Stephanie McMahon On What Causes Changes To WrestleMania Plans

Stephanie McMahon spoke at the Fortune Most Powerful Women Summit in Washington D.C. on Wednesday, and she revealed some details about just how much the WWE Universe impacts the company’s strategy.

McMahon, the Chief Brand Officer for the WWE, described how audience feedback can force the company to adjust its plans. She said that plans for WrestleMania are set a year in advance, and then they can be changed based on how the WWE Universe reacts to the storylines.

“Our audience tells us what they love, what they don’t like and worse, what they don’t care about. And you have to be listening, and in WWE, yes, we do, we pivot on the fly,” McMahon said. It’s an advantage that we’re live. We do set our storylines out a year in advance, WrestleMania being our Super Bowl and then we program backwards, but things happen. The audience might not be invested in a character that we think they will be invested in for whatever reason. There could be an injury that happens, because we really are an incredible athletic event as well. Anything can happen, so that ability to pivot and twist is really important.”

So if the audience doesn’t respond to a wrestler the way the company had predicted, it could lead to a halted push. On the flipside, it’s possible for a lower-tier superstar to be given a chance if the audience clamors for it lout enough.

McMahon pointed to NXT as a clear example for how the audience affects programming. The NXT Universe is the most passionate fan base in all of WWE, so their reactions help determine which superstars are ready for a call-up to the main roster.

“And when you think about NXT, for example, our audience is actually determining who makes it to the next level, who goes to that main roster,” McMahon said. “And they know it, they know that they are a part of that person’s success, so they are that much more invested in it. And again, I just think that engagement is really important.”

Stephanie McMahon Training For WrestleMania 32

Stephanie McMahon noted on Twitter that she was training last night to get in shape for WrestleMania 32,  indicating that she may be wrestling a match at the biggest show of the year.

At one point, WWE wanted Stephanie to do something with Ronda Rousey at WrestleMania 32, but Rousey’s status is still up in the air. It was believed she would not be appearing but if she did, she likely would not wrestle.

Stephanie’s last match came at SummerSlam in 2014, where she defeated Brie Bella.

Elijah is Tough Enough

There is a lot to be said about the global phenomenon that is WWE. Some people think it’s the greatest thing to happen since slice bread while others in the IWC always have something bad to say about the flagship wrestling promotion.
One of the things that you can not deny about WWE is that they love to give back. It’s well known that the WWE superstars and divas alike are some of the most requested and highest wish granters for The Make a wish Foundation.

Let’s not forget their constant community service and there Be a Star campaign. Say what you want about the product but you got to give credit where credit is due. The people behind what we love so much have hearts of gold.

Tonight will serve as a prime example that the WWE is undeniably great at being a service to others.

A few weeks ago the WWE universe met a young man named Elijah. In a video that was posted on WWE’s Twitter and Facebook pages Triple H and Stephanie McMahon informed little Elijah that he was now Mr. Money in the Bank. Inside the briefcase was an official WWE superstar contract!

If you haven’t seen the video you can view it here in a tweet that chairmen Vince McMahon sent out earlier today

Yep you heard that right. Elijah is the newest superstar to the ever growing WWE roster. Tonight live on WWE Monday night Raw It will be made official as Elijah will be accompanied to the ring by his favorite Wrestler Stardust And the Authority will be awaiting their arrival to welcome Elijah to the roster.

It is sure to be s heartfelt moment and I’m sure I speak for everyone here. “You won’t want to miss it:

Live with Chris Jericho recap

One of the many perks of the WWE NETWORK are the exclusives you get. One of those exclusives is Live with Chris Jericho.

Tonight was the 2nd edition of the show and Chris Jericho’s guest was none other than Stephanie McMahon herself. In this in depth one on one conversation many topics were covered. Everything from how Stephanie got started in the business, her relationship with her husband Triple H, her favorite moments in her career, her feud with Jericho, her infamous slap, the segment with Ronda Rousey at mania and so much more.

While watching this interview you can’t help but love Stephanie. She truly is an incredible woman with a big heart and an undying love for this business. Even though Stephanie portrays a heel on television that couldn’t be further from the truth. Stephanie however says playing a heel is important especially when she gets what’s coming to her because it shows the WWE universe to stand up to the bully. She talked about what an impact Be a Star has had and how much she wishes it was around in the early days.

Stephanie admits that she loves being a “Bitch” on television and the boos she receives is the greatest feeling. Boos are like a standing ovation to heels and she absolutely loves it.

On working with Ronda Rousey.

Stephanie said that from the moment she slapped The Rock and heard the crowd chatting for Ronda she knew the moment was going to be good. She said to work with someone as empowering as Ronda was incredible. She says what she loves about Ronda is that she isn’t afraid to be herself and she hopes that her daughters can learn to be like her.

She also went on to say that Ronda proves that women can main event and she hopes to one day do the same with the WWE divas. She continued to say she wants to work with Ronda again but only time will tell and she was proud of that mania moment.

Regarding #GiveDivasAChance

Stephanie spoke on that it was trending on Twitter for 3 days and that’s because the fans wanted to be heard. She went on to say that the moment was so important that Vince McMahon himself had to respond. Stephanie went on to say that she continues to push #GiveDivasAchance everyday and hopes that one day they can get a true chance to prove themselves.

On her favorite match/moment.

Her match with Brie Bella is her favorite thing in her career for two reasons.

  • It had been 11 years since she last competed in the ring prior to that moment
  • Her 3 daughters where in the crowd

When describing this moment Stephanie got emotional because after the match concluded and she went backstage she was met by her daughters chanting “you still got it

In this interview she also talked about

  • Her oldest daughter being a natural-born heel
  • Working with Chris Jericho
  • Sharing Vickie Guerrero’s final moment of her career with her
  • Being scared by George ” the animal steal”
  • Her brother Shane

If you missed this one I highly suggest you watch it on demand on the network if you can or find it on YouTube or something because it was awesome and insightful.

News On Possible Ronda Rousey VS Stephanie McMahon At WrestleMania 32

F4WOnline reports that while there is no deal in place for a Ronda Rousey VS Stephanie McMahon match, there is said to be an understanding between the two sides that they want the match to take place at WrestleMania 32.

According to Dave Meltzer of The Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE has wanted to do the match between Rousey and Stephanie since Rousey attended the 2014 SummerSlam pay-per-view when the 4 Horsewomen helped Stephanie with her ALS Ice Bucket Challenge.

There are many factors to be worked out in order for Rousey to compete in a WWE ring due to her being under contract with UFC, if UFC would even consider it. With that said the Rousey VS Stephanie singles match could easily end up being something like The Rock VS Triple H with Rousey and Stephanie in their corners.
