The new All Elite Wrestling promotion officially launched yesterday with their Double Or Nothing rally at TIAA Bank Field in Jacksonville, Florida.

The biggest news coming out of the rally was the signing of future WWE Hall of Famer Chris Jericho, who closed the rally and announced that he is all in with AEW. Jericho said he’s with AEW because he believes in doing something new and something different, not for the money because he’s already got the money.

AEW also announced that their Double Or Nothing event will take place on Saturday, May 25 in Las Vegas at the MGM Grand Garden Arena. They announced a second AEW event for Jacksonville to be held at a later date but details were not released. There were also no details on a possible TV deal or any kind of online distribution but more announcements will be made in the future.

AEW Chief Brand Officer Brandi Rhodes spoke at the rally and confirmed the AEW women’s division, noting that they want this to be a strong division with the strongest women’s wrestlers in the world. Brandi said AEW cares about their female wrestlers and will be paying them equally with the male competitors. She said Cody agrees with her that there will be no sliding scale when it comes to pay. Regarding her role as CBO, Brandi said it will come with lots of hard work and long nights, but she is 100% committed to helping bring AEW to the level it’s supposed to be at, which she guaranteed.

Regarding the Khan family, several of the speakers gave thanks to Tony Khan and his father, Shad Khan. We noted that the Khans confirmed their roles with the company. Matt Jackson noted during the rally that the Khan family approached them after All In last year and asked them if they really wanted to change the world, then offered to really help make that happen.

It looks like AEW will be working with other promotions as well. Matt said they have come to an agreement with OWE (Oriental Wrestling Entertainment) in China, and that they will bring OWE into AEW to give them a major spotlight. Matt promised fans will love OWE if they’re not already familiar with them, praising the promotion for the “gifted” in-ring work they bring. It was also interesting that PAC (Neville) carried his Dragon Gate Open the Dream Gate Title when he came out for a confrontation with “Hangman” Page.

Cody Rhodes announced on Twitter before the really that former WWE Tag Team Champion Billy Gunn is the first agent for the promotion. He is the only producer announced as of this writing. Coming out of the rally, below is the confirmed roster for the promotion:

* Cody Rhodes (Executive Vice President)
* Matt Jackson of The Young Bucks (Executive Vice President)
* Nick Jackson of The Young Bucks (Executive Vice President)
* Brandi Rhodes (Chief Brand Officer)
* Billy Gunn (Agent)
* Chris Jericho
* PAC fka Neville
* “Hangman” Adam Page
* Britt Baker
* Joey Janela with Penelope Ford
* MJF
* Christopher Daniels of SoCal Uncensored
* Frankie Kazarian of SoCal Uncensored
* Scorpio Sky of SoCal Uncensored

The rally was trending on Twitter, before it even began. Hosts Conrad Thompson and Alex Marvez noted that more than 100,000 fans were watching the rally across the various platforms. I believe the YouTube stream peaked at around 60,000 live viewers. The rally featured pyro on the stage they used, and a larger fireworks display from inside the stadium, which is the home of the NFL’s Jacksonville Jaguars. The Jaguars mascot, Jaxson de Ville, and their cheerleaders were also featured.

Below is the video of Cody with Gunn, along with various shots from the press conference and the full stream video.

Neville Makes Surprise Return To Wrestling (Video & Photos)

After roughly a year away from the ring, Neville — now working under his old ring name PAC — returned to wrestling Tuesday at a Dragon Gate show inside of Tokyo’s Korakuen Hall.

Neville, teaming with Eita Kobayashi, picked up the win in a tag match over Shingo Takagi and BxB Hulk with his signature “Red Arrow” finisher.  Takagi is working his final matches with Dragon Gate.

According to multiple reports, the 32-year-old came out with the heel faction R.E.D. and cut a post-match promo on fans saying he’d destroy all their favorite stars.

It was reported in last week’s issue of The Wrestling Observer Newsletter that Neville has not been responding to promoters as best as they can tell, and has essentially gone “off the grid.” Neville was reportedly previously in talks with some promotions, however said that he wasn’t ready to start yet due to legal issues.

Neville had been unhappy with WWE creative and tried to get his release when he quit the company back in October of 2017. WWE officials did not grant the release when he quit because they didn’t want to set a precedent where talents under contract could walk out and go to New Japan Pro Wrestling, which is where it was expected Neville would end up. Neville’s contract was then frozen for ten months before his release was granted.

Neville is scheduled to return to Dragon Gate for a match on November 6th.

Neville Has Reportedly Gone “Off The Grid” And Is Not Responding To Promoters

While Neville is reportedly free to wrestle anywhere since receiving his WWE release in August, Dave Meltzer reported in the latest issue of The Wrestling Observer Newsletter that Neville has not been responding to promoters as best as they can tell, and has esentially gone “off the grid.”

