Title Unification Matches Announced For NXT Worlds Collide

WWE announced last Thursday that “NXT UK” will be put on hiatus before it relaunches as the rebranded “NXT Europe” in 2023.

WWE has officially announced title unification matches for its NXT Worlds Collide event on September 4.

“NXT” Champion Bron Breakker issued the challenge to “NXT UK” Champion Tyler Bate at the top of Tuesday night’s “NXT 2.0.”

Minutes after announcing “NXT” Champion Bron Breakker will face “NXT UK” Champion Tyler Bate in a title unification match, WWE has revealed another match at the upcoming Worlds Collide event to unify two more titles.

“NXT” Women’s Champion Mandy Rose will face “NXT UK” Women’s Champion Meiko Satomura and Blair Davenport in a Women’s Championship Unification Triple Threat Match on September 4.

The match was made official on Tuesday night’s episode of “NXT 2.0.” Satomura made an appearance during an in-ring segment between Rose and Davenport.

WWE Announces Upcoming NXT UK Rebrand And Hiatus

After a handful of “NXT UK” stars appeared on “NXT 2.0” this week, it has now been revealed that the UK-based brand will be undergoing a revamp, slated to take place in 2023.

WWE has confirmed that “NXT UK” will become “NXT Europe” in 2023. It will continue expanding the current brand that has been active full-time since June 2018, although its beginnings can be traced back to 2016 with the first-ever United Kingdom Championship tournament which took place in Blackpool, England. “Following the success of our live events and talent identification efforts throughout all of Europe, we believe this is the perfect time to expand NXT beyond the UK,” Shawn Michaels, WWE Vice President of Talent Development Creative said. It should be noted, this appears to be the first time Michaels’ new title with the company has been confirmed.

As it stands, “NXT UK” currently airs weekly on Peacock and WWE Network, with its most recent shows being recorded at the BT Sport Studios in London, England. Initially, shows were being recorded on the road around the United Kingdom, but the brand ultimately found a new home, in part due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Just last week, it was revealed that an upcoming television taping was canceled due to the BT Sports Studios being unavailable, which led many to speculate that the future of the brand was in doubt, but that hasn’t turned out to be the case.

Furthermore, in addition to the “NXT Europe” announcement, WWE revealed that a special premium live event, Worlds Collide, will take place on Sunday, September 4 that will feature stars from “NXT 2.0” and “NXT UK.” While no location has been provided in the official press release, it should be noted that Clash at the Castle, WWE’s next major premium live event, will be taking place at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff, Wales, the previous night. AEW All Out will take place the evening of Sunday, September 4.

WWE NXT UK Special Event Announced For WrestleMania 37 Week, Main Event Revealed

The next WWE NXT UK special event has been announced for WrestleMania 37 Week.

It was announced during today’s NXT UK episode that “NXT UK: Prelude” will air on Thursday, April 8 at 3pm ET on the WWE Network.

This special will air in the usual weekly NXT UK timeslot on the WWE Network. Thursday, April 8 is also the same date that Night 2 of NXT “Takeover: Stand and Deliver” will air, also on the WWE Network.

Prelude will be headlined by Rampage Brown vs. NXT UK Champion WALTER with the title on the line. Today’s NXT UK episode saw WALTER cut a promo on how he was looking for a new challenger. Brown interrupted and they came to blows. The match was later confirmed for Prelude.

Prelude will also feature Tyler Bate vs. Noam Dar under Heritage Cup Rules. The winner of that match will become the new #1 contender to NXT UK Heritage Cup Champion A-Kid.

This will be the fourth NXT UK special event to take place. The brand previously held a “Takeover: Blackpool” event on January 12, 2019, a “Takeover: Cardiff” event on August 31, 2019, and a “Takeover: Blackpool II” event on January 12, 2020. “Takeover: Dublin” was scheduled for April 26, 2020 but it was nixed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. At one point it was re-scheduled for June 20 of this year, but there’s no word yet on if it’s still in the plans.

William Regal’s Son Bailey Matthews Debuts On NXT UK

Bailey Matthews, the son of NXT General Manager William Regal, has made his in-ring WWE debut … and he’s a chip off the old block!

