamer also recently gave their takes on the heel version of The Elite, noting how Perry has sold lots of merch lately. However, both the veterans criticized Perry for directly referencing Punk, considering that he’s no longer signed to AEW. Bully also questioned Perry’s heel turn, and suggested that he should’ve actually been a babyface since Punk was the one who got physical first.

Sting Descends From The Rafters To Save Ric Flair & Darby Allin In Final AEW Dynamite Appearance

The Young Bucks got quite the surprise on “AEW Dynamite” after spending the majority of Wednesday’s broadcast looking for Sting on what was “The Icon’s” final appearance on the show ahead of his final match on Sunday at Revolution. Matthew and Nicholas Jackson entered the arena at the start of the show, armed with baseball bats. They attempted to find Sting in his locker room to no avail, so they came out to the ring at the end of the night and heckled some fans in Sting masks at ringside, one of whom turned out to be Darby Allin.

The Young Bucks beat up on Allin in the ring with their bats, then called out Ric Flair. Flair was seen heading into the Bucks’ locker room last week on “Dynamite,” seemingly turning on his longtime friend. When the Bucks wanted Flair to hit Allin with one of the bats, Flair turned on them with a thumb to the eye and a cheap shot. The Bucks then started to beat up on Flair, hitting him with a low blow and beating him down. 

It was then that Sting’s music hit, and the Bucks headed up the ramp to wait for him on the stage. Sting never appeared from the back, however, and descended from the rafters armed with his own baseball bat to come to Flair and Allin’s rescue. Allin hit the Bucks with a Coffin Drop, and Sting hit Nicholas with a Scorpion Death Drop to end the show, and Sting’s final “Dynamite.” Allin and Sting put their AEW World Tag Team Championships on the line against the Young Bucks at Revolution.

The Young Bucks Return To AEW On Dynamite: Homecoming, Confront Sting And Darby Allin

The Young Bucks returned to AEW television on Wednesday during “AEW Dynamite: Homecoming” from Daily’s Place in Jacksonville, and while nothing has been officially confirmed, they seem to have been positioned as the opponents of Darby Allin and Sting in the latter’s final match at AEW Revolution.

Matt and Nick Jackson’s music hit on “AEW Dynamite” following Allin and Sting’s tornado tag match against Powerhouse Hobbs and Konosuke Takeshita, where the babyface team got the victory. Sting and Allin, alongside Ric Flair, were in the ring with Tony Schiavone, who asked Sting who his opponent would be for his last match on the March 3 pay-per-view. That was when the Young Bucks appeared, acting very serious, sporting new mustaches, and wearing black and white trenchcoats. They stared down Sting and Allin from the stage before making their way to the back as the show went off the air, suggesting fisticuffs in the near future.

The Bucks have been off TV since losing a future shot at the AEW Tag Team Championships at Full Gear in November. Following the match, Matt Jackson lost his cool at ringside, smashing up the area. At the time it was reported that the Bucks could be turning heel and forming a stable involving Brandon Cutler and possibly Colt Cabana. Sting, for his part, has wrestled exclusively in tag team or multi-man matches since his debut for AEW, where he holds a record of 26-0 as of this writing.

The Young Bucks – ‘Blood & Guts Match Was Rushed’

On a recent edition of the “Swerve City Podcast,” Nick Jackson stated that the ending for the Blood & Guts match on AEW Dynamite last month was indeed rushed.

Nick was frustrated with having to finish the main event early. He said,

“There are some moments, I’ll be honest, I want to say it was Blood & Guts, we had to take the match home quick. I look at Matt and Hangman, “Dangit! That wasn’t the best match. I wanted it to be the best match.’ Matt is like, ‘are we all healthy? Can we walk?’ ‘Yeah. Oh, you’re right.’ Even I get lost sometimes in the moment, ‘I wanted it to go this way, but I’m healthy, whatever.’ That was in the ring, not backstage. The bell rang, we’re raising our hands, and I’m like, ‘Dangit.’”

Matt Jackson noted they watched the match back later and “were popping for everything. At the end of the hour, we’re like, ‘that was friggin’ great.’”

Nick said, “Yeah. I was like, ‘what was I mad about?‘”

The Elite Sign New Multi-Year Deals With AEW

Sports Illustrated reported today that The Elite (Kenny Omega, The Young Bucks, and Hangman Page) have each signed new multi-year deals with the company.

The article added Omega and the Bucks will also continue in their roles as Executive Vice Presidents.

