WWE Expected To Announce Amway Center In Orlando As location Of SummerSlam, May Hold Other Events and TV Tapings At The Site, Virtual Fans

WWE is expected to announce the Amway Center in Orlando, Florida as the location for the SummerSlam pay-per-view on August 23. They’re also looking at the venue for other upcoming events and TV tapings.

It was reported on Thursday, via PWInsider, that WWE was considering the use of virtual fans for SummerSlam, something FOX has done for recent MLB broadcasts. Now @Wrestlevotes reports that WWE has a much bigger interactive experience planned for the Amway Center.

It was noted that WWE is about to begin a “new long term residency” at the Amway Center, indicating they have signed a lease with the venue, which has been “officially” closed until 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This residency includes a new interactive experience that will see fans appear live on the show via LED boards. The interactive experience will be hosted by WWE Superstars and Legends.

The interactive experience will be shown in the arena with more than 2,500 square foot of LED boards.

WWE should be announcing details on the interactive experience soon as it was noted that applications for people to appear on screen will open next week.

UPDATE

WWE production trucks have arrived at the Amway Center in Orlando, Florida.

Local reporter Jon Alba tweeted the following video of WWE loading their equipment into the building today.

WWE is set to tape upcoming pay-per-view and TV events from the Amway Center. You can click here to read our recent report on a very interesting new “interactive experience” WWE has planned for the venue, in which fans will be shown on large LED boards.

The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that the return to live TV will begin with next Friday’s SummerSlam go-home edition of SmackDown on FOX. If everything goes smooth with SummerSlam Weekend, the idea is to host as much live TV as possible from the Amway Center for the forseeable future.

The idea is that WWE really wants to get out of the Performance Center as far as filming goes. They are putting part of the blame for the drop in TV ratings on not being live and the darkness of the Performance Center, according to The Observer.

The return to live programming outside of the Performance Center will mean an increase in production costs that the company has saved on while filming at their own facility. It will also mean talent and staff will be traveling twice as much, assuming they stay with live programming, and effectively ignoring the 14-day quarantine mandates set by states like Connecticut and New York.

The WWE NXT brand will not be impacted by the main roster move to the Amway Center as the current plan for the black & yellow brand is to remain at the NXT Arena on the campus of Full Sail University in Winter Park, FL.

Bray Wyatt Comments On New Theme, WWE Edits Out Wyatt’s Head Lantern

WWE re-posted Bray Wyatt’s SummerSlam entrance as The Fiend and edited out a part where he used a Wyatt head as the lantern holder. The original video featured an up-close shot of the head.

Wyatt debuted “The Fiend” at SummerSlam on Sunday night and defeated Finn Balor. This was one of the most-talked about happenings coming out of the pay-per-view, and received a “that was awesome!” chant from fans in the Scotiabank Arena in Toronto. Social media indicates mostly positive feedback to the entire presentation, from entrance to post-match exit.

WWE previously released Wyatt’s TitanTron entrance video on YouTube but deleted it after it was online for about an hour on Monday. They have not re-posted the video as of this writing.

“The Fiend” is also drawing big for WWE’s YouTube channel. As of this writing, the re-posted video of Wyatt’s SummerSlam entrance has 2.356 million viewers while a clip from the Wyatt vs. Balor match has 915,332 views.

To compare, a clip from Randy Orton vs. WWE Champion Kofi Kingston has 637,000 views while footage from Brock Lesnar vs. WWE Universal Champion Seth Rollins has 3.2 million views, Charlotte Flair vs. WWE Hall of Famer Trish Stratus has 337,000 views, and Dolph Ziggler vs. WWE Hall of Famer Bill Goldberg has 1.7 million views.

