TMZ reports that 2016 WWE Hall of Famer Sting has decided to retire from in-ring action.

Sting was reportedly evaluated by several doctors that agree it’s too risky for him to get back into the ring after suffering the neck injury against Seth Rollins at WWE Night of Champions last September.

Sting was reportedly diagnosed with cervical spinal stenosis, which affects the nerves and can result in extreme pain and discomfort.

TMZ adds that Sting may make the official announcement at the Hall of Fame ceremony on April 2nd. Sting is said to be open to a non-physical role with the company but no offer had been made at last word.

Undertaker’s Opponent At WrestleMania 32, Sting Speculation

Dave Meltzer reported in the latest issue of The Wrestling Observer that The Undertaker’s opponent for WrestleMania 32 has already been decided, and it’s not someone who is currently on the roster.

Meltzer was asked on Wrestling Observer Radio if that meant it was someone from NXT or someone from another company.

Meltzer replied: “Someone who is not an active wrestler is what I was told, which made me think Sting. I mean, I don’t know if that’s who it is, I mean who else is there out there?”

Meltzer also noted that Bill Goldberg is a possibility, but he thinks it’s unlikely given his rocky relationship with WWE.

Sting Needs Neck Surgery

During Sting’s recent appearance on Wooooo! Nation with Ric Flair on the Play.it podcasting network, Sting revealed that he needs neck surgery stemming from his match against Seth Rollins at Night of Champions.

Sting said Dr. Maroon out of Pittsburgh told him that he need surgery on his neck. Sting said he has two spots in his neck that are troublesome. Sting is hoping that they don’t have to do a fusion surgery which is one of the techniques that they use, but he is not sure that Dr. Maroon will have to do that or not. Sting says John Cena had something very similar and he had his fixed. Sting said that Dr. Maroon has done several of the WWE guys up there and all with great success.

Sting On His Injury, His Condition & If That Was His Last Match

Sting spoke with WWE.com about his injury at Night of Champions and if that was his last match.

WWE.com: Can you set everyone straight on the extent of your injury, as you wait further evaluation?

Sting: Bottom line, I had tingling , numbness down both arms, all the way to my fingertips. And then, later in the match, I just fell wrong, whatever it was, and this time (the tingling and numbness) went down both arms and into my legs, and I couldn’t feel my legs too well. They just felt like rubber. I don’t know how to describe it. I had to go down on all fours there for a minute, get my composure. I was a little … I was worried.

Long term, well, I’m just going to take care of the short term first and see how the long term might play out.

WWE.com: What kind of treatment did you receive after your injury at Night of Champions?

Sting: I was out in the hospital – out like a light. They had a neck brace on me, and they were pumping me with (medication) to get me out of pain. I had to do a CT scan and an MRI. They ended up talking to my wife, and I have some details from my wife, but I still have (further evaluation ahead). They mentioned cervical spinal stenosis, but that’s only part of what I heard. I don’t know if there’s anything else. The doctor did tell my wife, “He’s going to have to get this dealt with. He’s lucky he walked out of there.”

WWE.com: Is getting back in the ring again something you’d want to do? Do you have that desire to return?

Sting: (long pause) Hmmm, in the right scenario … in the right scenario, yeah.

WWE.com: Were you aware of exactly when your injury occurred during the match?

Sting: Oh, yeah, definitely. Both times into the turnbuckle. First time was like a whiplash. (pause) It’s my fault, bottom line. I know better. The second time, I went up in the air and back toward the turnbuckle like that, I thought, “Well, that’s not going to happen again,” and it did. The second time was worse.

WWE.com: Well, where does that leave Sting? Was that your last match?

Sting:  I hate it when I’m asked that question because the answer truly is a question mark, and the question mark is as bold as it could ever be at this point.

WWE.com: Wait and see?

Sting: Yeah, for now.

Why Sting Didn’t Appear On RAW

It was announced yesterday by WWE on WWE.com that Sting would be kicking off RAW with a major announcement. Obviously that didn’t happen as The Wyatt Family kicked of RAW and Sting didn’t appear on the show at all.

It appears there was some miscommunication as TMZ reported that Sting was already home in Dallas resting right around the time WWE reported that he would be in the open of RAW. The announcement was up on WWE.com for no longer than 15 minutes.

Sting was at home resting in Dallas, which is about a 6 hour drive from Laredo. Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Radio noted that Sting was not booked for Hell In A Cell so his WWE status is up in the air right now.
