Stephanie McMahon Resigns As WWE CEO & Chairwoman of WWE

Stephanie McMahon has resigned as CEO and Chairwoman of WWE.

Less than a week after Vince McMahon came out of retirement and reinstated himself to WWE’s Board of Directors, his daughter, Stephanie McMahon, has stepped down as the co-CEO of the company.

Stephanie announced her decision via Twitter on Tuesday evening. In the statement, she recalled returning to WWE last year to serve as the co-CEO alongside Nick Khan, which she described as a “privilege.” However, now that her father has returned to guide the company in collaboration with Khan and Paul “Triple H” Levesque, she believes that WWE is in a perfect position to deliver “unparalleled creative content and drive maximum value for shareholders.”

In the statement, McMahon acknowledges her previous leave of absence, which she was undertaking before Vince stepped down as CEO amid his sexual misconduct and hush money scandals. However, it seems that Stephanie’s latest absence will be more permanent, as she announced her “official resignation” and revealed that she’ll be “cheering on WWE from the other side of the business.”

Following Stephanie’s announcement, WWE put out a press release that included thoughts from her father. “First, I’d like to express my full support for Stephanie’s personal decision. I’ll forever be grateful that she offered to step in during my absence and I’m truly proud of the job she did co-leading WWE,” Vince said. “Stephanie has always been the ultimate ambassador for our company, and her decades of contributions have left an immeasurable impact on our brand.”

Per WWE’s press release, Khan will serve as the company’s CEO moving forward. According to Vince, Khan’s “business acumen and mastery of the media industry have helped catapult our business to record revenue and profitability,” and he looks forward to working with him as WWE explores “strategic alternatives” during this critical juncture in the company’s history.

Stephanie McMahon Touts New WWE Signee – “Cheer” Star Gabi Butler

WWE Co-CEO Stephanie McMahon took to Twitter on Sunday evening and shared about chatting with new WWE signee and “Cheer” star Gabi Butler at Saturday’s WWE premium live event, Survivor Series: WarGames.

“It was great to chat with WWE’s newest signee, @GabiButlerCheer, before #SurvivorSeries #WarGames. I can’t wait to see what you do in the ring,” tweeted McMahon.

It was previously reported last Tuesday by People, Butler signed a contract with WWE after her visit to Nashville during SummerSlam weekend. The 24-year-old had stated that McMahon “really inspired” her to make the transition from cheerleading to WWE.

She will be continuing to cheer, as she has two years of college eligibility left. Butler previously competed at the Navarro College cheerleading program, where she prepared for NCA College Nationals under coach Monica Aldama. The second season of “Cheer,” was released earlier this year, while the first season was released in 2020.

Last night’s Survivor Series: WarGames was the final main roster premium live event of the year and it was the first-ever WarGames matches on the main roster.

Vince McMahon Has Voluntarily Stepped Down As Chairman And CEO Of WWE, Stephanie McMahon Appointed Interim CEO

News broke revealing Vince McMahon is being investigated by WWE’s board of directors. The main claim made against the chairman is that McMahon had an affair with a former WWE employee, and when the consensual relationship came to an end, the boss paid her a $3 million settlement to keep quiet about it.

Just two days later, that investigation has led to Vince voluntarily stepping down as WWE’s CEO and chairman pending the results of the investigation. “Effective immediately, McMahon has voluntarily stepped back from his responsibilities as CEO and Chairman of the Board until the conclusion of the investigation,” a press release issued by WWE reads, via Wrestling Inc.

As for who will fill Vince’s role while the investigation is ongoing, and perhaps for good depending on the results, that will be his daughter, Stephanie McMahon. The boss’s daughter has been appointed interim CEO and interim chairwoman of the company in her father’s absence. Vince won’t be gone completely for the time being. The press release also makes clear that Vince will retain his responsibilities as WWE’s head of creative content.

