Sheamus Video Package Airs On WWE Raw, Suggesting Imminent Return

Former WWE Champion Sheamus has hasn’t been seen on WWE TV since August due to a shoulder injury, but that could be changing very soon. A video package for “The Celtic Warrior” aired during Monday’s episode of “WWE Raw,” though a set return date for the star was not immediately confirmed. The video showcased highlights from Sheamus’ previous matches, with the former champion’s voice-over saying he comes “from a long line of Celtic warriors” and that he doesn’t care if a brawl is in an arena, bar room or back in Ireland, “the time for fighting is now.”

Sheamus was last seen on “WWE SmackDown” last summer when he took on Edge, now known as AEW”s Adam Copeland, in his final WWE match. Despite being accompanied by the Brawling Brutes, Butch and Ridge Holland, Sheamus was defeated by Edge after “The Rated R Superstar” hit him with two Spears.

Sheamus is a former King of the Ring. Money in the Bank, and Royal Rumble winner, as well as a three-time WWE Champion and one-time World Heavyweight Champion. He started The Brawling Brutes faction in back in November 2021, but a reunion upon his return is unlikely — Butch has gone back to his original ring name of Pete Dunne and has formed the New Catch Republic tag team with Tyler Bate, while Holland is currently in “WWE NXT” working a storyline that involves his kayfabe retirement. Sheamus has shared cryptic messages on X (formerly Twitter) regarding the status of his contract, which is reportedly set to expire this year, but if this package is any indication, he may have come to terms on a new deal with WWE.

Sheamus Reportedly Suffering From A Really Bad Injury

Sheamus hasn’t competed in a WWE ring since he was defeated by Edge in what could be the “Rated-R Superstar’s” final-ever match for the company. While his absence hasn’t been addressed by the company, Dave Meltzer has revealed on the latest “Wrestling Observer Radio” that Sheamus is currently out of action due to a really bad shoulder injury.

While there are no details as to when the “Celtic Warrior” sustained the issue or how long he is going to be on the shelf for, this is the reason he hasn’t been shown on television, nor has he been part of WWE live events throughout the past month. Neither Sheamus nor WWE has made an official comment on the situation, and it remains to be seen what the long-term plan is.

Sheamus’ future has been a big talking point as of late anyway due to the fact his contract with the company is set to expire in 2024, but that is something that could end up being extended now if he’s out for a while as WWE could tag that time on.

This is not the first injury that the Irishman has sustained throughout his tenure with WWE, which began back in 2006. While he’s had several smaller issues over the years he did deal with a major neck injury back in 2019 which took him out of action for nine months and sparked retirement rumors, but it remains to be seen if his current problem will be as severe.

WWE has been continuing to use his fellow Brawling Brutes as a tag team as Butch and Ridge Holland have been getting opportunities to shine together as a duo, which could open the door for Sheamus to rejoin the group when he is able to return.

Sheamus Reveals Nose Surgery This Morning

Sheamus underwent nose surgery this morning.

The Celtic Warrior took to Twitter and posted a pre-surgery photo this morning, and then posted a follow-up photo, indicating that the operation was a success.

“..once more unto the breach dear friends.. 2x wwe [nose emoji] job champion,” he wrote.

The second photo shows Sheamus giving a thumbs up.

Sheamus has dealt with a busted nose since taking a stiff shot from Humberto Carrillo on May 31, and underwent surgery a few days later. He said he then re-aggravated the injury during a match with Jeff Hardy in September. Sheamus last wrestled on this week’s RAW, losing the No DQ match to WWE United States Champion Damian Priest.

There’s no word on if Sheamus will miss any ring time due to this surgery, but it’s believed that the feud with Priest ended this past Monday.

Sheamus Possibly Returning To WWE Soon

Sheamus has been cleared to return to WWE action and is currently waiting for the company to bring him back, according to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.

It was noted that WWE will bring him back to the storylines once they have something for him creatively.

The Celtic Warrior has been out of action since the post-WrestleMania 35 edition of SmackDown after reportedly suffering a concussion. He also has spinal stenosis. Sheamus started making appearances for WWE again back in July, but there’s been no word yet on a ring return. It’s possible he will be used in the upcoming WWE Draft.

Sheamus appeared on The Edge & Christian podcast several weeks ago and claimed that he remains in the dark about his return, but he continues to work out and stay in shape while he waits for that call.

“I don’t really know what the crack is. I’m still waiting,” Sheamus said, while discussing his YouTube show. “I’m just, again, enjoying my time. Like, it’s very hard for me to sit at home all the time, but that’s why the channel has been a saving grace as well. It’s kind of my passion away from the ring and I’ve really enjoyed doing all these workouts and, again, everybody has been so generous, WWE Superstars, men and women, have also been so generous with their time on the channel. But I don’t really know what the story is as of right now. I’m still kind of in the dark about it, but I’m just training away like I’m trying to stay in the best shape I possibly can. A) because the channel is there and I’m working out all the time, but also because it is very important just to stay ready just no matter what happens.”

Sheamus Reportedly Out With A Concussion, Update On Daniel Bryan’s Status After WrestleMania Loss

Sheamus is currently dealing with a concussion, according to the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter. It’s believed to have happened during The New Day vs. Sheamus, Cesaro, and Drew McIntyre on the post-WrestleMania 35 SmackDown Live last week. He also wrestled on RAW the night before, teaming with Cesaro for a loss to Kofi and WWE Universal Champion Seth Rollins.

If that’s the case, both he and Big E were injured during the same match. For Big E, he suffered a torn meniscus that required surgery.

Sheamus did not appear on either of this week’s Superstar Shake-Up editions of RAW and SmackDown. The concussion would explain his absence from the SmackDown main event where Cesaro teamed up with Rusev and Shinsuke Nakamura in a losing effort against Kofi Kingston, Xavier Woods, and Kevin Owens.

Sheamus did tweet the following earlier today, his weekly fitness check in for the campaign he’s currently doing:

There’s no official update on Daniel Bryan’s status but word is that he is dealing with an injury coming out of the WrestleMania 35 loss to WWE Champion Kofi Kingston and the nature of his situation is being closely guarded, according to PWInsider. Bryan was not at RAW or SmackDown this week, and reportedly returned home last week after WrestleMania. He was not at SmackDown in Brooklyn last week and it was reported that he was to be examined by doctors, but there’s no news on what they found.

According to the North American Wrestling Rankings blog. which has been keeping TV stats since November 2006, Sheamus was the first wrestler to win 200 TV singles matches with his victory over Roman Reigns on the July 6, 2015 episode of RAW.

Sheamus was the 4th wrestler to win 100 singles matches back on August 3, 2012. As of July 8, 2015 – Randy Orton has 197 wins and John Cena has 188.

Sheamus Returns

Sheamus made his return last night on RAW. He appeared to be coming out to save Daniel Bryan and Dolph Ziggler from a beat down by Bad News Barrett but instead he attacked Bryan and Ziggler himself. Sheamus was sporting a new look with a Mohawk and braided beard. At one point the fans chanted “you look stupid.” All Sheamus had to say was “I’m back.”

WWE announced that Sheamus will team with Bad News Barrett to take on Daniel Bryan and Dolph Ziggler this Thursday on SmackDown.
