Big News On John Cena’s Planned WWE WrestleMania 35 Match, Why It May Not Happen

Image result for John Cena returned to RAW and SmackDown live 2019

WWE has had plans to do Lars Sullivan vs. John Cena at WrestleMania 35, according to The Wrestling Observer Newsletter. However, that match may not happen due to a situation that came up this week.

Sullivan was scheduled to make his main roster debut at the January 7 RAW from Orlando, likely a dark match. Sullivan either didn’t show up to the arena or did show up, and left the building, apparently due to an anxiety attack.

WWE officials talked with Sullivan and smoothed things over, and everything was fine. Sullivan was then supposed to work a dark match the next night at SmackDown in Jacksonville but he didn’t show up, and apparently flew back home to Colorado. No other details on his status and the match with Cena are known at this time.

Lars had been scheduled for a “monster push” on WWE’s main roster. You could assume that Lars would have won his first big match, against Cena at WrestleMania, but a source noted to The Observer that the win could be premature. While the match was on the books for WrestleMania, officials had not discussed the finish.

It’s believed that the Cena vs. Sullivan feud would have kicked off at the Royal Rumble pay-per-view later this month. We should know more on if the match will happen then.

John Cena To Receive 2018 Sports Illustrated Muhammad Ali Legacy Award, Cena Comments

Sports Illustrated has announced that John Cena will receive the 2018 SI Muhammad Ali Legacy Award for his leadership as a philanthropist.

Cena, who has granted more than 600 Make-A-Wish wishes, also advocates for breast cancer awareness and early detection.

“I am truly thrilled to receive Sports Illustrated’s Muhammad Ali Legacy Award,” Cena said. “Ali’s commitment to helping others, his dedication to the sport and his generous spirit are incomparable and he was a role model to us all. To be linked with him in any way is an honor that means so much to me.”

SI Executive Editor Stephen Cannella, who selected Cena for the honor along with other SI editors, praised Cena for his commitment to philanthropy.

“From his unparalleled work with the Make-A-Wish Foundation to his support for a wide range of causes ranging from activism for military families to cancer research, John has made personal outreach and generosity of time and spirit his calling cards,” said Cannella. “He might just be the most charitable person in sports, and his dedication to philanthropy richly reflects the spirit of the Ali Legacy Award.”

The award was created in 2008 and renamed after Ali in 2015. Bill Russell, Colin Kaepernick, Jack Nicklaus, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Jim Brown and Earvin “Magic” Johnson have received the award in the past. The presentation will take place at SI’s Sportsperson of the Year event on December 11 at the Beverly Hills Hilton in Los Angeles.

John Cena’s Crown Jewel Replacement Confirmed During Raw

Image result for John Cena’s Crown Jewel Replacement Confirmed During Raw

It’s official! John Cena will not be participating at WWE Crown Jewel in Saudi Arabia and his replacement was confirmed this week during RAW.

As we previously reported, Cena allegedly refused to participate due to controversy surrounding the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi. Up until this point, however, we had only been able to confirm with sources that Daniel Bryan had also requested to be left out of Friday’s event.

That was until a segment on Monday Night Raw when acting GM Baron Corbin decided to give Bobby Lashley a spot in the tournament. When asked who he was replacing, Corbin’s response was simply: “You are replacing someone who didn’t qualify … John Cena.”

WWE has still not addressed Daniel’s request to be left out of the event and, at time of this posting, are still openly advertising Bryan vs AJ Styles for the WWE Championship. Seems safe to assume this will most likely be addressed in some way tomorrow on SmackDown Live.

Backstage Updates On Daniel Bryan And John Cena Not Working WWE Crown Jewel, Possible Replacement

daniel bryan john cena crown jewel wwe statement

It appears as if nothing has changed regarding John Cena skipping Crown Jewel in Saudi Arabia this Friday, and WWE may confirm his status on tonight’s RAW, according to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio. Meltzer noted that some people in creative and elsewhere in the company are not aware of what is actually happening with Cena, but we should have an answer after tonight’s RAW.

In a related noted, the @WrestleVotes Twitter account, which has broken several stories in the past, is reporting that Bobby Lashley will be replacing Cena at the event. We recently reported on how Lashley is dealing with a shoulder injury that’s causing him a lot of pain but it’s believed he will continue working through it for as long as he can. WWE officials told creative to start looking for Cena’s World Cup replacement two weeks ago after he informed officials he would not be making the trip.

As reported earlier, WWE will be announcing the brackets for the World Cup tournament on tonight’s RAW and tomorrow’s SmackDown.

In regards to reports of Daniel Bryan skipping the show as well, Meltzer noted that the rumor is that no announcement will be made on Bryan not working the event. It’s possible they do an angle on the day of the show or at this week’s SmackDown to explain why Bryan isn’t working the WWE Title match with champion AJ Styles. Bryan’s status for Crown Jewel is still very much up in the air, but word is that his role won’t be addressed until closer to the show regardless.

WWE Issues Statement On Daniel Bryan/John Cena Reportedly Refusing Crown Jewel Appearances

daniel bryan john cena crown jewel wwe statement

But it seems like John Cena and Daniel Bryan’s status is an even bigger question mark. After all, there were reports that WWE Creative was told Cena wasn’t doing the show and we can only assume that Bryan — given his many moral convictions doesn’t want to go either.

