Memphis Grizzlies of the NBA hosted a wrestling night last weekend fro their game against the Oklahoma City Thunder. WWE Hall of Famers Jerry “The King” Lawler and Ric Flair made a appearance. Replica title belts were given to the first 3,000 fans. Above is a video of Lawler wrestling a local wrestler, Maverick at the game on a balcony.
Jerry Lawler will be wrestling WWE prospect Kevin Steen at a Northeast Wrestling event on August 3rd. Both men cut a promo for their match. Lawler’s is above & Steen’s is below.
Jerry Lawler will have his first singles match since having a heart attack on September 13th in Tunica, Mississippi against one of his biggest rivals 63 year old Austin Idol.

How great it is to see Jerry “The King” Lawler at home and talking about the heart attack he suffered less than two weeks ago. Here’s Jerry in his own words.
We continue to give praise to God for the way that Jerry “The King” Lawler has progressed since his heart attack one 
week ago live on the Raw telecast. News is that he will be going home to Memphis from the hospital in Montreal later this week. His sense of humor is back, and as is normally the case, Michael Cole is the butt of many of his jokes.
Special mention were made tonight at the beginning of the Night of Champions to the doctor and EMT’s for saving Lawler’s life. JBL, who filled in for The King, praised Michael Cole for his actions on getting the attention of the doctor so quickly.
Keep praying, but it looks like “The King”, with some divine intervention, is going to make it through this ordeal!
Jerry Lawler‘s girlfriend, Lauryn Laine McBride, posted the following on her Facebook account regarding Lawler’s condition:
Thanks everyone for your thoughts and prayers. It has been confirmed that Jerry did have a heart attack…he is in stable condition and breathing on his own & heart is stable. I’m getting on the first flight out of here to be with him & will keep everyone posted. He is a strong man and we will get him back at his best as soon as I can get him home! I love you so so much baby!

That was my original thought and comment last night and it’s still my thought today, and I’ve added the “Punk is a coward” from the headline to my original thought. I find it interesting that just as I was posting that tweet on our@DTRTWrestling twitter account, I got the following text from my partner, Trevor.
Think you should post something tomorrow talking about punks disrespect for a legend
I get that Punk is trying to make us all believe that he is a heel, and again to quote Trevor in a separate text “CM Punk is officially heel”.
Yep, I could tell that Punk was having a difficult time with the heel turn, but he’s all in now. Regardless of whether he was following orders or came up with it on his own, Punk “used” a retired legend and member of the WWE Hall of Fame to get his change over.
He had his chance to face John Cena, face-to-face, man-to-man -but no, he chose to be a coward.
Punk had just been schooled by Cena, and Punk took it out on “The King”.

I thought Lawler went above what was needed when he apologized to Punk for saying that Punk had turned his back on the WWE Universe. When Lawler wouldn’t, and shouldn’t have, said that Punk was the best in the world – well you can see what happened by clicking here.
I grew up watching Jerry “The King” Lawler or “Kingfish” as Jimmy “The Boogie Woogie Man” Valiant used to call him. He has been a great Ambassador for Professional Wrestling, both inside and outside of the ring. His work at the announce table has helped many people, including CM Punk, get their character over. Lawler literally carried Punk the night after Punk turn against the WWE Universe. As I said in the tweet at the very beginning, Punk couldn’t carry Lawler’s jock strap in Lawler’s prime, and obviously even now on the mic.
My late father, who started me watching Lawler, taught me most everything I know about the word “respect”. He taught me exactly what Tyson Kidd @KiddWWE said in this tweet:

CM Punk spoke out during the beginning of Raw last night about his actions last week. Comments included going after Jerry The King Lawler for his closing comments at the end of Raw’s 1000th episode. Lawler said “CM Punk has turned his back on the WWE Universe”.
Since last Monday CM Punk has had heated comments said about him which in a very real way forced him to avoid his twitter account for the entire week.

Wow, is about the only way I know how to open this with. Wow, to what happened, Wow, to it being 30 years ago and finally Wow, to the fact that after all these years and as much wrestling as I have watched and read about – I still don’t know if this was a work or not.
I will watch things and I will think – this has to be a story line no doubt about it. Then I will watch more and I think man there is legit hatred and realness to this crazy stuff. Maybe it’s the real deal.
One thing we are sure of, we will not get any more of the story from Andy Kaufman, since he died a couple of years later in 1984. You can look up on any web browser and find lots of stories about whether it was real or fake, but if you are like me, you will just enjoy some of the very first Sports Entertainment and realize what a genius Lawler has been for all these year.
