Jon Moxley Wins The IWGP US Title At NJPW’s Best Of The Super Juniors Finals, Full Results

In his first championship match since leaving WWE, Jon Moxley has won gold. He defeated Juice Robinson at the Best of the Super Juniors Finals to win the IWGP United States Championship.

This was Juice’s fourth defense of the title after beating Cody Rhodes for it at Wrestle Kingdom 13. After a hard-hitting affair, Moxley pinned Robinson following the debut of his new finisher, the Death Rider. It is a high angle double arm DDT, almost similar to Dirty Deeds.

Jon Moxley Heading To NJPW Event In June, Talks “Paradigm Shift” In Wrestling, Upcoming Appearances For Northeast Wrestling

After appearing at AEW “Double or Nothing”, Jon Moxley announced that he will be heading to New Japan Pro Wrestling.

Via a tweet, Moxley showed a vignette that has been making the rounds for weeks of a man with a knife. The video has ended with “Time’s Up” and a picture of IWGP United States Champion Juice Robinson. Moxley is then revealed to be the mysterious figure in the bar. The expected date of his arrival is June 5, 2019, the day of the finals of the Best of the Super Juniors.

After Double of Nothing, it was announced by Tony Khan that Moxley signed a multi-year deal with AEW. Part of the deal included an opportunity to do bookings outside of the company when the schedule is light. AEW’s TNT deal doesn’t start for another few months.

Moxley is the second major AEW wrestler to be competing for NJPW in the next few months. Chris Jericho, who defeated Kenny Omega this past weekend to become a contender for the AEW World Championship, is set to face Kazuchika Okada for the IWGP Heavyweight Championship on June 9.

On August 16 in Poughkeepsie, New York, Moxley will face Pentagon Jr. for Northeast Wrestling at the Mid Hudson Civic Center.

In a tweet through All Elite Wrestling, Moxley also cut a promo about wanting to cause a paradigm shift in pro wrestling.

“One day, they will all come to my funeral just to make sure I stay dead, but today is not that day,” Moxley said. “I’m alive! My heart is still beating and I’m breathing fresh air for the first time in a long time. My name is Jon Moxley and I am on a mission to reclaim my soul. And I’m not the only who thinks, ‘You know it’s about time this industry got a face lift.’ So make no mistake about it, this is an official declaration of war against anybody who wants to get in my way or anybody who stands in AEW’s way. We’re on a mission to knock the pillars of this industry on their ass. We ain’t reading history books anymore, we’re writing them. This is what you call a paradigm shift.”

UPDATE: Jon Moxley Vs. Juice Robinson For IWGP U.S. Title Official For June 5th

New Japan Pro Wrestling has made Jon Moxley Vs. Juice Robinson official for the Best of the Super Juniors final card on June 5th. According to their website, it will indeed be for the IWGP United States Championship.

In the video Below, Juice accepts Moxley’s challenge, while also talking about the brief history they have. Juice brings up the fact that they both started on the same day in Florida Championship Wrestling while with WWE. He looked up to Moxley and the latter even has a win over Juice while with WWE. Juice promised to flip the script; he plans to beat Moxley and retain his United States Championship.

Silver King Passes Away At 51 Years Old After Collapsing During Match, WWE Issues Statement

Lucha legend Silver King passed away at age 51 on Saturday.

Before he passed, Silver King was competing against Juventud Guerrera at the Roundhouse Theatre in North London for the promotion Lucha Libre World. During the match, Silver King collapsed. After not getting up off the mat for a long time and having a defibrillator used on him, an ambulance was called and he was taken to the hospital. According to PWInsider, it was believed that he had suffered a heart attack while in the ring.

Silver King whose real name is Cesar Cuauhtemoc Gonzalez Barron, debuted in 1985 and was in many promotions like AAA, IWGR, and CMLL. From 1997 to 2000, he was in WCW and was a member of the Latino World Order. King also wrestled in NJPW as the Black Tiger character, which was adopted before by both Mark Rocco and Eddie Guerrero.

Silver King was in the film Nacho Libre as the villain Ramses.

WWE issued a statement on his passing:

WWE is saddened to learn that Lucha Libre legend and former WCW star Silver King has passed away at age 51.

A champion luchador in his native Mexico, Silver King, real name César Cuauhtémoc González Barrón, entertained audiences across the globe, and was a standout in WCW’s Cruiserweight division in the late ’90s. Outside the ring, he appeared under a mask as the villainous Ramses in the popular 2006 comedy “Nacho Libre.”

WWE extends its deepest condolences to Silver King’s family, friends and fans.

