Former WWE Star Nixon Newell (Tegan Nox) Makes AEW Debut Backstage On Collision

AEW’s growing women’s tag team division got an unexpected boost this weekend as former WWE Superstar Nixon Newell, known to WWE fans as Tegan Nox, made a surprise appearance on the October 25 episode of AEW Collision.

The backstage segment featured Anna Jay and Tay Melo, better known as TayJay, discussing how they’ve been part of AEW’s women’s tag team scene since its earliest days and helped pave the way for the ongoing AEW Women’s World Tag Team Championship Tournament. Their nostalgia trip was quickly interrupted by Nixon Newell and “The Lucha Baddie” Miranda Alize, who stepped in to make a statement of their own.

Newell and Alize declared that they’ve been proving themselves as two of the best wrestlers on the independent scene and decided it was time to show what they can do on wrestling’s biggest stage. Melo didn’t take too kindly to the interruption, calling the newcomers “rude,” but added that if they were looking for a fight, TayJay would be more than happy to meet them in the ring.

The segment marked Newell’s first AEW appearance and her first on major U.S. television since her WWE release in November 2024. That was actually her second departure from the company — the first coming in 2021 before a brief return to the NXT and main roster brands. Since leaving WWE, Newell has stayed active across the independent circuit, regaining her footing and teaming frequently with Alize.

As for Miranda Alize, the “Lucha Baddie” is no stranger to AEW fans. She wrestled several matches for the company between 2019 and 2021, including a memorable clash with Awesome Kong on AEW Dynamite. A veteran of the international scene since her 2014 debut, Alize has competed across Mexico, Japan, and the U.S., often facing — and sometimes teaming with — Newell.

With AEW’s women’s tag tournament heating up, it looks like Newell and Alize may be eyeing a spot in the division. If their Collision appearance is any indication, the duo could be the next major addition to AEW’s growing roster of women’s tag teams.

Backstage News On WWE Releasing Indi Hartwell & Tegan Nox, Not Re-Signing Baron Corbin

WWE announced on Friday the releases of Baron Corbin, Indi Hartwell and Tegan Nox.

Now, Fightful has compiled a series of backstage and out-of-company reactions.

It seems independent bookers are racing to get dates for Baron Corbin, who was informed that his deal with WWE would not be renewed upon its expiration. It’s speculated that Corbin’s deal runs until the end of 2024. It seems that Corbin was uninspired by his recent partnership with Apollo Crews despite the two’s personal friendship, as Corbin did not see their team topping his career-reviving run with Bron Breakker as The Wolf Dogs in “NXT.” It’s unknown whether Corbin will be seen on WWE programming again before his contract expires, but he already has one public offer from former WWE star and NWA Worlds Heavyweight Champion Tyrus.

Tegan Nox was formally released, and is currently under a 90 day non-compete period, with her expected release into free agency scheduled for February 2025. Nox has been largely absent from WWE programming, with her last televised match occurring on the April 1 episode of “WWE Raw.” WWE reportedly had no long-term creative plans for Nox in the months leading up to her release.

Fightful clears up some confusion regarding Hartwell’s posts.

Indi Hartwell, who is also under a 90-day non-compete period, caused a brief social media kerfuffle when her comments on X (formerly known as Twitter) led fans to believe that Hartwell found out about her WWE departure via the Fightful report. Fightful has clarified that Hartwell’s apparent social media confusion was a joke, reporting that Hartwell learned of her departure earlier in the day and that they have and will not report on releases before the affected talent are made aware. Fightful also claims that several backstage staff felt that Hartwell was “coming into her own” prior to her release, especially with her social media skits. Hartwell’s match on the November 1 pre-taped episode of “WWE SmackDown” is believed to be her last appearance for the company; she and Candice LeRae lost a tag team contest to Bayley and Naomi.

It is believed that both Nox and Hartwell, who are United Kingdom- and New Zealand-based wrestlers, respectively, will need to organize work visas before being allowed to compete in any United States-based promotions. WWE has not disclosed any reasoning behind the departures of Corbin, Nox, and Hartwell, but WWE sources told Fightful they are the extent of “this round of cuts,” though the source did not delineate a time frame for “this round” and the date of any potential future cuts remains uncertain.

Tegan Nox Returned To WWE On SmackDown

Tegan Nox is officially back in WWE. Nox made her surprise return during last night’s episode of “SmackDown,” saving Liv Morgan from an attack by Damage CTRL. There had been reports that WWE was interested in bringing her back. Things started to pick up more steam when Michael Cole mentioned her name during the Survivor Series WarGames event, which many fans noticed. Now, Nox is back and ready to pick up where she left off.

Nox was released from WWE just over a year ago. She had been brought up to the main roster, joining “SmackDown” in a tag team alongside Shotzi. But the partnership was short-lived as she got drafted to “Raw,” although she never made an appearance for the brand.

In the time since her release, Nox was completely inactive in the wrestling world, which led some people to speculate that she had retired from in-ring action. Nox later debunked those rumors by revealing that the reason for her absence is much more complicated. She said she had trouble getting her visa, which legally prevented her from wrestling or coming back to the U.S. if she decided to leave. It seems as if the situation is now resolved

Nox is the latest in a string of comebacks under the creative regime of Paul “Triple H” Levesque. She was a major star and fan-favorite during her run in “NXT” and also appeared on “NXT UK.” She had a heated rivalry with her longtime friend, Dakota Kai. Now that Nox appears to be involved in a feud with Damage CTRL, there’s little doubt her history with Kai will play a factor.