Their deals were slated to expire at the end of this year and reportedly had interest from WWE.

“I’m excited to share that Kenny Omega, The Young Bucks, and Hangman Adam Page will all be staying in AEW for years to come,” AEW owner Tony Khan said in a statement. “We look forward to celebrating the great news with fans around the world.”

Tony Khan confirmed that the new deals with The Elite were inked before tonight’s 200th episode of “AEW Dynamite,”

Here are the statements made by Omega and The Young Bucks:

Kenny Omega: “Our original goal was to create a wrestling alternative and give a platform to talented people that we’d all felt deserved a spotlight,” he said. “I feel like we did our best in that time, and hopefully some people you’d never heard of pre-AEW are folks you enjoy watching today. Or if you knew them from their previous work elsewhere, have maybe found a new appreciation for them. That feeling, combined with the feeling of knowing they can provide for themselves and their family doing what they love, was always the biggest reward of being an EVP/founder. Pro wrestling has a presence almost everywhere on the planet,” he continued. “In my pursuit to become as complete of a performer as possible, my goal was always to experience the styles of the world at their highest level. I believe that with AEW’s current working relationships, and possibly future, I can challenge all forms of pro wrestling and diversify my style so that I’m equipped for any scenario I may encounter in the ring. I was careful to weigh out all options and was open minded to all possibilities,” said Omega. “I’m here to help whomever I can while I’m still around. Up to this point, I’ve made the choice to sacrifice everything in the name of pro wrestling. I can’t say that family or my kids influenced the decision to stay with AEW–I’m not married and without kids–but what I can say is that I’m incredibly proud of my match catalog and the wonderful people I’ve met and continue to meet. AEW not only allows me to continue doing what I do at a high level, but allows the freedom to pursue some other passions I have in life–which, after nearly 25 years in the ring, have become more and more important to me.”

Matt Jackson: “We’re literally the ‘E’ in AEW,” he said. “The Elite are the main characters of this company. No matter how different AEW is now from its original inception, we are the DNA. And if you lose the foundation of your home, it eventually collapses. It’d be a lie if I said that didn’t weigh on us, when making the decision. In my older years of my career, being closer to the end than I am the beginning, I’m not really one who worries much about my legacy anymore,” he continued. “I’ve kind of noticed, like a summer tan, most memories fade. Or, they’re remembered differently or told with errors anyway. Oftentimes the memory is almost instantly forgotten, because you hit the refresh button. As far as my own personal stories, I’ll have enough to retell my grandchildren for a lifetime. And much of those stories can be about how I helped create a massively successful wrestling company where all of your favorites can be seen on live television every week.”

Nick Jackson: “If we’re going to be honest the schedule was a huge part of it,” he said. “I have a wife and three young children and seeing them as much as possible was a big factor. I’m not going to lie, the money was a huge factor, too. At this point of my life and career, I just couldn’t see myself being on the road half of the year or even more than that. I have so much respect for the guys and girls that are able to do that year after year. We for sure could’ve made memories in WWE, but what’s more important to me is making memories with my family. With the position we’re in, I’ll be able to do that and still make memories in AEW.”

Young Bucks’ Matt Jackson Likely To Remain On AEW TV Through Injury

Matt Jackson will reportedly be remaining on AEW television in some capacity moving forward, according to Fightful Select, despite the recent news that he suffered a partially torn bicep. The Elite member will obviously not be able to compete in matches for the foreseeable future due to his injury, but there are still plenty of ways the company could use him. Jackson is currently involved in a major storyline poised to reunite “Hangman” Adam Page with himself, his brother, and Kenny Omega, and he could end up appearing to continue that angle during his time on the shelf.

The injury took place during the AEW World Trios Championship match between the Young Bucks, the Jericho Appreciation Society, and the House of Black on March 15, which he worked through despite being hurt. Last week AEW ran an injury angle for The Young Bucks which saw them leave the arena in ambulances due to a backstage ambush, believed to be by the Blackpool Combat Club. Therefore, the company has a storyline reason to keep Jackson out of the ring that would allow him to turn up on television with his arm in a sling or brace. 

It is also believed that Jackson is hoping to avoid surgery, which would mean a faster recovery time to get back into the ring, and is another reason why AEW might be keen to keep him on television. However, it remains to be seen how things will be handled regarding the overarching storyline between The Elite and Blackpool Combat Club, and when a match between the factions will be possible.