The Briscoes talk about the old Crockett Cup tournament and how the Rock ‘n’ Roll Express couldn’t make it past the first round. The Briscoes fully expect history to repeat itself. The Briscoes says they are going to win the tournament and put Rock ‘n’ Roll Express out to pasture.

Jim Cornette introduces The Rock ‘n’ Roll Express, before the match gets started he asks them if they know what they’ve gotten themselves into tonight against The Briscoes. They will feed off the fans support and winning the Crockett Cup is something they want to check off their bucket list. Cornette says it’s good to see The Briscoes, “Good to see you too, Jim, now hand me that microphone!” Cornette hands it over and bounces. They let their opponents decide if they want to head to the back and keep their body in check, or fight and get retired. Morton kicks Jay below the belt before the bell rings.

Members of the Crockett Family, ROH COO Joe Koff, and NWA President Billy Corgan out with the Crockett Cup and NWA World Tag Team Titles. Caprice Coleman talks with Nikita Koloff who says it’s great to be back and he thanks the Crockett Family for giving him his opportunity. Coleman asks about Koloff losing his accent, and he says after 35 years his English is bound to get better. Magnum TA heads out, Koloff welcomes him. Magnum talks about when he was able to be involved in the very first Crockett Cup and how great the experience was. The two sit ringside for the upcoming finals match.

Post-match, Scurll and Aldis hug and raise each other’s hands up. Scurll gets on the mic and asks Aldis not to leave just yet. Scurll says 15 years ago he started his dream to be a wrestler and said Aldis was the won who took him under his wing and helped him become the man he is today. He says after the match they just had shows how far they both have come. He was hoping at this point he would be double champion, but the better man won. He says Aldis is the champ and nobody deserves it more than him. Aldis says Scurll is the biggest self-made star in wrestling. He then puts over the NWA’s resurgence and thanks the fans.

Kota Ibushi Says He’s Staying With NJPW “Until The Day I Die” With New Contract

Back in February, Kota Ibushi announced he had signed a new deal with New Japan Pro Wrestling, keeping him with the promotion until 2021. The current IWGP Intercontinental Champion had previously worked more as a freelance wrestler in recent years until that deal.

In a press conference, Ibushi announced he had a new contract with NJPW and would stay “until the day I die.” Obviously, the two sides decided it would be best to keep him for a longer period of time than originally announced.

“To me, this is the last place I’ll be,” Ibushi said. “Until the day I die. Until the end. That’s my contract period. ”

Aside from his current title reign, Ibushi is also a three-time IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Champion, one-time NEVER Openweight Champion, and one-time IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Tag Team Champion.

In a February interview with ShuPro, Ibushi commented on why he decided to chose NJPW over AEW.

“The second I went, that would be the end of my wrestling career, I thought,” Ibushi began. “What I realized [talking to AEW] was I really don’t care about money. … AEW said they just want me in their ring in some form. The ideal for them was for me to move to America and be there full-time. I turned them down just after Wrestle Kingdom. … If I went it would be the end of my career. There wouldn’t be anywhere else to go after that. No step up, nothing left to do. That would be the last step to make, and after that things would just go down. Great money, but I want to keep developing.”

Hiroshi Tanahashi Discharged From Hospital Following Elbow Surgery

NJPW wrestler Hiroshi Tanahashi has been discharged from the hospital after undergoing surgery.

New Japan Pro Wrestling confirmed the former IWGP Heavyweight Champion’s release from the hospital on Twitter late last night.

“Tanahashi has been discharged from hospital after receiving treatment on his left elbow. Best wishes for a quick return to action,” they wrote alongside a quote-tweet from the man himself.

“I was hospitalized for a week with left elbow surgery,” said Tanahashi. “Today, I was discharged safely. I will do my best to return!”

Tanahashi last wrestled at the G1 Supercard in Madison Square Garden on April 6, where he lost to Zack Sabre Jr. No word on how long he’ll be out of action.

NWA Women’s Championship Vacated, New Champion To Be Decided At Crockett Cup

NWA announced earlier today the Women’s Championship has been vacated by Jazz and a new champion will be decided at this weekend’s Crockett Cup event in Concord, North Carolina. Allysin Kay (fka Impact Wrestling’s Sienna) was originally scheduled to face Jazz, but will now go against an opponent to be named later this week for the vacant title.

Jazz won the championship back in September of 2016, holding it for 946 days, which is the third longest behind Debbie Combs and The Fabulous Moolah.

Below is the updated card this Saturday’s Crockett Cup.