“I have pledged my complete cooperation to the investigation by the Special Committee, and I will do everything possible to support the investigation,” Vince’s part of the official statement from WWE reads. “It is extremely important to me that we have a safe and collaborative workplace. I have committed to doing everything in my power to help the Special Committee complete its work,” Stephanie writes. Her return to fill in as chairwoman comes just a month after she stepped back from her role as WWE’s chief brand officer.

It’s currently unclear how this will affect the day-to-day of WWE for the fans, especially since Vince has retained his role as the head of the company’s creative. That could all change depending on the results of the investigation, of course, although the duration of it also remains unclear at present. The investigation also includes other claims of misconduct made against both Vince and John Laurinaitis since the initial news about the alleged affair and payoff broke.

Stephanie McMahon Announces Leave Of Absence From WWE

In a shocking turn of events, WWE Chief Brand Officer Stephanie McMahon announced yesterday that she is stepping away from WWE for the foreseeable future. McMahon released a statement on Twitter announcing the move, while also signaling she would eventually return to her post.

“As of tomorrow, I am taking a leave of absence from the majority of my responsibilities at WWE,” McMahon tweeted. “WWE is a lifelong legacy for me and I look forward to returning to the company that I love after taking this time to focus on my family.”

McMahon gave no reason for her leave of absence at this time, nor did she provide a timetable for her eventual return. It is unknown at this time who will fill McMahon’s role as CBO during her absence.

Stephanie McMahon began her business career in WWE as an Accountant Executive before becoming WWE’s head writer in 2000; she would eventually be promoted to the position of Senior Vice President of Creative Writing in 2006 and then later Executive Vice President of Creative in 2007. She would continue in that role until being promoted to Chief Brand Officer in 2013, which she held until this week.

McMahon’s husband, WWE legend and Executive Vice President for Global Talent Strategy & Development Triple H was forced to retire from wrestling and cut down his workload after he suffered a serious cardiac event last year. Whether Triple H’s health issues played a part in McMahon’s decision today is unclear. The couple has three daughters together, one of whom has already begun training for wrestling.

UPDATE:

Dave Meltzer reports that Stephanie’s leave of absence was absolutely her choice and the decision to step away from WWE for a while had been made some time ago. This is not something Stephanie decided to do yesterday nor does it sound like she was forced or pressured to relieve her duties.

Although Stephanie was contemplating taking a break for some time, it was also noted that virtually no one within WWE knew about Stephanie’s impending exit except for a few who remained tight-lipped until Stephanie released the info on Twitter. This echos reports from yesterday about who within WWE knew this was coming.

In Stephanie’s tweet, she mentioned that she was taking time away to focus on her family. Although that is a big part of the reason for her departure, it was also stated that there is likely more to it and the few people who knew weren’t saying much except that some of the basic reasons being given are not accurate.

As far as what Stephanie’s decision means for the future of WWE, at this point, there’s only speculation.

The newsletter also confirmed what Wrestlenomics reported last night, that WWE President & Chief Revenue Officer Nick Khan will be taking over most of Stephanie’s duties with immediate effect. Furthermore, all those who previously reported to Stephanie will now be reporting to Khan.

Stephanie McMahon has been the public face of WWE for nearly two decades. Besides being the CBO, she is a member of the WWE’s Board of Directors and aside from Vince McMahon, she remains the only original McMahon family member actively working for the company. Stephanie also owns 2.5 percent of the WWE stock which is valued around $116 million.

Triple H And Stephanie McMahon’s Oldest Daughter Has Started Wrestling Training

Another generation of McMahons is already preparing for their in-ring debut.

Wrestling is very much a family business for a lot of people. The Guerreros, the Harts, the Von Erichs. The list of families who have so many members in the business that they have become synonymous with the industry goes on and on. You can’t leave the McMahons off that list, of course. Whether you like Vince McMahon and WWE in its current form or not, there’s no knowing where wrestling would be today without the McMahon family.

The McMahons have been wrestlers ever since Vince first decided to trade the boardroom and the announce desk for the ring, and his father and grandfather were promoters before him. Shane and Stephanie have followed in their father’s footsteps, and it seems even more McMahons will be entering the ring and be a part of WWE in the future.

