WWE Announces Venue Change For Money In The Bank

WWE Money in the Bank will not be emanating from the Las Vegas Raiders’ Allegiant Stadium after all. Fans who bought tickets for the July 2 event received emails today notifying them that Money in the Bank will now be taking place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena on the same scheduled day. Several fans have taken to social media to post the updated poster revealing the change.

It should be noted that the poster also reveals that fans who purchased tickets for Money in the Bank at Allegiant Stadium will now have the first crack to purchase tickets for the event in the MGM Grand Garden Arena before anyone else. The poster also notes that anyone who purchased tickets via Ticketmaster will receive an automatic refund.

As of this writing, no reason has been given for why WWE is changing venues for Money in the Bank. The most recent update regarding ticket sales for the event came a month ago from WrestleTix, who estimated that WWE had sold 16,826 tickets for Money in the Bank, with a total capacity set up to be over 25,000.

This would seem to indicate WWE was planning on scaling down capacity compared to when the promotion ran SummerSlam at Allegiant Stadium last August, where they drew over 51,000 fans for their first event in the stadium. Money in the Bank was announced for Allegiant Stadium only a day after SummerSlam took place.

It is unclear what capacity WWE will be aiming for at the MGM Grand Garden Arena. The building can fit close to 17,000 fans, although it has generally been set up for smaller capacities for wrestling shows. The most high-profile wrestling show to take place at the building in recent memory was “AEW Double or Nothing 2019” the first show in AEW history. The show sold out in four minutes with its aimed capacity of 11,000 fans.

Backstage News On WWE Advertising WrestleMania Main Event For MITB Winner

Vince McMahon himself put in the line about the winner of WWE’s Money In The Bank getting a title shot at WWE WrestleMania, according to Dave Meltzer on the latest edition of Wrestling Observer Radio, which was first reported by Ringside News.

The new advertisement for the upcoming WWE premium live event was first aired at WWE’s WrestleMania Backlash. It features Cody Rhodes talking to the camera and saying a line that he said has caused a lot of confusion.

“One lucky male and female Superstar will win the chance to main event WrestleMania,” Rhodes claims in the promo.

The decision to include that verbiage was done directly by Vince McMahon.

Despite the confusion based on how WWE scripted this promo, and the fact they keep airing it, plans are currently not set to change regarding the briefcase from prior years. The creative team has reportedly been told that things will be exactly the same. While things can change once again between now and then, it is expected that the briefcase will carry the same qualities as ever.

Of course, traditionally the winner of the Money in the Bank briefcase gets an entire year to cash it in. This can be done at any time, or any place, from live events to episodes of RAW and SmackDown, including all the major premium live events in between. It has never been restricted to just one night, as that takes away the mystery element.

This does include WWE WrestleMania itself, should the winner keep hold of the briefcase until that point. Seth Rollins is currently the only wrestler in history to actually cash in at The Grandest Stage Of Them All itself. He did that at WWE WrestleMania 31, interjecting himself into Brock Lesnar’s match with Roman Reigns to leave as champion.

This year’s WWE Money In The Bank show takes place on July 2 event at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. So far, not a single match has been announced for the premium live event, as the company must first go through WWE’s Hell In A Cell.

WWE’s Confusing Money In The Bank Ads Have Left Employees Just As Baffled As Fans

No one knows whether this year’s Money in the Bank winners will get title shots or WrestleMania main event spots.

Even though Hell in a Cell is next up on WWE’s Premium Live Event calendar, most people already have an eye on what’s next. That’s because Money in the Bank on July 2 will spark a run of three stradium shows in two months. SummerSlam on July 30, and then Clash at the Castle on September 3, the first stadium show in the UK for 30 years.

WWE began hype for Money in the Bank at WrestleMania Backlash, airing an ad featuring Cody Rhodes in Allegiant Stadium from which the show will air live. Harmless enough, except one line in the ad has had people talking ever since. Rhodes states the winners of this year’s Money in the Bank ladder matches will book spots in WrestleMania main events.

That’s very different from the title shots holding a contract usually guarantees. Some believed it to simply be a slip up that somehow managed to fall through a number of cracks. However, that same ad aired unedited on Raw the following night, and then again during NXT on Tuesday. There has still been no clarification as to whether Money in the Bank winners now earn something different, and apparently those within WWE are just as confused.

