WWE Stars Pay Tribute To Former TNA Star Amazing Red After His Retirement

WWE Women’s Tag Team Champion Sasha Banks took to Twitter to praise former TNA X Division Champion The Amazing Red, who runs the House of Glory wrestling promotion and school in New York City. Banks posted the tribute because Red has announced his retirement from the ring.

As seen below, Ali also took to Twitter to post a tribute to Red. Ali’s video features tributes to Red from Seth Rollins, Banks, Bayley, AJ Styles, Lince Dorado, Kevin Owens, Ricochet, Brian Kendrick, Rey Mysterio and WWE producer Sonjay Dutt.

Ali wrote, “@AmazingRed1 was such a huge influence on me. But I’m definitely not the only one who was influenced by him. He should know that.”

You can see the tribute video below, along with Red’s announcement video.

Red noted that he originally planned to “leave wrestling” after the WWE Cruiserweight Classic in 2016. In what could have led to his big break, Red was originally scheduled to work the tournament but an ankle injury kept him out of it. He said he felt like he has done everything he was supposed to do through HOG, and he’s cancelling all the shows he had planned for WrestleMania 35 Week in New York City. Red said he will continue to teach at HOG, and he will continue to support the business. “Throughout all my life, I have done things for everybody else, I’ve never done things for myself,” Red said.

He later added, “Be happy for me, don’t be upset. The reason why I made this video was for myself, because once I know I put this out there, there’s no turning back. This is me looking out for me. So, be happy about that.”

Kevin Owens is expected to return to action in late February or early March after undergoing double knee surgery this past Tuesday, according to Dave Meltzer on the latest edition of Wrestling Observer Radio. Owens was written off of WWE television on RAW on October 8th after an attack by Bobby Lashley.

Meltzer noted that the damage in Owens’ left knee was worse than expected. While it was serious, he didn’t have full reconstructive surgery on either knee.

Owens posted the photo below following the surgery, writing that “They had a 2 for 1 sale going at the surgery store!”

As noted, WWE shot an angle on Raw with Bobby Lashley turning heel and injuring both of Owens’ knees to write him off of TV. While there was a report from POST Wrestling that the hope is that the knee surgery will be a minor procedure, Dave Meltzer noted in The Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the full damage won’t be known until his knee is opened up. While it’s hopeful that Owens just needed his knee to be cleaned out, it is possible that he would need major surgery.

Earlier today, Owens revealed on his Twitter that he ended up getting double knee surgery. No word yet on how serious the damage was or how long he’ll be expected to be out of the ring, although the initial timetable was four to eight months, depending on the seriousness of the procedure.

WWE announced after RAW that Kevin Owens suffered injuries to both knees during the heel turn attack from Bobby Lashley.

John Pollock reports that the injury angle was done on RAW to explain Owens’ needing legitimate time off for knee surgery.

The hope is that the knee surgery is a minor procedure but they won’t know the severity of the injury until the knee is assessed. There’s a possibility that the injury is serious and then Owens would need more time to recover.

WWE is receiving some mainstream media attention today for last night’s RAW segment in Seattle with Kevin Owens and Elias. Newsweek, Forbes, ESPN and other sports outlets have covered the segment.

After Elias took a shot at Seattle not having an NBA team, the crowd began to boo them and the heat picked up and carried through the rest of the segment. It was one of the most heated segments on the show in recent memory, with many comparing it to the heat Roman Reigns received on RAW the night after defeating The Undertaker at WrestleMania 33. The booing continued for over 6 minutes. You can see video from the segment above.

The city of Seattle has been without an NBA team since the Seattle Supersonics were moved to Oklahoma City in 2008, re-named as the Oklahoma City Thunder. The Sonics had been in Seattle since 1967.