PWInsider had reported that Neville was spotted in Pittsburgh around the time of his release in August. WWE sends their talent to Pittsburgh for medical testing, so the timing for that is interesting to say the least.

Neville was reportedly previously in talks with some promotions, however said that he wasn’t ready to start yet due to legal issues. Will Ospreay had recently called out the former WWE Cruiserweight Champion on Twitter.

Backstage News On Why It Took WWE Almost One Year To Grant Neville’s Release

Image result for Neville wwe

Regarding Neville officially being released from WWE this past week, The Wrestling Observer Newsletter notes that he is free to go anywhere he wants because there is no non-compete clause in effect.

Neville, who had been unhappy with WWE creative, tried getting his release when he quit the company back in October 2017. WWE officials did not grant the release when he quit because they didn’t want to set a precedent where talents under contract could walk out and go to New Japan Pro Wrestling, which is where it was expected Neville would end up. Neville’s contract was then frozen for almost one year before being released last week.

There’s obvious speculation on Neville appearing at All In this weekend but that has not been confirmed.

Neville No Longer Under WWE Contract

Image result for Neville wwe

Neville is no longer under contract with WWE, according to Pro Wrestling Sheet.

According to Dave Meltzer, Neville is now free to wrestle wherever he pleases.

Neville first began with WWE in 2012 working under the NXT brand where he would eventually become NXT Champion. Neville had left WWE in mid-October, reportedly over frustration with his status in the company. He was scheduled to lose to then-WWE Cruiserweight Champion Enzo Amore on the October 9, 2017 episode of WWE Monday Night RAW, and left the company after reportedly learning of the scheduled finish. The match resulted in Enzo losing the championship to Kalisto.

Since quitting the company, Neville has been reportedly wanting his release from WWE. He was under WWE contract and his deal was frozen for the time he wasn’t working, which meant that he couldn’t wrestle anywhere else in the world. He moved back to the U.K. last March and has since kept a low profile.

Backstage Update On Neville’s WWE Status

Neville’s wife, Natalie Satterley, posted several photos on Instagram in March suggesting that they were leaving Florida and returning to England. It was noted by Dave Meltzer in the latest issue of The Wrestling Observer Newsletter that Neville has indeed moved back to the U.K., which almost surely means that he is not returning to WWE.

Since quitting the company, Neville had been wanting his release from the company. He is still under WWE contract and his deal is frozen for the time that he is not working, which means that he can’t wrestle anywhere else in the world. The Observer noted that it’s not known if he is being paid while his contract is frozen, although Meltzer presumed that he isn’t. It’s the same situation that led to Daniel Bryan and Rey Mysterio remaining with the company well after their original contracts had expired. Bryan’s contract was unfrozen when he did commentary for the Cruiserweight Classic and became SmackDown General Manager.

Backstage News On Neville Possibly Returning To WWE

Image result for neville wwe

Neville is reportedly once again talking with WWE about a return to the company, according to Dave Meltzer in the latest issue of The Wrestling Observer Newsletter. It was noted that if it does happen, the target for a return would be sometime in April.

Neville left the company in mid-October, reportedly over frustration with his status. He was scheduled to lose to then-WWE Cruiserweight Champion Enzo Amore on the October 9, 2017 episode of WWE Monday Night RAW, and left the company after reportedly learning of the scheduled finish. The match resulted in Enzo losing the championship to Kalisto.

Neville has been silent since his departure with his last social media post, seen below, coming in late September ripping WWE Shop over his new shirt. He has remained on their roster section on WWE.com.

Since quitting in October, Neville had been wanting his release from the company. He is still under WWE contract and his deal is apparently frozen for the time that he is not working. It’s the same situation that led to Daniel Bryan and Rey Mysterio remaining with the company well after their original contracts had expired.

Backstage Updates On Why Neville Is Unhappy With WWE, His Wrestling Future

Related image

We’ve noted how Neville’s WWE status is up in the air after he reportedly walked out of RAW in Indianapolis earlier this month after finding out he was scheduled to lose a non-title match to then-WWE Cruiserweight Champion Enzo Amore that night. Kalisto ended up winning the title from Enzo that night but sources report that the plan has been to get the title back on Enzo, possibly at this Sunday’s WWE TLC pay-per-view. There were conflicting reports on if Neville really walked out of RAW but multiple sources confirmed that he was not happy with the company and that he had pushed for his release.