Hardcore punk band Code Orange scored the new theme song for Wyatt. This “Let Me In” song was their remix/cover of Mark Crozer’s “Live In Fear” single. The band wrote on Twitter, “LET. HIM. IN. @WWEBrayWyatt proud to set the tone for THE FIEND from here on out. #HURT #HEAL”

Wyatt then gave the band props on Twitter, writing, “Big props to @codeorangetoth For successfully creating a soundtrack to the technicolor pit that is my mind. Damn it feels good to be a Gangsta #YowieWowie”

Code Orange previously played Aleister Black’s “Root of All Evil” entrance at the WWE NXT“Takeover: Brooklyn III” event in 2017, before Black’s win over Hideo Itami. Their “Bleeding In the Blur” single was used as the Takeover theme song that night, and the event opened with a live performance by the band.

Trish Stratus Says Her SummerSlam Match This Sunday Will Be Her Final Match

The 43-year-old has only wrestled sporadically since 2006. At WrestleMania 27 she teamed with Snooki and John Morrison in a match against Dolph Ziggler and LayCool. She was also part of the first Women’s Royal Rumble last year and wrestled in a match the following night on Raw.

Goldberg vs. Dolph Ziggler Set For SummerSlam

Goldberg made an appearance last night on RAW during a MizTV interview segment after it was explained that the contract Dolph Ziggler signed wasn’t for a match against The Miz as previously announced or against Shawn Michaels who was on hand for the segment.

Goldberg signed the contract and said to Ziggler – “Your’e Next.”

Just as the show was coming to a close …  Shawn Michaels hit Ziggler with some Sweet Chin Music.

Trish Stratus Accepts Charlotte Flair’s SummerSlam Challenge

It’s official! Trish Stratus vs. Charlotte Flair at WWE SummerSlam.

Stratus was a guest on “The King’s Court” this week during SmackDown Live in Memphis and the interview with Jerry Lawler was interrupted by Flair.

Charlotte then bragged about being “The Queen of All Eras” and challenged Trish to a match.

When Stratus didn’t immediately respond, Flair angrily stated: “I expected more out of the 7-time Women’s Champion! But I know what it is … the WWE has evolved and we’re no longer models shaking their assets, we are women changing the industry. Trailblazers like me. I expected more fire out of you.”

Trish retorted by shouting out some former WWE women stars like Lita, Ivory and Beth Phoenix, then said “to be the woman, you have to beat the woman,” and accepted the challenge.

Trish Stratus To Appear Tomorrow On SmackDown Live

WWE Hall of Famer Trish Stratus has been announced for a segment on SmackDown Live.

SmackDown Live emanates from Memphis next week and Jerry Lawler announced he’ll be interviewing Trish Stratus in his hometown.

Multiple sources have confirmed that current SummerSlam plans have Trish Stratus wrestling Charlotte Flair, which takes place in Trish’s hometown of Toronto, Ontario, Canada on August 11th.

WWE Hall Of Famer Trish Stratus To Wrestle At SummerSlam?

WWE Hall of Famer Trish Stratus is currently in talks to wrestle a singles match at the WWE SummerSlam pay-per-view, according to Pro Wrestling Sheet.

There’s no word yet on who Stratus will be wrestling, but it looks like she could be going up against Charlotte Flair. Tonight’s SmackDown featured Flair ranting about being left off the SummerSlam card. Flair demanded to be put on the card, and said she will prove why she’s the greatest female Superstar of all-time. She also said her opponent will be better than Ember Moon, a reference to Moon vs. SmackDown Women’s Champion Bayley at SummerSlam.

Flair also took to Twitter after SmackDown and wrote, “Queen of all of ERAS of Women’s Wrestling #SummerSlam”

SummerSlam takes place on August 11 from Trish’s hometown of Toronto, Ontario, Canada at the Scotiabank Arena.

There’s no word yet on when Stratus will return to WWE TV to promote the match. This will be her first match since October 2018, when she teamed with WWE Hall of Famer Lita to defeat Mickie James and Alicia Fox at Evolution, then worked a ten-woman tag team match on RAW the next night.
