Despite Neck Issue, Sting Feels He Could Still Wrestle Undertaker (AUDIO)

Sting vs. The Undertaker is a match that will likely never happen … but “The Icon” believes he’s still physically capable enough to put on a good match with “The Deadman.”

As you may recall, Sting was forced to retire from the ring due to medical issues. However, the wrestler told Lilian Garcia on the latest Chasing Glory podcast he feels like he and Taker would tell an incredible story if they were somehow given the opportunity.

“It’s sad to, because even at my age, I feel like I could still go — I could still have a real good Undertaker match, for example,” said Sting. “I think we could tell an incredible story with the gimmicks and the mystique of both of them.”

Sting said he’s always yearned for the showdown with Undertaker. Missing out on that match is one of the few regrets he has for not coming to WWE sooner.

“You know, I’ve had these ideas for 20 years — some of the ideas I have in my head,” he added.  “It would be something I think people would talk about for a long time.”

Despite those desires, don’t get confused: Sting says he has no plans to return to the ring.  After being diagnosed with spinal stenosis, he made it clear he’s done.

Sting Says He Can Still Wrestle (But Not Going To), Reveals If He’s Interested In On-Air WWE Role

Sting recently experimented with Facebook Live on his official Facebook page. While his comments were brief, they were newsworthy nonetheless.

“I can still wrestle,” Sting said. “I can still wrestle! I’m just not going to.”

Sting worked his last match on September 20, 2015, where he was defeated by Seth Rollins at WWE Night of Champions. He suffered multiple neck injuries in the bout that were career-ending.

When asked if he would be open to an on-air role on WWE television, similar to what Kurt Angle is doing now, Sting responded:

“Yeah, I might consider something like that,” Sting said. “Good to see Kurt back by the way.”

WWE Hall of Famer Sting stars in a new spoof video put out Tuesday by the Dallas Cowboys… and it shows what things would be like if he was hired to be the team’s “intimidation coach.”

The retired Superstar is shown telling a camera crew that boredom set in after he hung up his boots, so he decided to take a position with the Cowboys in an interesting role.

Best part of the video is Sting walking around doing various office things … like getting held up by security for bringing his bat into the office, chatting with various co-workers and more.

Zeke Elliot and Jason Witten also make an appearance in the footage.

Sting On His Injury, His Condition & If That Was His Last Match

Sting spoke with WWE.com about his injury at Night of Champions and if that was his last match.

WWE.com: Can you set everyone straight on the extent of your injury, as you wait further evaluation?

Sting: Bottom line, I had tingling , numbness down both arms, all the way to my fingertips. And then, later in the match, I just fell wrong, whatever it was, and this time (the tingling and numbness) went down both arms and into my legs, and I couldn’t feel my legs too well. They just felt like rubber. I don’t know how to describe it. I had to go down on all fours there for a minute, get my composure. I was a little … I was worried.

Long term, well, I’m just going to take care of the short term first and see how the long term might play out.

WWE.com: What kind of treatment did you receive after your injury at Night of Champions?

Sting: I was out in the hospital – out like a light. They had a neck brace on me, and they were pumping me with (medication) to get me out of pain. I had to do a CT scan and an MRI. They ended up talking to my wife, and I have some details from my wife, but I still have (further evaluation ahead). They mentioned cervical spinal stenosis, but that’s only part of what I heard. I don’t know if there’s anything else. The doctor did tell my wife, “He’s going to have to get this dealt with. He’s lucky he walked out of there.”

WWE.com: Is getting back in the ring again something you’d want to do? Do you have that desire to return?

Sting: (long pause) Hmmm, in the right scenario … in the right scenario, yeah.

WWE.com: Were you aware of exactly when your injury occurred during the match?

Sting: Oh, yeah, definitely. Both times into the turnbuckle. First time was like a whiplash. (pause) It’s my fault, bottom line. I know better. The second time, I went up in the air and back toward the turnbuckle like that, I thought, “Well, that’s not going to happen again,” and it did. The second time was worse.

WWE.com: Well, where does that leave Sting? Was that your last match?

Sting:  I hate it when I’m asked that question because the answer truly is a question mark, and the question mark is as bold as it could ever be at this point.

WWE.com: Wait and see?

Sting: Yeah, for now.

Why Sting Didn’t Appear On RAW

It was announced yesterday by WWE on WWE.com that Sting would be kicking off RAW with a major announcement. Obviously that didn’t happen as The Wyatt Family kicked of RAW and Sting didn’t appear on the show at all.

It appears there was some miscommunication as TMZ reported that Sting was already home in Dallas resting right around the time WWE reported that he would be in the open of RAW. The announcement was up on WWE.com for no longer than 15 minutes.

Sting was at home resting in Dallas, which is about a 6 hour drive from Laredo. Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Radio noted that Sting was not booked for Hell In A Cell so his WWE status is up in the air right now.