WWE Releases Eight More Superstars, Including John Morrison, Tegan Nox, Drake Maverick & Hit Row

WWE has released eight more superstars, including Hit Row, John Morrison and Drake Maverick.

WWE has performed another round of budget cuts.

On Thursday evening, Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful.com reported that WWE has released eight more superstars: Top Dolla, Ashante Adonis, Isaiah Swerve Scott, John Morrison, Drake Maverick, Shane Thorne, Tegan Nox and Jaxson Ryker. According to Sapp, WWE Head of Talent Relations John Laurinaitis informed the eight talents that they were being released due to budget cuts.

Maverick posted the following Twitter video following the news of his release:

Since his tag team partnership with The Miz ended, Morrison has rarely been seen on television. The former Intercontinental Champion returned to the WWE in Jan. 2020, and he spent most of his latest WWE tenure working with The Miz. Morrison’ s wife Taya Valkyrie (Franky Monet) was recently released.

Less than two years ago, WWE was keen on stockpiling superstars, presumably so that the rival AEW promotion wouldn’t be able to land them. But WWE has made the controversial decision to release dozens of talented wrestlers who provided great value to the company, including major fan favorites who never really got a chance on the main roster.

Shotzi Blackheart And Tegan Nox Make WWE SmackDown Debut

NXT Superstars Shotzi Blackheart and Tegan Nox made their WWE SmackDown debut last night.

Tegan Nox and Shotzi Blackheart kicked off their main roster careers with a huge victory over WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions Tamina and Natalya in a non-title tag match on the most recent edition of SmackDown on FOX. The pair was revealed as Natalya and Tamina’s mystery opponents moments before the match began.

Tegan Nox Returns To NXT As Battery Charges Up, New NXT Women’s Tag Champions Crowned

Io Shirai and Zoey Stark are your new WWE NXT Women’s Tag Team Champions, and Tegan Nox has made her return to NXT.

Las night’s NXT Great American Bash special saw Shirai and Stark defeat Candice LeRae and Indi Hartwell to win the straps, after Nox returned and caused a distraction.

Nox was revealed to be the Superstar behind the recent battery charger teasers. As The Way looked to end the match, the lights inside the Capitol Wrestling Center went out, and the battery charger hit 100% on the big screen. Nox then appeared on the stage, shocking LeRae. This led to Shirai taking out the champs one more time, and Stark getting the pin to win on Hartwell. Nox attacked LeRae after the match and chased her to the back, allowing Shirai and Stark time for their post-match celebration.

This is the first reign for Shirai and Stark. The Way held the titles for 59 days, winning them back on May 4 after defeating Ember Moon and Shotzi Blackheart in a Street Fight.

As noted before, Nox returned to in-ring action in a pre-RAW dark match on Monday night, against Toni Storm. She has been out of action since September 2020 after suffering a torn ACL, her third since 2017. She was feuding with LeRae at the time of the injury, and LeRae was blamed for the injury in the storylines. It was reported that Nox actually suffered the injury while doing rehab.

NXT Superstar Tegan Nox Returns To Action In Raw Dark Match

In a pre-Raw dark match with Toni Storm, NXT Superstar Tegan Nox returned to the ring for the first time since suffering a torn ACL last August.

After a lengthy injury-induced absence, NXT Superstar Tegan Nox returned to the ring in a dark match prior to the most recent edition of Raw.

According to PWInsider’s Mike Johnson, Tegan Nox worked a match inside the WWE ThunderDome with fellow NXT Superstar Toni Storm prior to Raw going on the air.

If the report is accurate, the match would be Nox’s first in almost a year. Her last match was a Tri-Brand Battle Royal to determine the number-one contender to the SmackDown Women’s title. The match went down on the August 13 edition of SmackDown which aired live from WWE Performance Center just a few days before WWE moved its on-screen business to the WWE ThunderDome.

Tegan Nox’s WWE tenure has been plagued by injury woes. She signed with the company in 2017 and was scheduled to compete in the inaugural Mae Young Classic, but was forced to withdraw after tearing her ACL before the tournament began.

The Welsh wrestler competed in the second Mae Young Classic in 2018 but was suffered numerous injuries in her quarter-final match with Rhea Ripley. As well as tearing her ACL again, Nox suffered a torn lateral collateral ligament and a patellar dislocation. She eventually recovered and went on to feature in some high-profile NXT bouts. Nox teamed with Shotzi Blackheart in a WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship match against Sasha Banks and Bayley in June of 2020 before tragically tearing her ACL yet again that August.

Recently, several developmental talents have been featured in main-roster dark matches, as well as appearing on Main Event. Both Karrion Kross and Bronson Reed were backstage on SmackDown a few weeks ago and performed in dark matches. The pair returned for Raw the following week to perform in taped matches on Main Event. Toni Strom, Shotzi Blackheart, and Odyssey Jones have also been participating in main roster activities lately.

Tegan Nox Returns From Injury At WWE NXT Live Event (Photos)

Tegan Nox made her ring return at last night’s WWE NXT live event from Orlando, Florida.
