Legendary Pro Wrestler Willis “Roger” Kirby Passes Away At 79

Cauliflower Alley Club took to Facebook to announce that Willis Kirby, better known as “Roger Kirby” in the ring, passed away at the age of 79. Kirby recently suffered a bad fall that left him with a broken hip and lead doctors to discover that he had stage four pancreatic cancer. He then developed a case of pneumonia that ultimately brought on his passing.

Kirby leaves behind a wife, Lila, their seven children, and several grandchildren. At 79, Willis spent nearly thirty of those years performing in professional wresting after his debut in 1960.

Although he had stints in the United States, Mexico, and Puerto Rico, Kirby spent most of his career wrestling throughout the various territories of the National Wrestling Alliance. In the entirety of his career, Kirby held championship gold over 35 times in NWA, including the coveted NWA World Junior Heavyweight Championship.

Kirby did have a brief experience working with WWE in 1986 but decided to give it up and retire from pro wrestling with the legacy he had created prior to that. He once told SLAM! Sports, “[I] want to be remembered as a top wrestler. I’d done everything that I wanted to do…I didn’t want to go back down the ladder.”

wRESTle in Peace, Roger (Willis) KirbyI don’t have the words to say just how broken-hearted I am at this moment. I just got a call from Roger Kirby’s wife, Lila. Roger passed away this afternoon at age 79. He fell three weeks ago and broke his hip. In the hospital, they discovered that he had stage 4 pancreatic cancer. He contracted pneumonia and died today.

Roger and I traveled together whenever he came to Tennessee. At our reunion here in 2009, he stood up in front of everyone and told them that I had always been his best friend; and that I was the only person who stayed in touch regularly in the years after we got out of the business. We talked regularly, and every time, before he hung up, he always thanked me for being his friend.

Many people come in and out of out lives during our lifetimes, but there are only a select few we can truly say we loved. For me, Roger is one those special few.

I will never forget Roger or the great times we had together on the road. God bless you, Roger. I will never forget you. Thank you for your friendship. wRESTle in Peace.

Brian Christopher Passed Away At 46

Former WWE Tag Team Champion Brian Lawler aka… Brian Christopher has passed away Sunday morning at the age of 46.

Christopher is the son of WWE Hall of Famer Jerry “The King” Lawler.

Competing in the WWE as Brian Christopher, Lawler popularized himself in the Light Heavyweight Division as “Too Sexy” Brian Christopher after being a staple for the USWA promotion, following the footsteps of his father Jerry Lawler. Christopher ditched his cocky character before donning a hip-hop style persona as Grandmaster Sexay. Christopher started teaming with Scott Taylor as Too Much, and the change in character also gave them a new team name, Too Cool. The success of the team led them to a reign as WWE Tag Team Champions in 2000.

Since his release in 2001, Christopher has mostly competed for independent promotions, but made a short appearance with Taylor (Scotty 2 Hotty) in 2014 in an attempt to win the NXT Tag Team Championships.

Christopher was hospitalized after hanging himself in jail Saturday night, and he was not expected to recover.

F4WOnline reported that Christopher was pronounced brain dead earlier Sunday morning and put on life support for a period of time. The decision was then made to pull him off life support and he officially passed away around 4:40pm ET, according to PWInsider and Brian’s brother, Kevin Lawler.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation announced at the request of Mark Davidson, the 25th District Attorney General, they have an ongoing investigation into the events surrounding the death of Brian Christopher. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation also released a statement earlier today.

“Corrections officers administered CPR until paramedics arrived. Lawler was transported to Regional One Medical Center in Memphis where he died Sunday afternoon.”

Our condolences, hearts and prayers go out to the Lawler family.

WWE remembered Christopher with the following announcement on their website:

“WWE is saddened to learn that Brian Christopher Lawler, who is best known in WWE as Too Cool’s Grandmaster Sexay, has passed away. Lawler, who is the son of WWE Hall of Famer Jerry “The King” Lawler, competed during the height of the Attitude Era. WWE extends its condolences to Lawler’s family, friends and fans.”

Brickhouse Brown Passes Away At 57

F4Wonline is reporting Brickhouse Brown has passed away Sunday morning at the age of 57 after his battle with cancer.

According to the report, nine days ago Brown flatlined on July 20 and was pronounced dead by the hospice nurse. Family and friends were notified, but while Brown’s Mother, Victoria Timmins, slept next to him she heard Brown say, “Mom, I’m hungry” and continued speaking with her. The coroner was traveling to take the body at that time. The news of his passing was initially reported by close friend of the family and President of the Cauliflower Alley Club, Brian Blair.

Earlier this year, the Cauliflower Alley Club honored Brown with a Courage Award, which you can see in the video above.

Debuting in 1982 in Texas, Brown worked for multiple promotions in the 80s and 90s including AWA, USWA, and the CWA where he would feud with Terry Funk, Scott Steiner, Jerry “The King” Lawler, and others. Brown reintroduced himself to a new generation of wrestling fans through shoot interviews about his time in pro wrestling.

Our condolences to the family and friends of Brickhouse Brown.

Reports Of Brickhouse Brown’s Passing Were Incorrect

As noted, former WWE Superstar and current President of the Cauliflower Alley Club, B. Brian Blair, originally reported that Brickhouse Brown had passed away from his battle with cancer.

Blair noted on Twitter that he was informed that Brown was indeed still alive and would provide more details on his Facebook page.

Here is Blair’s statement from his Facebook:

“Hello my friends!Brick was dead but n’w he’s alive! Let me explain:

Got a call from Reggie B. Fine (one of Brick’s best friends) yesterday morning when he told me that Brick’s Biological Mother, Victoria Timmons, called him in tears and said “We just lost Fredrick” (Fredrick Seawright is Brick’s real name), then she asked Reggie to call me, KoKo B Ware and a couple others…about an hour later Ms. Timmons called me to say that she appreciated everything that Ya’ll (being the CAC) did for Brick and was crying…neither on of us could speak very much so we ended the call, both very upset.

I get a call last night from Victoria (Ms. Timmons) and she said that Brick was alive…I said WHAT? She then told me that when Brick’s eye’s were rolled back in his head with his mouth open and was lifeless…the Preacher came in (Hospice facility) and that they prayed…and she refused to leave until the Coroner got there and was done…about 30 minutes later she was sitting next to him with her eyes closed…exhausted after being up most of the past three days…and all of the sudden she heard “Mama, I’m Hungry”…her and the Hospice lady could not believe it and they hurried up and got him some chipped ice, as he had not eaten for almost 3 days…they wound up giving him some liquid food…she said that was the most he had eaten in almost two weeks at one time, although it took about 30 minutes for him to eat and be full…She said it is a “Miracle from God” and I believe her.

Got a call from Reggie B. fine early this morning to tell me the same story…this is amazing and as accurate as the words that I just said…don’t know what will happen from here as it is in God’s hands, but it’s nothing short of a miracle, as far as I am concerned…so happy that I may be able to see him this Wednesday on the way to Iowa…changing my ticket back again to go through Jackson, MS.

On my way to meet some people, but will see your responses when I get back tonight.

Thank you all and God Bless,

Brian”