John Cena and Daniel Bryan gave for refusing to work the Crown Jewel event —- Daniel Bryan has a huge moral conviction to the idea and also has a public profile, but nowhere near to Cena’s. Since John Cena is a huge movie star already and slated to possibly become one of the biggest box office draws next to The Rock, his association with the country might be ill-timed.

Now Pro Wrestling Sheet reports that their sources have confirmed that Daniel Bryan has refused to go to the event and WWE has issued a statement saying:

“As always, we maintain an open line of communication with our performers and will address each situation accordingly.”

Bryan Alvarez discussed this on Wrestling Observer Live where he discussed the idea of these two huge (and still advertised) Superstars saying that they’re not headed to Riyadh Saudi Arabia.

“Now, Monday and Tuesday the feeling was that the show was in great jeopardy of not taking place in Saudi Arabia. It’s possible that they said, “We’re not doing the show in Saudi Arabia” and the company said, ‘It’s probably not taking place in Saudi Arabia so let’s keep the matches’ and that’s what they did.”

“Now it seems they’re absolutely going to Saudi Arabia so on Monday and Tuesday we’ll find out if there’s anything from that story. It’s been days and WWE hasn’t said anything about that story. But on Monday and Tuesday if they shoot angles taking them off the show, then you’ll know why.”

Alvarez also said that if Cena and Bryan end up going to Saudi Arabia then there is nothing to the story. Then again, it could still be true but WWE was willing to pull a bigger money truck (that’s a truck full of money) up to their homes.

Only time will tell what happens next, but it seems like we’re in the middle of another wait and see kind of situation. But for sure — unless something else happens like Vince McMahon gets a call from President Trump telling him to cancel the Crown Jewel event or move it (which isn’t likely) we’ll still see Crown Jewel take place in Saudi Arabia.

News On John Cena & Daniel Bryan Refusing To Go To Saudi Arabia For WWE Crown Jewel, Event In Jeopardy

Image result for John Cena Crown Jewel

It was reported on Monday that John Cena and Daniel Bryan are refusing to work the WWE Crown Jewel event in Saudi Arabia on November 2nd by Barstool Sports’ Robbie Fox. Cena is one of the eight Superstars to compete in the World Cup tournament, while Bryan is scheduled to face AJ Styles for the WWE Championship.

In an update to those reports, Dave Meltzer reported on the most recent edition of Wrestling Observer Radio that while he hasn’t heard anything about Bryan, the WWE creative team was told on Monday afternoon that Cena wouldn’t be taking part in the tournament and needed to be replaced. It’s not known if something had changed since then or if they feel that Cena will change his mind if the location is changed, but Cena was once again advertised to compete in the World Cup tournament on RAW later that night.

Meltzer also noted that the Saudi Arabia event is in jeopardy, and said that as things stand, it is a lot less likely to happen than it was last week. Tickets for the show were scheduled to go on sale last Friday, but never did.

WrestleVotes, who has broken several WWE scoops in the last year or so, reports that the show is back in “wait & see” mode. Regarding Cena being advertised for the World Cup on RAW last night, WWE may have kept Cena in the promos because officials want him to reconsider his decision or because Cena would end up being a part of the event if they decide to move locations. You can see their tweets below.

We will keep you updated on any developments regarding the status of WWE Crown Jewel.

John Cena Calls Out Complacency In WWE Locker Room, Says WM34 Match Should Be An Example

john cena undertaker complacency wwe locker room wrestlemania 34 interview

John Cena says his performance at WrestleMania 34 should serve as a message to the WWE locker room: “be happy with any sort of role, even if it is getting your tail kicked in.”

“That is a message to any performer who is complaining about their spot or that, creatively, they have nothing going for them,” Cena said in an interview with Sports Illustrated. “I’ve been first, I’ve been in the middle, I’ve been last. I just want to go out there and do something.”

Cena admitted he didn’t do well in the match — but called what happened at Wrestlemania 34 the ideal build-up to befit an iconic character in The Undertaker.

“My ‘WrestleMania Moment’ was to spend the time in the crowd and not do well in a very short performance, but I loved it because it got the job done. The focus was not me, the focus was someone else,” Cena told SI. “Often times, we look at things so selfishly, asking, ‘What’s in it for me?’ Well, what was in it for me was the chance to reintroduce a WWE icon.”

John said he pushed WWE management to allow him to sit in the crowd for longer than 10 minutes. The 16-time champ wanted to be fully committed. That’s why he spent five hours in the crowd chatting it up and snapping selfies with fans.

“I had to stretch the suspension of disbelief to its breaking point to do it, but it was awesome.”

John Cena And Nikki Bella Said To Be ‘Basically Back Together’

People.com reports that John Cena and Nikki Bella are officially on the road to reconciliation, just over one month after they announced their breakup.

A source told People that “they’re basically back together.”

“They both got a wake-up call once they canceled the wedding, and they both realized they could fix what was broken,” the source told People.

Cena and Nikki admitted in media interviews that they have had some communication but People says they never stopped talking.

“They never stopped talking,” the source told People. “Other than the actual wedding weekend, when they took some space, they have been talking.”

Cena made it clear on NBC’s “Today” show that he wanted to have a family with Nikki and still wanted to marry her. It appears that was what Nikki wanted to hear.

“He has poured his heart out to her, and she was more than ready to take him back once she heard what she needed to hear,” the People source added. “He’s been saying and doing all the right things.”

As seen below, TMZ spotted the couple in San Diego this past weekend, their first appearance together since the split.