It was also reported that Neville’s unhappiness goes back a few months as he was upset over his WrestleMania 33 Kickoff pre-show win over Austin Aries being left off the WrestleMania DVD along with the other pre-show matches. This caused him to miss out on royalties from what is usually the best-selling WWE DVD of the year. It was also noted that The King of The Cruiserweights was upset over other issues. While Neville remains under contract with WWE, it was reported that he was not being factored into any creative plans and he was not being booked for any upcoming events.

In an update, Sports Illustrated reports that Neville was frustrated by the direction of his character, the lack of pay-offs and the rough WWE life on the road. Neville has reportedly been “miserable in WWE” since January of this year and the walkout came nine months later than expected by many people close to the situation.

It appears Neville’s decision may be influenced in-part by Austin Aries, who left the company on amicable terms earlier this year. The SI report notes that Neville learned Aries would be making more in the next six weeks on the indies than Neville would in the same timeframe while with WWE. We noted before that Neville had pushed for his WWE release with the idea of working the indies and making a name for himself there.

Regarding his match being left off the WrestleMania 33 DVD, not only was Neville upset about missing out on the pay but he was said to be “infuriated” that the company “would disregard his service and value” after being as dedicated as he was. Neville reportedly felt that he was viewed as “nothing more than a very talented ‘get-over guy’ used to enhance” other Superstars.

No word yet on if WWE will grant Neville his release but SI reports that he is hoping or success in Ring of Honor or New Japan Pro Wrestling. WWE could grant the release or make Neville wait until his deal expires, or possibly explore a breach of contract, but SI adds that the walkout did upset Vince McMahon.

Neville WWE Status And RAW Rumor Updates

Image result for Neville WWE

We’ve noted how multiple sources reported that Neville walked out of Monday’s RAW in Indianapolis after finding out that he would be losing to WWE Cruiserweight Champion Enzo Amore in the non-title main event of the show that night. The match ended up having Kalistodefeat Enzo to become the new champion but The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that the plan is to put the title back on Enzo, possibly at the October 22nd TLC pay-per-view when he gets his rematch. It was also reported that Neville’s status with the company was up in the air but one source close to the situation believed that he was finished.

In an update, PWInsider reports that their sources say Neville never walked out of RAW as he was never backstage at the show, during any time on Monday. They also noted that Neville was originally scheduled to work Enzo on weekend WWE live events but he was replaced by Mustafa Ali.

According to PWI’s report, the original plan of Neville vs. Enzo was changed late in the day when it became known that Neville would not be at the show. They also note that there was talk of doing the non-title match after it was mentioned that Neville couldn’t receive a title shot due to the non-contact stipulation from the week before. Apparently they went with putting the title on Kalisto as a way to tie him to the legacy of WWE Hall of Famer Eddie Guerrero as it was Eddie’s birthday. Kalisto did make a tweet dedicating the win to Eddie and Rey Mysterio, plus it was mentioned on RAW and in backstage Fallout video. Kalisto even received a congratulatory tweet back from Rey, mentioning Eddie.

Other sources report that Neville has pushed for a release from the company with the idea of going to the indies and making a name for himself outside of WWE, similar what Drew McIntyre did before he returned to WWE NXT. Neville has reportedly been unhappy with several factors, including being left off the WrestleMania 33 DVD and receiving no royalties from what is usually the best-selling WWE DVD of the year. Neville retained the WWE Cruiserweight Title over Austin Aries on the WrestleMania 33 Kickoff pre-show but all three pre-show matches were left off the version of the DVD released in the United States.

PWI adds that Neville is still under contract to the company and has not been released. However, WWE officials are not factoring The King of The Cruiserweights into any cruiserweight division plans for the time being but it is possible that the two sides come to terms and he returns to action. Neville is also not being booked for any upcoming live events or TV events. We will keep you updated on his status.

Backstage Update On Neville’s WWE Status, Possible Cruiserweight Title Plans

Regarding Neville’s WWE status, sources have confirmed that he walked out of Monday’s RAW in Indianapolis before the show hit the air. The plan was for Neville to lose to WWE Cruiserweight Champion Enzo Amore in the non-title Lumberjack main event. The match ended up having Enzo drop the title to Kalisto.

The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that Neville walked out when he learned of the loss he was to take. This was a last minute decision made by Vince McMahon, reportedly because no one could come up with a better idea at the last minute, they put the title on Kalisto instead of having Enzo defeat another cruiserweight. The Observer adds that the current plan is to get the title back on Enzo. The title change could come at the October 22nd TLC pay-per-view when Enzo receives his rematch.

Neville’s status with the company is still up in the air but it’s believed that he’s gone. One source close to the situation insists that he’s 100% gone. As noted yesterday, WWE is officially denying that he quit and the official word is that he’s still with the company. His profile remains on the WWE website as of this writing.