That’s according to Stephanie who recently revealed to TalkSport that hers and Triple H’s oldest daughter has already started training. “Just like her grandfather, she wants to be the boss so we’ll see what happens with my oldest daughter who has already started training in the ring,” Stephanie said.

The WWE power couple’s oldest daughter is 15 and is called Aurora. Apparently, when she was eight, she told her parents she doesn’t want their jobs, she wants Vince’s. If Aurora is going to follow in her grandad’s footsteps, then that will require competing in the ring as well as running the company. She clearly seems to be preparing for that having already started to train. Their youngest daughter is also interested in the business, but Stephanie didn’t mention their middle daughter.

Since Aurora is only 15, her in-ring debut is still a long way off. It’s exciting to think that there is another generation of McMahons waiting in the wings. Not just Triple H and Stephanie’s three daughters, but also Shane’s three sons. As for Aurora, since she is only five years younger than The Rock’s daughter Simone Johnson, and Johnson is already under contract in NXT, perhaps the two will reignite their dads’ rivalry a decade or so from now.

Stephanie McMahon Promises Surprises For SummerSlam

SummerSlam 2021 is just a few months away, and WWE’s Chief Brand Officer Stephanie McMahon is guaranteeing that there will be some big surprises at the event, which goes down on August 21, 2021, at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.

Stephanie was being interviewed by Yahoo Finance when she was asked when she’ll be getting back in the ring again.

“Ever since Ronda Rousey broke my arm, I have a little PTSD. I’m not sure you’re going to see me in the ring anytime soon,” Stephanie said. “But I guarantee for SummerSlam, there is going to be a lot of surprises,” she added.

In the same interview, Stephanie addressed the recent WWE layoffs, the challenges the company faced during the pandemic, and its touring preparations.

“Like a lot of media companies, we’re in the process of transition and evolution,” she clarified. “When you consider the fact that we had three different media teams doing the same work, we realized there was a lot of duplication and Inefficiency. It’s being more prudent business people and looking at our business in a different way.”

The live event is where our event really comes to life,” Stephanie said. “When you think about WWE superstars, they are akin to superheroes, except they’re real, genuine, authentic, you can come see them in person.”

SummerSlam will be WWE’s first major pay-per-view to take place in front of a capacity crowd since 2019’s Royal Rumble. It will be the second WWE pay-per-view on WWE’s 25-city tour, which will run from July 16 to Labor Day. The first one, Money in the Bank, will take place on July 18 at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas. Last year’s SummerSlam event was held at the Amway Center in Orlando, Florida. It was the first WWE pay-per-view to feature the ThunderDome concept.

As noted, WWE and NBCU have signed a new multi-year agreement that will make Peacock the exclusive home of the WWE Network in the United States. You can read Stephanie’s full comments below:

I’m excited to share that this morning WWE and NBCUniversal announced a multi-year agreement that will make Peacock the exclusive home to WWE Network in the United States.

WWE was one of the first to launch a SVOD service, WWE Network, in 2014 to super-serve our most passionate fans with WWE’s most premium content as well as an incredible library of in-ring and original programming that has grown over the last seven years. Since launching last year, Peacock has amassed an incredible catalog of iconic movies and TV shows, along with the best of live news and sports, to which WWE Network will be a perfect complement.

WWE and NBCU have been partners for nearly 30 years, and we consider this to be a natural extension of our long-standing relationship. Peacock will enable WWE to showcase our most significant events, including WrestleMania, which was previously available on WWE Network for $9.99 per month, to Peacock’s 26 million subscribers for $4.99 per month and for free to the millions of Comcast and Cox homes across the country, helping to better serve and grow our global fanbase.

We are thrilled to bring WWE Network to Peacock beginning March 18, and to continue to create best-in-class sports entertainment content that will not only put smiles on people’s faces, but provide our fans with an experience worthy of their passion.

Triple H And Stephanie McMahon To Host WWE Memorabilia Show For A&E

Triple H and Stephanie McMahon are (kinda) getting into the collectibles business!

No word yet on who might be joining them.