According to a recent edition of Wrestling Observer Radio, no one backstage knows what exactly is going on regarding this year’s Money in the Bank. That includes people who would usually in the know when it comes to that sort of thing. There was also no confirmation offered up by WWE, so for now, what exactly this year’s Money in the Bank winners will get remains a mystery.

It could be argued that Money in the Bank was in need of a shake up after a few of its most recent winners, and their subsequent cash-ins, haven’t felt quite as impactful. Having them hold the briefcase until WrestleMania with no threat of them cashing in before then though, that doesn’t feel like the solution. If WWE does follow through with this idea, it does also raise the question of what will next year’s Royal Rumble winners get if those main event slots have already been taken?

UPDATE

The ad with Rhodes led to a lot of speculation, with many people assuming this was a mistake. The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that many people within WWE were also under the belief that this year’s MITB stipulations would be the same as they have been in previous years.

It was said by some within WWE that the wording on the ad was a mistake that wasn’t caught when it aired at WrestleMania Backlash, but then WWE aired the same commercial on Monday and Tuesday.

One WWE source says McMahon has plans already in place for the top matches at WrestleMania 39, and that these plans do not include Money In the Bank winners in the top title matches. It’s still interesting that the commercial aired three times without an edit.

Heyman watches from the apron as he was bringing the WWE Universal Title belt in when Rollins snapped on Edge. Rollins and Reigns meet in the middle of the ring now. They have words as Rollins rants about how he should’ve been in the match. Edge attacks from the side and sends Rollins to the floor. Edge unloads on Rollins at ringside, then takes the brawl to the crowd. They fight through the fans and to the stage as it looks like Rollins is running away. The camera focuses back on Reigns in the ring as music starts back up. Heyman hands Reigns the title and he holds it on his shoulder. Heyman then hands Reigns a mic.

Fans boo as Reigns takes the mic in the middle of the ring. Reigns says now the whole world can acknowledge him. The music interrupts and out comes John Cena to a major pop. Cena poses on the stage as the crowd erupts. Reigns looks on as Cena rushes the ring. Cena meets Reigns in the middle of the ring and they face off. Possible Spoiler On Becky Lynch’s WWE Return

Becky Lynch is reportedly scheduled to be at the WWE Money In the Bank pay-per-view.

There is no word on if Lynch will make her return at the pay-per-view, but PWInsider reports that as of this morning she is scheduled to be in attendance at Money In the Bank.

Lynch was working out in the ring with Indi Hartwell at the WWE Performance Center a few weeks back, as part of the process of getting cleared for her return to action.

Lynch gave birth to her first daughter, with Seth Rollins, back in December. She has been out of action since WrestleMania 36, where she retained the RAW Women’s Title over Shayna Baszler. She then relinquished that title to Asuka a few weeks later, announcing her pregnancy.

It’s believed that WWE is saving some of their bigger returns for when they return to the road later this week, beginning with Friday’s SmackDown on FOX from Houston. Money In the Bank will take place from the Dickies Arena in Fort Worth.

Possible Spoiler On Sonya Deville’s WWE Ring Return

Sonya Deville may make her ring return during the Women’s Money In the Bank Ladder Match at Sunday’s pay-per-view.

It was first reported back in mid-June back that Deville was training for her return to the ring. Now Fightful Select reports that there has been a significant push to have Deville involved in Sunday’s Money In the Bank Ladder Match, and at one point Deville was penciled in for the match.

WWE sources expect Deville to return to the ring soon as she has been training for that return for a few months now. People within WWE have had “glowing reviews” of Deville, the handling of her past year, and the way she’s worked her new role.

WWE reportedly wanted Deville back in the ring by WrestleMania 37 season earlier this year, but officials kept delaying the return to action for some reason.

Regarding Deville possibly working Money In the Bank, there is just one spot left for the women’s MITB Ladder Match after Deville announced WWE Women’s Tag Team Champion Natalya this morning. Deville has announced all SmackDown participants so far, including Liv Morgan and Zelina Vega. The four RAW competitors are Asuka, Naomi, Nikki A.S.H. and Alexa Bliss.

Deville has been working a main roster authority figure role since January of this year, returning after taking some time off in the fall of 2020. Deville has not wrestled since losing the No DQ Loser Leaves WWE match to Mandy Rose at SummerSlam 2020.