It all went down on the latest edition of NXT UK where Matthews went toe-to-toe with former NXT UK Champion Tyler Bate.

Matthews lost the match, but looked impressive and suits the UK style perfectly — as you’d expect!

Bailey’s wrestling journey began in 2018 when his old man sent him to the mother land to train. He performed on a few UK indie shows, and eventually joined New Japan Pro Wrestling as a Young Lion. He officially signed with WWE last month.

“Ready to roar onto the scene and represent his hometown of Blackpool, England, Bailey Matthews is set to bring a unique style to NXT UK inspired by the likes of Johnny Saint, Billy Robinson and NXT General Manager William Regal,” WWE said when they announced Bailey’s singing.

Legendary Japanese Wrestler Meiko Satomura Signs With WWE (NXT UK)

Joshi veteran Meiko Satomura is officially a WWE employee and will report to the company’s satellite brand in the United Kingdom.

Satomura’s signing was first reported by Yahoo Sports, who claimed the 41-year-old would be joining the company as a “player-coach.”

Her imminent arrival was later confirmed on this week’s edition of NXT UK via a video package.

Satamora began her career at just 14 years old and has competed for Gaea Japan, Sendai Girls’ Pro Wrestling (which she founded), Chikara and even WCW.

According to Tokyo Sports, Satomura is considered Japan’s final boss — essentially the wrestler all younger opponents hope to defeat. She’s known for her nasty kicks and Death Valley Bomb finish.

As you might recall, Satomura competed in the 2018 Mae Young Classic.

More NXT UK Releases And Suspension, Update On The Future Of The Brand

It looks like the WWE NXT UK brand will be returning with new content soon.

There has been a lot of speculation on the future of the brand as of late. They haven’t filmed new content in months due to the coronavirus pandemic, and several talents were recently hit with accusations in the “#SpeakingOut” movement. It was reported on Monday that a mandatory conference call was planned for today with staff and talent told to participate.

That conference call happened this afternoon and PWInsider reports that it was more or less a chance for WWE officials to touch base with the roster. It was also said that officials told the talents to be ready to get back to work when the time was right. Several NXT UK talents have taken to social media this afternoon and indicated that they would be working TV tapings soon.

F4Wonline.cm adds that Triple H addressed talents during the call and told them explicitly what the protocol is regarding sexual abuse allegations. Triple H said there would be zero tolerance on any charges, provided there was irrefutable evidence against them. It was taken as more of a warning going forward than anything else. Their report also noted that there was no talk of any other changes with the brand.

There has been talk of taping new material for NXT UK soon, but nothing is official as far as dates go, according to PWInsider. NXT UK episodes on the WWE Network have been special editions for a few months now, featuring older matches or compilations, but last week’s “Superstar Picks” episode featured the return of talent vignettes and promos for feuds.

While WWE has not announced new NXT UK dates as of this writing, it’s worth noting that the 3Arena in Dublin, Ireland still has tickets up for sale for the NXT UK “Takeover: Dublin” event. That show was originally scheduled for Sunday, April 26 but was re-scheduled to Sunday, October 25 due to COVID-19.

In other NXT UK news, PWInsider reports that referee Joel Allen was released over the weekend. Referee Chris Roberts was also released, according to F4Wonline.com, and Joe Coffey was suspended. The releases and the suspension follow the recent departures of Ligero, Jack Gallagher and Travis Banks. All faced allegations from the “#SpeakingOut” movement.

It’s interesting to note that NXT UK Women’s Champion Kay Lee Ray took to Twitter this afternoon and posted a graphic of the other WWE women’s champions – WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions Sasha Banks & Bayley, who is also the SmackDown Women’s Champion, RAW Women’s Champion Asuka, and NXT Women’s Champion Io Shirai.

She wrote, “Doesn’t matter if you like it or not but fact is, I am your longest reigning women’s champion across all @WWE brands right now. I AM YOUR FOREVER CHAMPION!!! Fight me….”

Bayley responded and wrote, “Don’t mind if I do.”

This exchange has fans hoping for a potential match between Bayley and Ray.

The NXT UK brand currently has the following champions – Ray, NXT UK Champion WALTER, and NXT UK Tag Team Champions Wolfgang and Mark Coffey of Gallus.
